As the media swarms over Sarah Palin’s emails has anyone thought to ask why the personal information of those who wrote emails critical of Palin was not redacted?
Some very ugly things are going to come out of these emails and not against Sarah Palin. Frankly I’m very disturbed by her legal team’s choices in what I’m reading. Sarah Palin and her legal team spent two and half years combing these emails for pages they wanted to withhold and for redactions to protect the privacy of some people. But you want to know whose information they left in?
Any person who wrote to criticize the Governor has their email and phone number out for the Palin cult to attack. Sarah Palin once again used a seeming “attack” on her (aka, a request for transparency) as an opportunity to turn the guns of her internet vigilantes on her detractors. This is an outrageous compromising of those citizen’s privacy and safety.
Yes, they are private citizens, not public officials.
Palin doesn’t seem engaged at all in legislative process, but spends most of her emails forwarding mean and fawning emails about herself to her minions (the purpose of which Frank Bailey exposed in his book to take down detractors) or emails praising her as God’s chosen. She sent emails during the VP campaign requesting information about her own budgets and positions to such an extent that it’s easy to get the idea she had no idea what she passed. It’s also obvious that the state was not engaged in state activity during the VP campaign, but in management of Palin’s image.
I feel sorry for those media members who traipsed to Alaska thinking that they were going to get unfettered information. What we are seeing in these emails is an attempt by Palin and the people who were appointed by her and working for her in Alaska to create a narrative of revenge and the victimization of Sarah Palin.
The people who emailed Palin have all had their names, email addresses, addresses, and in some cases phone numbers made public in this email dump. This is a problem for those who sent her criticism like the email below:

Because this concerned citizen had the nerve to ask what the heck is Todd Palin doing involved in state business, she now finds all of her personal contact information exposed. This means that Palin’s Thugs for Christ Brownshirts are now free to terrorize anyone who ever sent Palin a critical email.
In order to keep the Sarah Palin victimization myth alive, Team Lou Sarah also made sure to include several vile emails such as the one below:

The emailer hopefully got a visit from law enforcement, and maybe some help with his mental health, but does he really need his address published for the entire world to see?
Sarah Palin and company have had two and half years to pour over and edit these emails, yet they chose to release personal information about the people who emailed her to the public.
Why?
The answer is that this is Palin’s way of creating a new enemies list, and putting cross hairs on her critics. We have not gone though all 24,000+ pages of emails yet, but from the initial review of thousands of pages, it is clear that there is an agenda of retribution present. Palin is providing her hapless followers with the information needed to track down and harass those who dare criticize their “Dear Leader.”
Once again, Sarah Palin shows a remarkable ability to turn a normal request (freedom of information or open records request in this case) into an opportunity for revenge on citizens whom she feels have wronged her. These emails were so heavily redacted that they tell the same story the upcoming propaganda film tells about Sarah Palin, though not even all of the Palin lawyers could put Sarah the Governor back together again. It’s clear from her emails that Sarah Palin was not governing the state of Alaska; she was a CC on emails between other people who governed for her, with very little guidance, direction or input from Sarah Palin until it came to her myth management.
For those who will argue that this wasn’t Sarah Palin’s email dump consider that the attorneys and state officials that coordinated the release of the emails were either appointed by or worked for Palin. the ADN reports:
Alaska officials tut-tut they are going to withhold 2,415 pages from the public. Why? Those communications are privileged, personal or somehow exempt from Alaska’s disclosure laws. Or so they say… But state officials say there is the right to privacy thing and the attorney-client privilege thing and the “deliberative process” thing. Apparently — and it was a shock to me — there is no public’s right to know thing.
Who made these decisions? It turns out state lawyers and folks in the governor’s office — where some, it turns out, worked for Palin but now work for Gov. Sean Parnell, who was Palin’s lieutenant governor — made the calls on those 2,415 emails. Not an impartial panel of citizens and lawyers, or folks lacking direct or indirect ties to the authors of the emails or any court. Just insiders…
All of that points to this: Alaska’s public records law is not protecting the public’s right to know a thing. It must be fixed. This lengthy, ongoing email sham is the kind of thing that corrodes the public’s trust in government.
If you don’t think that the Palins were involved in the decision making, I have a gas pipeline to nowhere to sell you. To make this decision even more apparent and glaring, one of the reasons cited for withholding over 2,300 of Palin’s emails is “Article 1, Section 22 of Alaska’s constitution: “The right of the people to privacy is recognized and shall not be infringed.”” It seems that this law is only being applied to the former governor and the chosen people whose names and personal information were redacted in the emails. Apparently in Alaska, public officials have the right to privacy but citizens do not. Since some of these email senders are no doubt from outside of Alaska, one wonders if they have a lawsuit on their hands.
Palin fans will come away from these emails enraged about the alleged media harassment (or perceived whines, if you will) and the rather horrid emails she allegedly received from time to time. If getting nasty emails makes one worthy for Office of the President or the cross, she’d better make room for the rest of us.
With this email dump, Sarah Palin shows that she hasn’t lost her taste for cross hairs.
She put a whole bunch of them on her fellow Alaskans.

