On Glenn Beck’s Fox News show, guest Andrew Breitbart claimed that Oprah Winfrey is behind the scenes orchestrating the Obama presidency. Breitbart said, “I think she’s been behind the scenes orchestrating this presidency.” He really said that.
Here is the video courtesy of Media Matters:
Breitbart said, “This doesn’t surprise me. Does it surprise you? This is the Oprah Winfrey presidency. She was his biggest supporter, and I think she’s been behind the scenes orchestrating this presidency as a media presidency, photo ops, giving billions of dollars of gifts away to companies like General Electric, and until the mainstream media realizes…”
I really hope Breitbart was kidding, because Glenn Beck, the crown prince of crazy conspiracy theories, treated his claims that Oprah is running the media strategy for the White House as a joke. I would have thought that the masterful handling of all media in the 2008 campaign would have proven to everyone that the Obama people know what they are doing. I can see Dick Cheney playing the role of evil puppet master, but the idea of Oprah as some sort of secret villain is hysterical.
It was also funny that Glenn Beck was trying to manufacture outrage over the White House putting out some prepackaged video about the UCONN women’s basketball team’s visit to the White House. Beck seems to be suffering from amnesia because he has forgotten all about the Bush administration’s habit of having newspaper columnists, and commentators on its payroll, not to mention all of the fake news stories they put out backing their positions on education, Social Security, climate change, and the war in Iraq. I’ll take the fluff PR of this White House over one that tried to short circuit the freedom of the press anyday.
