Angle fear mongers about Dearborn claiming it's under Sharia Law
Dearborn Mayor Launches Reality Grenade on Sharron Angle
Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly fired off a letter to Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle, saying she is “misled” about his city. O’Reilly invited Angle to visit Dearborn, where there has been a Muslim mosque for 90 years and they are nowhere near under “Sharia law” or a situation of “militant terrorism”. They mayor explained that people in his community by and large try to work together and Angle might want to visit before she slanders the city again. This is called laying down a reality check for careless, reckless fear mongers and liars.

As you might recall, this all started when Angle said:
“We’re talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn’t a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it. My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don’t know how that happened in the United States,” she said. “It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.””
Dearborn’s Mayor O’Reilly responded by launching a bit ‘o reality Angle’s way:
“This is the most absurd, inane answer I’ve ever heard. And she was led by the questioner, but should have been mature enough to say I don’t think that’s happening….The last census revealed that only thirty percent of the population in Dearborn is Arab American….Nobody is trying to control Dearborn. Muslims have been in Dearborn, there has been a mosque in Dearborn for 90 years. So the notion that there’s this new phenomenon and Muslims are taking over America is certainly not substantiated in this community.”
In his letter to Angle, O’Reilly then reiterated his offer for Angle to visit Dearborn. O’Reilly said he has not heard from Angle yet.
If Angle is qualified to run for senate (oh, I jest – there are no qualifications this year — all you have to do is say “I am you”), she should have guessed that a city with a mayor with the last name of O’Reilly has probably not been taken over by Muslims quite yet. But perhaps she fears the Irish, too. Wait till Bill-O hears about this.
Here’s hoping Angle takes O’Reilly up on his offer, but he shouldn’t hold his breath. I hear ignorance is all the rage this year.