I would hardly want to deprive you of your Sunday victimization game – after all, what better day to pretend Sarah is Jesus than Sunday? God is pleased, I can tell you. Remember, though, won’t you, that shooting people from planes is just heated political rhetoric, part of our American tradition, LIKE, SAY, PUTTING CROSSHAIRS ON SOMEONE, OR SAYING RELOAD, and if you call out this email sender on that language after someone gets shot, you will be guilty of a Blood Libel. Also, too, notice how you are trying to “shut up” that emailer and “take away their first amendment rights that our troops are fighting for”? Golly, gee, Jake. Take up arms! LOL. oh, it’s all fun and games, isn’t it sir? By the way, have you written Gabby Giffords family to express your outrage about Sarah Palin “talking about shooting someone”? Too bad we didn’t “lock up and execute” Sarah Palin before she actually shot someone, no? Tell me, Jake, just how does that first amendment thing work again? We execute people for saying bad things about Sarah Palin, but when she says reload and puts crosshairs on people, and some of those people are then shot, you feel sorry for her?
You know, people were shot, Jake. A little girl died. Where was your outrage then?

Sorry you feel that way, Boscoe. I’m curious –have you checked c4p lately? They were all over this release and they saw these emails long before we ever got this story out. The Palin emails are internationally trending. They went viral as soon as they were scanned. It’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle. It was too late as soon as the state released that info.
The information was publicly disclosed by the state. We used 2 documents out of many as proof of the activity. We had no ability to edit those documents. And had we not included examples, we would have been accused of making things up. If we did as you are suggesting, there would be no way to tell shine the light on this activity and those people would still be targeted. It was a tough choice but I stand by it. Any time we can redact personal info, we do.

But I admit I may be too sensitive. ;) It seems like I eventually end up saying this on EVERY blog I comment on: I’d rather be better than the shitheads I mock, not lower myself to their level.

Who are these “black leaders” to whom Engle refers? There would be no need to seek forgiveness if they didn’t keep pulling the same old $h!t. They have no idea what it’s like to live as an enslaved person or under segregation. I lived under segregation, and none of these folks have a clue of what life was like under that system, or what it institutional racism is like. What Engle and those who think the way he does doesn’t know is that the majority of blacks don’t “hate” them because we’re too busy living our own lives. When hate occupies too much of one’s time, one is incapable of accomplishing very much. It is their own consciences that are torturing and “enslaving” them in the darkest hours of the night because they know that the things they say and do conflict with the teachings of Jesus, and it’s up to them to free themselves from their hatred of blacks, Jews, gays, atheists, Buddhists, wiccans, pagans, Muslims, Hispanics, etc. Personally, I think it’s too late for many of them.

Everyone had access to the healthcare bill; it was online for all to read. No one hid it for 2.5 years. The fact that you don’t know this says more about where you get your info from than anything about the MSM. The two are not the same. One is obstructing transparency in government (Palin’s emails not offered up in a timely manner when she was running for VP) and the other was as open as you can get. It was further debated on townhalls across the country, with people like Palin screaming lies about it for a year before it was passed. The MSM covered ALL of the (orchestrated and made up based on lies- see FactCheck.org) tea party’s rage about the healthcare bill.

