ImageHillary Clinton released a statement that praised Obama’s victory in a long hard fought historic campaign, but she added the result was well worth the wait.

Clinton said, “Tonight, we are celebrating an historic victory for the American people. This was a long and hard fought campaign but the result was well worth the wait. Together, under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and a Democratic Congress, we will chart a better course to build a new economy and rebuild our leadership in the world. And I look forward to doing all that I can to support President Obama and Vice President Biden in the difficult work that lies ahead.

She also talked about helping the middle class, “For too long, middle class families in this country have felt invisible, struggling alone as wages stagnate, jobs disappear, and the costs of daily life climb upward. In quiet, solitary acts of citizenship, American voters gave voice to their hopes and their values, voted for change, and refused to be invisible any longer.”

Let me go on the record and say that Hillary Clinton would make a great Majority Leader in the Senate. I know that it is unlikely that the Democrats would vote out Harry Reid, but Reid has been largely ineffective and powerless in his current position. It looks like Democrats won’t reach the magic number of 60 votes tonight, so they are still going to need a few Republican votes in order to get things done. Especially on healthcare, Hillary Clinton will have a large role to play in future policy.

I believe that the Democratic primary battle made Barack Obama a better candidate. Hillary Clinton made Barack Obama a better candidate. John McCain was not able to throw anything at him that he had not already seen in the primary. She also did a great job healing the wounds left over after the primary, and brought her supporters into the Obama camp. In Pennsylvania, Clinton supporters voted for Obama by an 81%-19% margin. Part of the reason why the Democratic Party won is because they came together. I think both Clinton and Obama deserve some credit for that.
