On his radio show today, Glenn Beck launched his latest conspiracy theory that President Obama is making a big deal out of nothing when it comes to the swine flu. Beck claimed that Obama is using the swine flu to get Kathleen Sebelius confirmed as Sec. of Health and Human Services.

In a response to a caller’s paranoia about the swine flu state of emergency, Beck said, “I will tell you this there is only two ways to look at this…Our government is moving wildly fast. Unlike anything, I mean we did the research last night we went back to the AIDS epidemic all the way back looking at all the different things. They have never moved this quickly, so that could be because Barack Obama’s administration is so incredibly efficient, could be that they know that this is much worse than we think it is, or what was it Rahm Emanuel said Stu, a crisis is a terrible thing to waste.”
Here is the conspiracy theory, “Do you realize that we don’t have any of the HHS people? Out of the 19 appointments he has appointed zero. This could be move to his Health and Human Services person into the office rapidly. She is supposed to go through more confirmation hearings today I think. She could be confirmed right out of the gate because of this swine flu, so don’t look over here, look at the swine flu, look at the swine flu, and she just goes right through the gate.”
Beck ignored the fact the White House held a press briefing yesterday where they explained why they were declaring the state of emergency, As Janet Napolitano said, “The first thing I want to announce today is that the Department of Health and Human Services will declare today a public health emergency in the United States. That sounds more severe than really it is. This is standard operating procedure and allows us to free up federal, state, and local agencies and their resources for prevention and mitigation; it allows us to use medication and diagnostic tests that we might not otherwise be able to use, particularly on very young children; and it releases funds for the acquisition of additional antivirals.”
They declared the emergency so that they could release extra stocks of Tamiflu and Relenza to help prevent the spread of the virus. All states, whether they have Republican or Democratic governors are urging preparedness, and some governors such as Republican Rick Perry have already requested federal help. This latest conspiracy illustrates how seriously delusional Glenn Beck is. Maybe he wants Obama to be like the Bush administration and drag his feet, until we have a flu epidemic in the country? This is an example of why most people think that Glenn Beck is crazy.