From this Alaskan’s perspective, we need to change the law addressing FOI here or challenge the precedent the administrations involved in this relied on as regards what could be redacted legally, in terms of time allowed for that privilege to stand.
It IS as toothless as described here :
http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Alaska_Public_Records_Act
The Court’s ruling that the Executive Branch may claim exemption from FOI for deliberative process is grounded in a rather sensible acceptance that policy might suffer if those engaged in developing it were not allowed to range far and wide in discussion and investigation .
However, it has not been challenged nor codified as regards how long these deliberative process exchanges can be shielded from public review.
When the media and individuals who requested the now gone Gov’s emails presented their requests the executive privilege precedent was certainly in effect as SP was the sitting governor.
The long delay in meeting the requests opens the question about whether that same privilege still exists today- closing in on 2 years after SP’s abrupt departure from the Gov’s office.
The emails released show us a Gov who had a lot of hope for working on oil and gas legislation but little understanding of what else the Executive branch must be doing. As time went on they show us what we saw in public, someone who became less interested in working towards really open and transparent government and more interested in personal image. Since the redacted materials are mostly in the realm of deliberative exemptions it is unwise to say we really know much about HOW she really governed, We can only see how she thought she did or could.
I think it important to note that the emails shown here are only in the email dump because SP forwarded them herself to other state employees.
The sicko one rightfully went to employees who are charged with paying attention to possible threats.
The other is very curious. Why did SP send the letter from a (rightfully) upset constituent to the Manager of the Governor’s Mansion and her own Scheduler?
As she attached no message to the forward we can only speculate. From what we saw over and over again here, I wonder about whether this was another in the long line of SP trying to find out what could be found out about the writer. It is wondering only and likely never to be answered factually.

Excellent points and I’d only add that has her gov email was checked by aides, the threats were most likely sent to her before they were forwarded by her to someone else. What we have here is what she wanted the public to know about. She used 3 other email accounts to conduct state business. We know next to nothing about her governing except that she appears to have spent most of her time managing her image. I agree re the forwards with no explanation- after talking with several people who know her and reading Bailey’s book, it’s clear that those were directives. To do what? Who knows.

2 things: 1) Martha is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet – she’s also intelligent, educated, capable, popular and easy to find. If Sarah Palin’s flying monkeys attacked Martha, the stink would go national immediately. Martha is not without courage nor resources.
2) The ugly person’s address doesn’t seem legit to me.

I noticed on another article (don’t remember where, I believe it had to do with a controversial pastor she wanted to see), that she spelled Juneau “Juno” as it is in the second email. Is that something common in Alaska, to misspell the capital’s name? I understand using “Anch” for Anchorage, it’s a shortened version, but “Juno” to me seems like a teenager’s lingo.

OR, maybe Sarah Palin was a hard working governor that acted with class in her interactions with everyone she came in contact with, including people who were extremely ugly to her. This in all likelihood will be viewed as the point that Sarah Palin began the road to the White House. The attack on her are just so over the top that it will backfire and in the end will hurt Obama because he is behind the attacks.

Are we back to that? Blaming Obama? This all started because ALASKANS wanted some facts from her, and she refused to comply with the law. Obama is sort of busy running the entire country, keeping the peace, etc. etc. He is not the least bit concerned with Sarah, which drives her crazy. She wants to be relevant, and she isn’t. She’s just a poor vindictive loser whose world is finally crashing down on her. She is being sued over “One

President Obama has nothing to do with this. Why would he care about a two-bit, educationally challenged, half-governor’s emails?
The people who are disgusted that a person this unqualified was chosen to be a VP candidate (and are horrified by the idea of someone this clueless even being CONSIDERED as a Presidential candidate) are behind these email requests, which, BTW, are a Freedom of Information issue, not an “attack.”
Maybe you ought to put down the “Sarah Palin: Perpetual Victim!” playbook and get some fresh air.

