FOX News is still at it, misrepresenting the news in order to provide a skewed and distorted worldview for the conservative base. On Friday night (July 22) Laura Ingraham, whom the Liberapedia correctly identifies “a Christian Conservative shrew,” made an appearance as guest host on The O’Reilly Factor, and took the opportunity to blame the terrorist attack conducted by a right-wing Christian extremist on Muslims. In her words, “two deadly terror attacks in Norway, in what appears to be the work, once again, of Muslim extremists…”
The problem is, of course, that the extremist in question is a Christian, not a Muslim. What’s more, FOX News had no reason to claim that the attacks were the work of Islamic terrorists, since as Media Matters points out,
Friday’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor was recorded, so, despite the fact that several outlets were already reporting at the time the show aired that the suspect in the attacks was not linked to any Islamist groups, Fox News viewers were left with that impression anyway.
Watch the segment below:
To make matters worse, in the words of Media Matters, she then
immediately transitioned into a segment on Park51, the planned Islamic community center near the World Trade Center, by saying, “In the meantime, in New York City, the Muslims who want to build the mosque at Ground Zero scored a huge legal victory. A Manhattan judge dismissed a lawsuit by former New York City firefighter Timothy Brown, who was trying to stop construction of the mosque. Bill O’Reilly spoke with a lawyer for the Muslim developers yesterday.”
Because of course, according to Ingraham’s logic, building a mosque will lead to similar attacks on American shores. FOX News seems to be taking the advance of FOX News employee Sarah Palin and rather than learning from the lessons of Rupert Murdoch’s egregious misdeeds, “re-loading” instead with more of the hate and vitriol for which they’re so well known.
Using that logic, and knowing that the terrorist was a right-wing Christian, we can therefore surmise that the building of any more fundamentalist churches will lead to terrorist attacks in the United States. By her own words, fundamentalist Christianity stands condemned.
FOX News admitted on July 24 that the suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, was being described by police as a “fundamentalist Christian.” Strangely, they didn’t call for a ban on church construction. And though they identified him as a “terror” suspect they did not call the attacks themselves an act of terrorism but rather said that the police were labeling them as such.
You can well imagine how different their coverage would be if Breivik’s name and complexion were Islamic.

Laura Ingrahm (I don’t really care how her name is spelled) either way if this was a pre-knowing-who-the-killer-is, Then I can understand her saying this. Norway is a HUGE supporter of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Which is why people automatically jumped to the conclusion it was a Muslim Extremist. Notice that she said 10 people were found dead on the island, that means it was early in the investigation and that police had yet to reveal that it was a Norwegian himself. By the way his attacks were not because of his religion. They were attacks on the Labor Party.
I too am one off the great Repub Baggers and I am damn proud of it! I don’t just jump the gun I read the facts from as many different news sources and examine the story. By the way if you ever met a REAL Republican in life you would probably get along with them and never even know they were Republican.
With much love

The lefts genocide? Not hardly. The left beleives in freedom of choice. At the same time, its not just people from the “left” that get abortions. Duirng the dark ages when Bush was president and he was going to attack abortion, there was a large contingent of GOP women that attacked him for taking away their right to choose. Let’s also talk about the right-wing murder of women who are not allowed to have abortions even when their lives are threatened. I don’t do football, and in recent years, not much baseball, but what Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, and Mao (and Franco… and Salazar… and Pinochet… and Mugabe… and a whole slew of tyrranasters…) were and are, is totalitarians. To wit, they couldn’t stand it if they didn’t have total control over the minds, bodies, souls, and every detail of life over everyone except themselves, whom they saw no need to control at all. People like that can invoke any ideology at all to justify themselves, including “liberty”, “democracy”, and “Christianity”. They above all like “patriotism”, though. The reality has nothing to do with what they’re invoking.

Who is killing women who choose to give birth? NO ONE.
“Attacking” is the word you used to equivocate this with the left “attacking” people who choose life. The murder of 98+ young children by a right wing Christian extremist is not the same thing as advocating for the choice and health of a woman.

