It’s back! Yes, #ReasonsToBeatYourGirlfriend was trending again on Twitter. And you thought feminism wasn’t needed anymore. What are those FemiNazis all in an uproar about anyway? I mean, why can’t they take a joke?
Twitter pulled an offensive trending topic down, and before you get all hey, domestic violence isn’t funny, no, according to Tweeters they didn’t pull #ReasonstoBeatYourGirlfriend.
They pulled #GodIsNotGreat.
Because, you know, how dare you defame the God! So what if #GodIsNotGreat is the title of a book written by a brilliant author who just passed away last night? Go into this dark Twitter night, Atheist scum!
But threaten violence against your girlfriend, hey, now that’s funny.
We recall last July when #reasonstobeatyourgirlfriend made its hilarious debut to Twitter.
You totally shouldn’t be alarmed just because 20% of American women have been raped and 25% have been attacked by a husband or partner, I mean that’s only like 1/4 of all American women who have been beaten by a partner. Yeah, this is just so darn funny. Also, there is zero connection between participating in the great joke of tweeting out reasons to beat your girlfriend and the actual astounding level of violence aimed at American women. It’s not as if the attitude that it’s funny makes it okay or anything.
It’s just a joke. Lighten up, FemiNazis!
Back in July, the Globe and Mail reported:
Other tweeters who are upset about the unsavoury trend are petitioning Twitter to remove the trend all together. By 3 p.m. on Monday, the petition had gathered 2,481 supporters. But still no response from Twitter.
One of the more sobering protest tweets has come from a user called tweety_coco, who posted: #reasonstobeatyourgirlfriend – a free breakfast … domestic violence is never acceptable or a joke!
In her message, she linked to the shocking story of a 16-year-old who was convicted of murdering his on-again-off-again girlfriend, after he joked he’d do it for a free breakfast from one of his friends.
Still laughing?
Reasons given for beating your girlfriend by various Twits are: if she speaks, doesn’t make you dinner, or doesn’t text you back — because nothing says manhood like beating a woman for not texting you back (maybe she just doesn’t like you, and God only knows why).
Anyway, in the great upside down world in which we live, some of those pseudo Christians in Tweetville were threatening to kill the Atheists who were tweeting #GodIsNotGreat, apparently quoting their Jesus with Tweets like, “whoever made this a trending topic I’ll kill em myself!” and “go kill yourself!” The compassion, it burns.
According to Tweeters, their outrage (the Christians, not the Atheists) made Twitter pull the super offensive #GodIsNotGreat from trending.
Note: You may threaten to beat your girlfriend and you may also threaten to kill Atheists but do not suggest the God Is Not Great because those kinds of jokes will not be tolerated. I mean, saying God Is Not Great is almost like saying you’re going to beat him, and we all know how vulnerable God is to physical blows.
Irony alert as Mr. Hitchens words from his book God Is Not Great can be applied here, “The Bible may, indeed does, contain a warrant for trafficking in humans, for ethnic cleansing, for slavery, for bride-price, and for indiscriminate massacre, but we are not bound by any of it because it was put together by crude, uncultured human mammals.”
Imagine if the hashtag had been #ReasonsToBeatChristians. Oh, the persecution claims would have thundered through Tweetville! But when it’s just some stupid FemiNazi’s complaining about a real issue, a top cause of death for young women, heck — that’s no biggie.
Just to prove how ridiculous FemiNazis and Atheists are, let’s do a little experiment for the masses. Do we think any of the following are funny?
#ReasonsToBeatYourChild
#ReasonsToBeatYourDog
#ReasonsToBeatYourBoyfriend
#ReasonsToBeatChristians
#ReasonsToBeatAtheists
#ReasonsToBeat(insert class, race, religion)
Yeah. Go ahead, try it. I dare you. See, none of those things are funny. But it’s hee-haw funny to talk about beating a woman.
And we wonder why the rate of violence against women is an epidemic. Feminisinting countered last July with a list of #140reasonsdvisnotajoke, which lists the names of 140 victims of domestic violence.
Tweeters are making their case by Tweeting “#GodIsNotGreat pulled from trends because christians protest. But #ReasonsToBeatYourGirlfriend was allowed. Stay classy, @Twitter.”
To be fair, it’s tough to say how or even if Twitter actually made the decision to pull #GodIsNotGreat from trending or if it just disappeared, but we do know that #ReasonsToBeatYourGirlfriend has been trending before and was trending again. That alone gives us cause to pause.
Sure, it’s probably just a bunch of idiotic young boys showing off their pretend manhood, but it’s our job as a society to teach them that joking about beating their girlfriends is not acceptable. Too many of them are obviously not getting that message, as borne out in the appalling statistics.
Come to the party, Twitter. I love ya’, but domestic violence is not a joke; it kills.

I would have to imagine that God is not great just disappeared itself off the trendline. If you think about it, the vast number of people on twitter are 13, learning to masturbate and have never heard of Christopher Hitchens.( myself included) I sometimes find myself thinking that everyone on twitter is a liberal because basically that’s all I see except for the occasional news from Bahrain stuff. So I can see the name of Christopher Hitchens book disappearing off the trendline pretty quick. And reasons to be your girlfriend would probably be popular with those 13-year-olds who would think it’s cool because I have never been beaten.
But I have two blessings here. Number one for some reason trendlines are trending items do not open up in my Firefox so I am entirely clueless on what trends. Number two I never see things like reasons to be your girlfriend so it’s out of sight out of mind. That certainly doesn’t make it right and I have a feeling that if I comment any more about I’m going to get stereotypical on who would write that

Please cite your source. Hashtags trend up and down, come and go on their own. Please cite a credible source (Twitter employee) that shows they intentionally removed it from the trending list.

“Twitter pulled an offensive trending topic down, and before you get all hey, domestic violence isn’t funny, no, according to Tweeters they didn’t pull #ReasonstoBeatYourGirlfriend.”
Here is a twitter employee who has been consistently addressing this.

Unfortunately many people have been blogging and tweeting this without checking their sources. There is no evidence for this. One tweeter even said to me that
“Twitter admitted on the #HuffingtonPost they pulled it because of christian death threats #GodIsNotGreat”
http://bit.ly/vU13Bq
Twitter never said that they pulled it but its easy for things like this to spread. We all know how the telephone game works.
Keep in mind that there are many hashtags always in competition when trending all over the world so to expect this to stay up for that long isn’t very realistic considering it has never trended until Hitchens died.

As you might notice from my article, I clearly stated twice that there is no proof that Twitter PULLED the trending topic:-)

I have to tell you Ms Cow, I have bookshelf after bookshelf of my favorite Sci Fi books, and the only author I can remember is Asimov. Oh and Louie Lamour. I read stuff daily at HuffPos, raw story etc. but I never note who wrote it. I could have read his articles and never known it

What is really sad is that the men, boy, idiots who beat up on people wee probably beaten themselves. And with the current War on Women that the Right Wing Extremists are waging in Washington, the US is in danger of becoming a real 3rd world country. I guess I just don’t understand that apathy that allowed this to happen.
I did not always agree with Christopher Hitchens, but I loved watching him debate. I pray that God has mercy and that he rest in peace.