To Greg, I’m sure my response will not change your mind about SP, but I can not resist responding to your post. First off, she is not a class act. The things she has said about President Obama are detestable, she does not even have the respect to call him President. Our President has never said anything disrespectful about her or her family. That is class! Mrs Palin is not being attacked, she is being vetted and scrutinized as any candidate for public office should be. What you deem to be attacks are actually people stating their opinions–many, if not most, who feel she is not qualified to hold any high government position. These opinions are based on watching her actions, listening to her speak, and learning about her past experiences. People base their opinions on what they see, and if SP feels attacked for her actions, she has no one to blame but herself. It has been very easy to draw the conclusion from news videos and interviews on all the channels, including Fox, that Sarah is NOT qualified, does NOT know our history, laws or policies, and oft times is NOT a very nice person. While she is out being a celebrity, President Obama is busy working in DC to make things better for us all!

She is always willing to shake the hand of anyone, even her most belligerent antagonist. She is class personified, and I am sure that too upsets the liberals. How is requesting correspondence on state time supposedly doing state business from a sitting public servant payed with taxpayer dollars that is also running for VP of the United States ‘setting a trap’? The public has a right to this information.
Someone without anything to hide would have offered all of this correspondence without redaction freely without hesitation from day one if they had conducted themselves in an open and honest manner.
But judging from many of the e-mails, Palin not only used her office as governor as her personal PR apparatus (not very legal), she violated the public trust by including someone who was not elected by the people in state business.
It’s only ‘a trap’ if she did something to be trapped for and you calling it such means you know deep down she did.

Sarah Palin is smart and classy? What world do you live on? This story tells me one simple thing, Sarah Palin was only worried about one thing, her own image and how the public would perceive her. In the military we are taught that we have to redact ANY AND ALL personally identifiable information before publishing to maintain compliance with the Privacy Act of 1973. This should require a team of lawyers and it doesn’t take two years. You just print everything out and grab a marker and scan the pages. If you actually have to read it your no longer redacting, your creative editing. Sarah is an ill-educated sycophant, prime material for a reality television star but an embarrassing public official.

First, Palin had no part in the redaction of these emails. She did not even attempt to tell anyone what to put in or leave out.
Second, she had the names and addresses of these people since she received the emails. She could easily have released many of them herself and even pressed charges against some of them…but she did not.
If someone had redacted all of this information, you would claiming she was hiding something.
Third, some on here is already claiming she wrote the hate letters to herself and made up the names and addresses!

Dear falling,
Based on Palins history and in books written about her with her own emails to back up the author, we know her MO, (mode of operation), you know, what she usually did when anyone criticized her administration or her family or herself. She asked her “followers” to get it done, fix it, or “what can we do here” or “what can we get on this person” or “must be something dirty”. It’s her typical high school mean girl style.
She did right letters to and about herself, why wouldn’t anyone believe she wrote a nasty email to get sympathy.
Sorry, her own words and actions are so crazy, there is nothing anyone else has to make up.
Crazy how the new political doc film made about her has gaping holes where the issues that took her down and helped her make up her mind to QUIT, are missing! Even the name “Undefeated” is crazy. She was defeated in the last election she ran in and it doesn’t look good for her by the numbers.

The Palin crowd can’t comment without threats, and you don’t see that with the Paul people or even the Rush people. Our comments are moderated, so you can imagine what doesn’t get posted. I’ve never been threatened by any of those people’s fans. I will say that the far right fundamentalist Christians issue the worse threats (something we’ve discussed with other site owners and found to be true across the board). There’s cross over btwn them and the militias and the KKK and other white supremacy groups. Those are the Palin fans, so it makes sense – but here’s something odd – Bachmann has the evangelical crowd, but she doesn’t inspire such violent rhetoric. Not sure why (though her McCarthy demand for investigations in who’s an American and her claims that Obama had FEMA camps ready for conservatives didn’t help the sanity of her followers). Still, I’ve found Romney, Pawlenty, Bachmann even Huckabee fans to be reasonable people. I really dislike what Sarah Palin has done to our national discourse, but in dire economic times, there’s always someone like her and Glenn Beck who capitalize on misery and fear at the expense of the nation and solutions. Oh, Glenn Beck viewers- they’re after Palin but before Rush fans. Insane. Totally, literally, bat crazy.

