Obama: Obama Nation is Unfit for Publication

ImageThe Obama campaign has come out with a preemptive strike rebuttal of the soon to be released book “Obama Nation” by Jerome Corsi.

The 41 page document calls Corsi’s allegations about Obama rehashed lies, “As you might expect from the book’s shoddy foundation, many of its claims are also completely false. The Obama’s never gave a million dollars to a Kenyan politician. Obama has no secret plan to destroy the military. Obama has regularly shared many of the facts about his family that Corsi claims he has covered up.”

The Obama camp calls Corsi a discredited fringe bigot. Here are a few of the conspiratorial beliefs of Corsi, “Of course, the lies in “The Obama Nation” almost pale in comparison to the bizarre, conspiratorial views that Jerome Corsi has advocated in his broader work. He believes that President Bush is trying to merge the United States with Mexico and Canada. He believes that there is a literally unending supply of oil beneath the ground. And in perhaps the gravest sign that his views can’t be trusted, he alleges a government cover-up of the 9/11 attacks and denies that airplanes were to blame for the towers’ collapse.”

The campaign did point out that Corsi was even disavowed by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. The document spends almost 30 pages refuting allegations that Corsi made in his book. Among the allegations are that Obama has lied about his family background, hates Israel, wants to reduce the size of the military and using use the savings on social welfare spending, Michelle Obama is a black separatist, Obama is a Muslim, and his relationships with Rezko and Rev. Wright.

All in all “Obama Nation” is sort of a greatest hits collection of half truths and lies about Barack Obama. This might have caught John Kerry off guard in 2004, but it looks like the Obama people were ready for it this time around. Their attack on Corsi is hard and personal. They are being so aggressive about this book, not because it contains the truth, but because if it gets constant mainstream media exposure is the potential to become the oft repeated lie that gets taken for the truth.

I don’t think this book is going to impact the race at all. It is so baseless and out there that the only people reading it will be those who already won’t be voting for Obama. It might have worked in 2004, but just like everything else Republican in 2008, it is a rehash that has very little repeat value. This is a different time with a different national mood. Those who want to read lies about Obama can do so on the Internet. There is no need to buy this book.