@Soxfan,
I think a major difference in attacks from left wingers is that they tend to be verbal, as opposed to physical. “Attack” is too versatile a word to be used, when it is conflated with “assault”; FOXNews and the like use “attack” interchangeably when referencing liberal verbal assertiveness (and even agression) from talking heads as being equivalent to conservative physical assaults- such as shooting cops on a college campus out of a fear of the loss of gun ownership rights.
[Sidebar: the right-wing media IS the Mainstream Media, seeing as they command a larger market share than leftwing and alternative outlets. The Fairness Doctrine (and the upcoming Net Neutrality battle) so maligned by conservatives is what got Rush Limbaugh and his 'descendants' on the air in the first place.]
Consider the fact that there have been, in the USA especially, more terror acts committed by christians- as opposed to muslims. Luckily the Hutaree were stopped before they could do anything. There aren’t that many liberals talking about a Second Amendment solution to Dominionists, nor would they think it acceptable to put crosshairs on a map of abortion providers. Ignorance and buzzwords are a dangerous combination. Glenn Beck inspired a man to attack the Tides Foundation, with fatal results.
Even when keeping the fight on a verbal field, liberals might not always be perfectly behaved, but they do seem -as a group- to use evidence from science and history for their arguments, and not rely on emotional reactions that have a foundation of “it’s in the bible, so there! Plus, you’re one of them ad hominosexuals, too!”
Regardless of the person’s faith, Fundamentalism is an ideology that doesn’t allow for the existence of other modes of thought. The very reason the Puritans left England (or kicked out for being prigs) somehow bolsters the modern theocatic movement into believing that religious freedom only refers to christians, and only certain ones at that. Without that shrill refrain, Mitt Romney might not have flip-flopped on his healthcare reform to pander to voters who will discount him automatically on the basis of his mormonism.
The “no religious test” clause in the constitution guarantees the right of our muslim and atheist politicians to serve in office. So explain to me why they are being singled out for re-election on the campaign promise that Ellison will implement Sharia law? How do you explain the fact that metro detroit (where I grew up), home to the largest middle eastern population, has yet to over-run the tri-county area with guns and hijabs? The only concession is the call to prayer, which is no different than ringing the bell for church.
Any government that restricts voting for particular groups (blacks, women, college students), or reserves various privileges for an elite class (tax relief, pardons for sex crimes, dachaus) is not liberal, no matter what they claim. Soviet communism fell because the have-nots outnumbered the haves; National Socialism is not a true socialism because it only gives rights to a specific class of people. The days of the Weimar Republic are being echoed by modern Republicans and their Tea Party enforcers. “But we don’t hate jews, so equivocating us with Nazis is a bad thing! Muslims and gays and women who like sex for the orgasms are the real threat! And the President is Muslim whose mom doesn’t have legal rights even though she’s an American citizen!”
Calling abortion genocide is an ignorant point. It isn’t a systematic action against a particular demographic group. The Oslo Incident would in fact be an example of that, especially when the terrorist admires the actions of the Serbs. Breivik was hoping to fire the first rounds in a cleansing war, something often fantasized on a disturbing number of right-wing forums. Here’s a handy aggregation of the unpatriotic thoughts, anti-constitutional hatred of civil rights, and violence desired by ignorant white supremacists and Dominionists: fstdt.com

You are sick of straw man arguments and offer nothing in return? How about a nut job did the killing in Norway? As for the left wing mass murders, again one would have to go quite a ways to rack up the body counts of Stalin, Mao, and Pol pot. And if you know what genocide is, why wouldn’t you classify abortion as genocide on the unborn? And despite your rallying cries since Reagan was elected, the SCOTUS still hasn’t overturned Roe vs.Wade, and even if they did, which they should as it is a states issue, what states would make it illegal? Given our current financial situation it certainly shouldn’t be federally funded.
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
With the exception of part E, it meets the stated requirements.