Reply to Jenny 6/10/2011 at 9:17 and any who care’s to use common sense .Something quite a few are overlooking is the fact that being in the Public’s view and looking for attention creates questions about that person.Sarah put Herself in front of the public .She invited scrutiny .Her life became an open book and rightly so.I don’t know why anyone would consider voting for a candidate running for National office or for that matter any elected office without knowing as much as possible about that individual. When She came on the scene not much was known about her outside Alaska.I took it upon myself to research Her background and most of what I was able to learn amounted to ineptness and a contradiction to Her claims. The fact is that Sarah Palin is not who She claims to be.Her behavior certainly is not that of a Christian !Do yourself a favor think for a second about one action of Hers as a Mayor; She Built a Recreation Center on land the City of Wasilla didn’t own.Costing that town Millions and creating a deficit, it may still be unresolved. The list grows and the truth is She continues to create chaos and disruption ! One thing I’m wondering… if MY name/address/phone number/email were included in these emails and I started getting harassed by psycho Palin worshipers, I can guarantee you the first thing I’d do is look into legal action against Palin and her “legal team”.
I wonder if a class action suit could be brought on behalf of everyone whose information was compromised? Imagine if we could take away the grifter’s millions? That would be hilarious.

Man, where do you geniuses get your information?? EVERY GOVERNMENT EMAIL IS PUBLIC RECORD AND STATES CLEARLY THAT “IF YOU DON’T WANT THE INFORMATION OUT THERE DON’T GIVE IT”. Seems to me you idiots are spending a lot of time attacking someone that you think is stupid. Who is more stupid; Palin or the people wasting their time attacking her? If she is sooooo stupid, she has no chance of beating your candidate right? Why don’t you just ignore her if you think she is that stupid??

Exactly who was it that wanted the emails released in the first place??? It WASN’T Sarah Palin! And it sure doesn’t look like YOU did anything to hide the emails and the names of those complaining, now did you! The MEDIA wanted the emails and now the MEDIA is complaining that theirs and others personal information was exposed. Sarah Palin’s emails and info, however, is fair game! Where I come from we call that HYPOCRISY!!!!!!!!!

The special investigator for Alaskla wanted them to investigate Palin for troopergate. Not the media, not the libs. That all came later. All emails come on paper form.
Why do I have to google for you?
Also, Palin left in the names of her enemies so her loyal minions like you could attack those people. I bet thats the kind of president you want

Thanks, Jason and Sarah for another well-written article.
I didn’t expect to be so thoroughly entertained by the paliban attempting to circle the wagons in the comments. Hilarious! Sadly, they’re not very good at disguising the Team Sarah talking points. Poor things. It’s going to be rough for them to handle when the reality of $P finally sinks in for them.

Hey, Sarah cult – all of Sarah Palin’s emails were NOT released. I know this is tough for you, for she held back over 2300 emails and had she released any of her aides or her emails in the beginning, no one would have shot for the moon in the first place.
She tantalized them with her secrecy in a democracy. I know, that’s the liberals fault too. Sigh.

Edit: I used Google Maps to look up the address used in the “attack” email, and according to them, it doesn’t exist. I also used the US Postal Service’s zip code lookup, and according to them, the zip code 98987 doesn’t exist, either. Looks like someone wrote an attack letter and forgot to use believable information! Based on past actions, I think it’s a possibility that the writer is in the Palin camp.

Even if I never read even one of the e-mails in question, Sarah Palin’s public persona tells me all I need to know about her. She is willfully ignorant, self-absorbed, too cowardly to appear before any media not FOX Noise, divisive, and unable to admit when she is wrong. These correct assessments of Palin’s character come from her own public words and actions alone, and no amount of attemptng a positive spin from the Palin cult alters it As needy for attention as she is, she has only herself to blame for any unwanted scrutiny she is currently being subjected to. Of course, she and her cult will spin this as Poor Little Sarah being victimized by the big, bad liberal mainstream (LOL).

