Bloomberg Beware: 10,000+ Occupy Wall Street Protesters Have Stormed Foley Square
more from Jason Easley and Sarah Jones
Occupy Wall Street has responded to their eviction from Zuccotti Park with a day of action that is culminating in 10,000+ protesters filling up Foley Square.
With Zuccoti Park too full to contain the Occupiers, they started a march. Chanting “Our streets!” and “Who took the money? Wall Street! And who’s gonna pay? Wall Street!”, the OWS occupiers are walking to the bridge right now. Reports say that the police have blocked the bridge.
Earlier, The Gothamist reported,
Foley Square is extremely packed with protesters at the moment, some initial guesstimates put the crowd somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 to 10,000. It’s so crowded that it’s difficult to move, and a few protesters have been arrested—one was bleeding from the mouth. There are reports that an NYPD officer injured his ankle; it’s unclear what caused the injury. The police are not letting protesters into Foley Square from most sides, and arresting those who spill off the sidewalks across the street from the square. The Other 99 is operating a live video stream from the rally.
Occupy Wall Street officially puts the crowd at 10,000 + with thousands more protesters on the way, “Now, massive crowds are marching down Broadway toward Foley Square to join another large contingent of labor unions and fellow Occupiers. Despite a massive police presence and helicopters circling overhead, protestors are taking Foley Square. Thousands more are still en route, as marches continue to converge on Foley Square and more supporters pour from the subways.”
The more the police and authorities try to control the protesters in ways that deny them their rights to free speech, in particular protected political dissent, the more they show us just how much we should be in the streets.
We knew things were bad, but did we know they were this bad?
When countries that aren’t supposedly democracies are able to protest without being arrested and beaten and the media is allowed to cover the protests, what does that say about America?
The good news is that Bloomberg’s eviction “victory” appears to have been short lived. Contrary to what Fox News is trying to tell you, this movement is not only alive and well, but with each oppressive action taken by Mayor Bloomberg and the NYPD, Occupy Wall Street is growing stronger.
Patriots across this country need to assess the current state of freedom in this country and stand firm against the corporate takeover of our government.

Stewart’s and Colbert’s “Rally to Restore Sanity” was just the first peek at the massive anger present in the “silent majority” of this country. In my opinion, their rally only scratched the surface of that anger because the goals of the organizers were not congruent with the true goals (and political discontent) of the attendees.
The Occupy Wall Street movement has taken up where Stewart’s/ Colbert’s superficial rally left off.
The outrage and anger I have felt for the last several years—from the outlandish astroturfed Tea Party to the GOP nihilistic obstructionism to the incivility of political rhetoric to the mind-boggling economic inequality to the corporate takeover of our government–are FINALLY being expressed by the OWS protests.
It’s about effing time. And it isn’t going to go away…because, unlike the Tea Party, this is what a real grassroots movement looks like.

For good coverage, get the Al Jazeera newscasts if you can; if you can’t, see their website. On the whole, their journalism is the nearest I have seen in recent years to what journalism is supposed to be.
As for what journalism isn’t supposed to be, Fox News is within a hair of promoting murder. They have published the name, address, and picture of the judge who previously ruled in the protesters’ favor. Meanwhile, the commenters on their site have published a number of posts about the shooter who fired on the White House, the gist of which is that it’s too bad he missed the President, but what do you expect of a dumb sp*ck. The said shooter himself was inspired by the kind of rhetoric constantly barfed by Fox News. I note, too, that worldwide, crackdowns on protesters seem curiously co- ordinated. If Fox and like outlets were found to be co-ordinating its own incitement of stochastic terrorism with it… Ah, peace, conspiracy theory!

You say that “Fox News is within a hair of promoting murder.” You may not be too far off. As I said before I watch MSNBC, a little CNN and some Fox. Newshounds just does not portray it accurately for me, I have to see the real thing. Anyhow, I used to be able to endure Hannity, O’Reilly, Megan Kelly etc., but it has gotten so bad that I simply cannot watch their entire hours. They are bordering on insanity. The reason I do watch at least some of it is that I sense the immense danger. They are cruel liers, hateful and out for blood.
In a Democracy they have a right to speak but the opposition should also have the right to point out their lies. If OWS all over the USA and the globe will eventually succeed, Fox may die a natural death. Until that happens watch out, they want to see blood and guts and they love WAR, it makes them and their cronies lots of money.

one might say they are closer than a hair away… remember “Tiller the killer” promoted by Bill O. before Dr Tiller was assassinated?.. remember that crazy guy enroute to the Tides foundation a while back.. How about the guy that shot up the Unitarian church, or the fellow that killed the gaurd at the halocaust museum… all outliers influenced by fox..
on the observation of Muroch’s empire, in a “fair world” they would be busted under rico, for the criminal enterprise they indeed are.. perhaps after the Brits are done with the empire justice will find a way here..

That’s cool. I myself have some trouble typing on a 2×2 1/2″ screen, even though I have the kind of near vision that would enable me to put horseshoes on a horsefly without a jeweller’s loupe.
Meanwhile, I think your idea is a good one… Or, as they say in South Florida, “¡Ay! ¡Que RICO!”

You have a stronger stomach than I, to actually make yourself watch this stuff. In fact, I don’t have cable, and Channel 35 comes in badly (I excuse myself). I have scooped up poor animals off the road and buried them, gone to forensic evidence seminars, and watched footage of massacres in Libya and Syria with considerable stoicism, but Fox…no. You’re a better man than I am, Ganga-din.

Protest of this intensity, physically, make me cry (I’ve done so in the past during protest against the war(s); I’ve sat on the curb and wept)
…cry for the sheer exhilaration of watching realism portrayed by humans who want no more oppression, cry for the pain of giving “birth” to this nation all over again, cry for the suffering and humility for all those who have been, as the old C&W song goes,…”lied to, cheated on, beaten down and treated like dirt…”
Once again, my empathy level is over-whelmed…but, as soon as I get past this, I’m ready to play “MC5″*(I date myself) and get “creative”!
(*MC5, you say? It’s “code”, yung’uns…ask your grandpa’n'grandma…)