However, surely you realize what genocide actually means. It’s the killing of an entire class of people. Its aim is to make them extinct. For abortion to be genocide, its aim would have to be the eventual extinction of the entire class, so that there would never again be an unborn baby…

Hmmm. I already mentioned the Tides Foundation, inspired by Beck. Bill O’Reilly practically invented the “Tiller the Baby Killer” meme, and made Scott Roeder a national hero among Dominionists. Alex Jones is a frequent guest, with his own network. Rick Santorum wants abortion providers charged with a crime, despite the pesky fact it is legal. The film “Gates of Hell” glorifies the murder of abortion doctors, a view rooted in right wing fundamentalism. Sharron Angle thinks Second Amendment solutions are a great way to fix things. Gabreille Giffords had her office attacked well before she was shot.
Byron Williams, James von Brunn, Richard Poplawski, James Adkisson, Walter Fitzpatrick & Darren Huff, Tim Proffitt, Nigel Coleman, Shawna Forde & Jason Bush, Mike Vanderboegh, Flip Benham, James Johnston, and Charles Wilson? All people who, whether as leaders who advocate violence, or consumers of right wing media who’ve have committed it.
This doesn’t include the silent assent in regards to the molestation of children by religious leaders, criminal assault records on women by republican candidates or their staffers, or the dismissal of fraud & ethics violations by a known sexual harasser to discredit a stupendous lapse in judgement- which pales in regard to a politician ordering prostitutes while at work.
The comparison: Students protest with chants and occupy the deans office, or middle class workers surround the state captol. Some people chain themselves to a tree; or animal rightists wave signs, throw paint, maybe drown a whaler. That’s no less irresponsible, but the frequency with which left-wingers actually commit assault appears to be significantly lower when compared to right wing violence: Timothy McVeigh, 9/11, London Subway, Oslo…
If we have audio of a couple right-wing officials discussing ways to incite violence from the other side, that is just the tip of the iceberg.
It’s a matter of keeping your statements within the range of your personal space; not extending them via fist, brick, or bullet when you don’t have enough foundation to support your argument.

So James McVay, who learned his catechism while in prison listening to right-wing radio, saying his elderly victim was collateral damage is acceptable to you?
Stalin and Mao aren’t liberals, especially not in the modern sense. The only way to use them as rhetorical points involves demonstrating a style of governance. The ideals they espoused as either communist or socialist have nothing to do with suppression of free speech with physical violence. Stalin’s era still had an elite class of bureaucrats who exploited existing policy or rewrote them to favor themselves. Sound familiar? Lobbyists for Koch and other Fortune 400 members have paid to be present when legislation is being written, to ensure their particular industry (whether it be oil drilling or fracking, for example) has as few restrictions as possible.
I really think you’re missing the point on liberal: most definitions begin with the term ‘generous’, as in: ensuring everyone has a liberal serving of mashed potatoes and gravy -not just the guy sitting at the head of the table. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/liberal

Factually, honor killings were common in Mediterranean Europe and parts of Eastern Europe right through WW II, and didn’t really end in Spain or Portugal till the deaths of Franco and Salazar. As for mutilating little girls, that custom appears to have been brought into Egypt by the Hyksos in the late second millenium BC from an area roughly congruent with present Kurdistan, where it is still practiced (it seems to have originated in Colchis, though apparently unknown in present-day Georgia). From Egypt, it spread up to the headwaters of the Nile and from there down the Congo, and to coastal areas in immediate communication with the deltas. It is not geographically congruent with Islam, long antedates it, is practiced by Christians and animists of the region, and at one time also by Jews of these countries, though in the early centuries of the Christian era, a rabbi halted the practice. Sicily, by the way, had both honor killings and associated vendettas at least into the sixties. this stuff is neither Christianity nor Islam; it’s feudalism.

The right wing has such a severe case of cognitive dissonance it’s not even funny. They are literally trying to say there is a conspiracy on Facebook to change this guy’s profile after he did this to “paint him as a conservative christian”. http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2011/07/who-added-christian-and-conservative-to-norway-shooters-facebook-page-yesterday.html
All the usual WND-style assclowns are taking the bait, once again.

Laura and FOX are doing exactly what they’ve been doing since 2008: fabricating stories and manufacturing the rage necessary to inspire more violence against Muslims. The fact they ran the recorded show even after news got out that it was a Blonde blue-eyed Christian killing Muslim children is not a coincidence.

Caligirl- even more entertaining is the concept that a truly liberal education would teach them all points of view- not only left and moderate, but the right-wing ideologies they assert are the sole correct way to see the world.
The conservatives I know get quite upset when I point that out to them. I’ve come to like that vein in their forehead!