Since she also did not redact the names of supporters who emailed her, your argument holds not water – after all people against Pailin are the only ones who have exhibited actual violence thus far, unlike Palin supporters. It is far more dangerous these days to be exposed as a Palin supporter.

I’m afraid it’s your logic that is suffering, but if you want, I can link you right now to many stories of investigated death threats against people by Palin fans, including a senator. These are verifiable, have been investigated by police and FBI.
Your turn. And you can’t use the “Palin stalker” who had also threatened Barack Obama and John McCain – it’s just that neither of them ever got a restraining order because the FBI investigated that young man and found that he was not a threat. He lives in PA, after all.

Then and Now
An email I wrote to express my displeasure about Todd Palin having access to State administrative functions was posted along with an unverifiable constituent’s email on the.politicususa.com blog on Friday after the Palin email release. The direction of the discussion then went off the tracks.
As an Alaskan citizen, I expected that my entire correspondence was part of public record when I sent email to my government officials. There is evidence that emails from constituents which were not critical of Palin also had personal contact information included in the emails. There are people looking into this. Interestingly, mine was forwarded to the Governor’s Scheduler and the Executive Residence Manager. Other critical emails were forwarded to logical recipients for security and/or verification purposes. I would like to know why my email merited a forward to these recipients.
I have not been threatened, but have received a lot of support. I have been here a very long time and I am friends with, or family to many folks all over the state. I will not hesitate to take action if needed; including forwarding any negative contacts to the local press and blogs.
The threatening email to Palin which appeared in the same post could have been written by any friend or foe. The email was sent through the Governor’s website and the physical address was falsified. I have no doubt that this email was looked into thoroughly at the time by Palin’s security staff, but there is no reason to conjecture any further since it could have been sent by ANYONE. The email is proof of absolutely nothing as it stands.
Some media is reporting that combing through the state correspondence makes Palin appear endearing and engaged, which seems to be a big disappointment to many non Alaskans. It shouldn’t be. These emails reflect the Sarah Palin Alaskans thought they elected. I was actually a bit sad when I read Craig Medred’s article in the Alaska Dispatch which reminded me of (what we thought were) better days gone by:
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/palin-emails-show-governor-alaskans-once-knew
“The Palin of 2007 appears, in retrospect, almost the opposite of the 2011 politician who keeps secret from the press something as simple as the itinerary for her “One Nation” bus tour.”
I remember being approached by a visiting Wasillan who began to apologize for foisting their Mayor onto all of Alaska after a brief “Hello, where are you from?” exchange. I was in a hurry and did not have the time to speak with her more, forgetting about it till much later. Alaskan press was mostly translating Palin’s interviews into favorable, readable articles. I am very typical of a non partisan, doing-too-many-things-at once Alaskan. Would I make the time now after this lesson? You betcha.
It is now well known that Palin controls her image very tightly – whatever she wants it to be at the time. I recommend using this perspective to your advantage by releasing some unjustified anger toward faceless Alaskans and redirecting it into positive action. It’s time to move on.
The Next Email Batch
The entire records request has not yet been fulfilled. This batch of email ends somewhere during or at the end of Sept 2008. As an Alaskan, I am the most concerned about the months of emails not yet released which cover her return to Alaska after she lost the election to the time she abruptly self aborted her term.
When Palin returned to Alaska she was a changed person and was found by most to be combative, obstructionist and dishonest many times during the following Legislative session. She must have received thousands of emails during this period. This was the period in which her pro groups mobilized and sent a barrage of emails to the official Governor email address, and we can easily conjecture that she received lots of correspondence from people nationally and worldwide because of her new found notoriety. She most certainly received many times more than the average amount of emails from Alaskans because of everything we were finding out about.
