Today on his radio show Rush Limbaugh ranted against the fact that President Obama has made 9/11 a day of national service. Limbaugh said, “Obama is trying to take this and transform these events to advance his own political left wing agenda.” Limbaugh also claimed that community service is about tearing down the American system.

Limbaugh said, “What bothers me about this is that Obama is co-opting, Kathleen Sebelius Obama’s administration is co-opting this day and turning it into a way to further their political agenda by having people do community service for the state. There’s no outpouring of natural community service going on today for the remembrance of 9/11….Obama is trying to take this and transform these events to advance his own political leftist radical agenda, and the key words here are community service.”

Limbaugh continued, “When you hear community service, you’ve got to think ACORN. You have to think leftist radical agitators trying to tear down the American system. That’s what community service, that’s what community agitation is all about…He is trying to get people to stop thinking about themselves, to stop thinking about their communities, to stop thinking about traditional institutions in America, and is trying to get them to serve him and his agenda.
Community service is now leftist activity according to Limbaugh. All those Republicans who volunteer in their communities are actually doing Obama’s bidding. It must be noted that President Obama isn’t encouraging people to volunteer to further his agenda. He hopes that people will get more involved in their communities. Volunteerism is something that the GOP used to encourage, but it the hands of Obama it evil and leftist.
It is laughable that Limbaugh would accuse Obama of using 9/11 to advance his own agenda, when George W. Bush used the attacks to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. The Republicans used 9/11 to pass tax cuts, secretly spy on Americans, and as a reason to torture. As recently as 2008, Republicans were still trying to invoke 9/11 to win the election.
What Limbaugh can’t handle is a Democratic president marking the anniversary of the attacks. You see to people like Rush, 9/11 belongs to the Republicans. Democrats have no place on 9/11. It is their issue, and how dare Obama ask people to give something back? Republicans would never do that. George W. Bush asked people to go shopping. Asking Americans to give something back is not the Republican way.