This period is when 1) most or all of the ethics complaints were filed, 2) her attempted appointment of AG Wayne Anthony Ross was denied, 3) she blocked the Senatorial replacement for Juneau out of an obvious vendetta, 4) she lied about a meeting conflict between Legislators and a personal mission in Anchorage, 5) Alaska media and blogs were writing about her daily, along with numerous other dramas. She became hostile, suspicious and secretive. This is the time frame where our Governor and her ethics and reliability were really put to the test.
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2011/0611/Sarah-Palin-emails-Treasure-trove-or-waste-of-paper
“…as Molly Ball at Politico.com describes the woman sketched in nearly 24,000 emails released this week, “Palin comes across as neither an airhead nor a prima donna.”
“She is warm and supportive with her staff, who are loyal to her in turn,” Ball writes. “She frequently misspells in haste or phonetically … but her writing is fluent and grammatical. Nor is she a figurehead. She is active in guiding policy, a self-assured politician who knows where she stands.”
But as Ball also notes, the email archive ends in September 2008, before Palin became so polarizing. “It reflects a period before she gave up governing to become a freelance sharp-tongued partisan…”
Civility
When I heard that one of my emails to Palin was posted on a blog, I was a little concerned at first. I had no idea which of the several emails I’d written was posted. However, I knew that my content was specific, sincere and for the most part polite. No one commenting on the blog post seemed to notice that, especially in comparison with other constituent emails (and comments on the blog post itself). I am proud of myself for not falling down the rabbit hole – it’s not always easy for me but it’s always important to me.
If we are writing anonymously, are we writing from our hearts and doing the best we can to be civil about it? Or are we being jerks a lot of the time, and getting worse by the day because we don’t have to answer for what we say? Are we protecting our identities for good reason, or giving ourselves permission to be less than reasonable, maybe worse?
Speaking of courtesy, authors Jason Easley and Sarah Jones, you had my email address. Maybe you could have contacted me to let you know you were doing a blog post using my personal information? The way I found out was a little disconcerting, even if supportive. A little heads up would have been the right thing to do… especially since you seemed quite concerned about the consequences. I know that one of you does not use your real name in authoring posts, so this should be something on your mind when you write posts about others who do.
Outcome
I’m pretty sure this isn’t what many expected to hear out of this blog post. A valid question was raised in the article, but assumptions and conspiracies followed rapidly with no confirmation from anyone or anywhere that I was able to find. The need to find fault overcame the desire to get solid information.
I’m writing this to remind us all that things are not always what they seem. Don’t make assumptions – it’s counterproductive even if it’s convenient. Check your facts; be honest about the difference between conjecture and outcome. Don’t lose heart or stop working for what you desire the most in society, but don’t lose the ability to have an open mind and to adjust your thinking when needed. When all else fails, find whatever humor you can in the situation and rest up to fight the metaphorical battles another day. This is from the perspective of someone who has had their imagined fate bandied about for a couple of days by complete strangers. Maybe each of us should experience this at some time in our lives.

Here is part of my email reply to Martha for those who may be interested in what is public or private information:
Thanks for getting in touch with us. I read your comment, and you accuse unnamed people of, “This is from the perspective of someone who has had their imagined fate bandied about for a couple of days by complete strangers.” We can not control the opinions of others, but in the article itself, under the email, which the state of Alaska released not PoliticusUSA it states, “Because this concerned citizen had the nerve to ask what the heck is Todd Palin doing involved in state business, she now finds all of her personal contact information exposed. This means that Palin?s Thugs for Christ Brownshirts are now free to terrorize anyone who ever sent Palin a critical email. ”
Anyone means anyone, not just you. The point was that this action by the state of Alaska was unnecessary.
The paragraph quoted above brings up an interesting point. PoliticusUSA only used public information. There is a difference between the utilization of information that has been made public by a government agency, and exposing personal and private information. Due to your state making the emails available in such a restricted way, I was not able to remove your information from the document. Your name was deliberately left out of the article and all tags.
The fault lies with those who released your information, not this website, but I will be happy to work with you in order to address your concerns.
