I have a sneaky suspicion that John Boehner will be heading to the bar more often and crying in his scotch. I just found and became a fan of Republicans for Obama. I couldn’t believe it. At first I thought it was one of those hate groups, but the members posting on Facebook sharing their stories are quite, dare I say it? Liberal! Here is their statement:
The Republican party isn’t what it used to be. Our leaders and our most vocal activists have written moderates out of the party and have refused to work with the other side, to the detriment of the nation. Center-right presidents such as Reagan, Bush Sr., Ford, Nixon and Eisenhower would have no chance being nominated today.
Unfortunately, Mitt Romney has not proven to be able to stand up to our party’s most extreme elements. Instead, he has fallen for the “one-size-fits-all” mentality that tax cuts for the already-wealthy will solve all of our problems, and has no workable plans to solve the challenges we face.
President Obama has shown himself to be a common-sense centrist. He has cut taxes when necessary, has taken steps to protect the environment, and has aggressively pursued Islamic extremists who threaten America. Most notably, he has reformed our healthcare system by signing a Republican-inspired healthcare plan into law. In most other points in our party’s history, Obama would fit in well as a Republican.
But what Republicans would support Obama or at least follow Obama’s plan? Eisenhower Republicans, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln Republicans. These progressive Republicans are finally coming out of their platform and will be voting and are endorsing President Barack Obama. So how can that help the Democratic Party?
These Republicans are registered Republicans. They probably live in parts of the country that aren’t disenfranchising the voter role. And their vote would only add to the Obama vote. The teabag party are probably upset.
Their comment:
President Obama has shown himself to be a common-sense centrist. He has cut taxes when necessary, has taken steps to protect the environment
Every Republican president through Ford kept the top-tax tier rate from 74% to 91%. Ford, Nixon, Eisenhower knew the importance of taxes, and yes, these conservatives managed to balance the budget too while building or maintaining the infrastructure and keeping the U.S. in debt…debt is not a bad thing.
Yet to see this
Poll
What did you think about the President’s DNC speech?
Amazing. Can’t wait for another four years!
86%So-so. He didn’t wow me.
8%Not good. Maybe he doesn’t have it in him anymore.
6%Total votes: 1119
Is amazing because out of 1119 potential voters, more than 960 potential Republicans will vote…and maybe a second time for Obama. Why? Because these people are sick and tired of what happened to their party. Gee, I wonder how many Log Cabin members there are in this group?

Republicans For Obama actually started in 2008. Some even say it started in 2007. I know that I became a member in 2008 and we were many across the US. At that time our main social outlet was through yahoo groups. Many of us have been let down by the Republican Party. As Joe Biden said…”This is not your fathers republican party” Anyway, my husband and I eventually became full fledged Democrats and have never looked back!

The sad thing is we need a 2 party system. It keeps both parties in check. Both sides suggest things and then compromise should come in. But now that you have the religious right taking over the party and pushing social issues and fighting any compromise.

What happened to talk about instant runoff ballots. Seems to me this would resolve much of what’s run afoul with the 2 party system & would not only keep a 3rd party from sandbagging it’s closest idealogical counterpart but also give them a better chance a meaningful foothold. Thoughts?

So yes, I expect them to vote left
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck
The United Mine Workers of America (UMW) and rival miners’ unions appropriated both the term redneck and its literal manifestation, the red bandana, in order to build multiracial unions of white, black, and immigrant miners in the strike-ridden coalfields of northern and central Appalachia between 1912 and 1936. The origin of redneck to mean “a union man” or “a striker” remains uncertain, but according to linguist David W. Maurer, the former definition of the word probably dates at least to the 1910s, if not earlier. The use of redneck to designate “a union member” was especially popular during the 1920s and 1930s in the coal-producing regions of southern West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and western Pennsylvania, where the word came to be specifically applied to a miner who belonged to a union.

I have breathed a sigh of relief to know that there ARE “smart” Republicans out there who can see beyond race and party affiliation to want the common good of the country rather than just the privileged few who seem to not understand that they too will eventually suffer in a deteriorating shell of a country which they are stripping of resources and humanity for the sake of their vain, fleeting

I love to read, but a lot of post that I have visited are downright hateful against The President, I also know that there is yen and yang to everything. Some of the people, not all of the people. I love intelligence because it stimulates my intelligence, I like change, because without it you become stagnated. Now these post that I read are really unintelligent, everyone is entitled though. I look for stimulation in the truth and thats what feeds me as I am very logical, I have been around the world three times and that tends to open up your mind, and I believe that a lot of people are stuck, and don’t know whats going on, they haven’t been anywhere, except to visit friends who have not gone anywhere except the store and back home, they are closed minded. I don’t accept them around me, I like positive folks. And no one influences me I have my own mind and I am hardest on myself. So all of you positive people I stand with you, and God bless the United States Of America, says a lot doesn’t it? Love to you all.

This Kool-Aid business is pretty hypocritical, considering the majority of Republicans I’ve met are plugging their ears until they’re in church or watching Fox News. The party has become burdened with anti-intellectualism and hypocrisy, and Romney is playing into these “ideals”.
First off, his idea that colleges breed liberals is only going to shoot him in the foot. He’s basically admitting that anyone with an education would become a Democrat! He plans to cut education funding on the premise that ignorant, uneducated folks are more easily swayed to vote Republican. Nice.
It seems that his core base is now limited to extremist Tea Partiers, the wealthy, racists, and the religious right. Anyone not falling in these categories is voting against their best interests.
Repubs are supposed to be for minimal government, yet Romney plans to aggressively attack state decisions on medical marijuana and gay marriage, the porn industry, labor unions, abortion, etc. Any true small-government Republican would see a problem with this, except the religious right who pick and choose which issues to stick their nose in (guns=good!, weed=bad!).
Funny, I see lots of stories about killings involving guns and religion, but I never heard of someone causing any harm from simply jacking off, smoking weed, or marrying someone of the same sex. Anyone taking offense to these issues feels that they are examples of “bad morals”, yet I would define “bad morals” as lying to your kids by filling their heads with religious nonsense, being a single-issue voter, and promoting the use and proliferation of deadly weapons. Either way, it defies the Republican ideal of keeping out of people’s business.
Meanwhile, he has consistently supported the very things that Repubs supposedly oppose, like increased spending in the military, shifting the tax burden from the rich to the poor, and corporate personhood.
So tell me, who, exactly, is drinking the “Kool-Aid”?

Even though I’m a Progressive Non-Affiliated voter (my state recognizes the Independent Party), I’ve liked the RFO Facebook page and have visited and posted many times to the page. They and I are in agreement on many things, including the fact that there were only three good GOP presidents: Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower. I’ve asked the question, “where are the Eisenhower Republicans?” Well, you can find many of them in the RFO group. Estimates of the number of GOP moderates that have left the party range from 5 to 25 million. If it’s “only” five million, the GOP’s remaining factions, the avarice-fueled aristocrats (Conservative Wrong-Wing Nut Jobs) and the extremist and ignorant idiots (the Tea Party Militia) are in serious trouble. If it’s the higher number, the GOP will die its political death on 6 November, 2012, leaving the Conservatives and Tea Party Militia to start their own parties. That doesn’t mean that GOP moderates don’t have a place to go…quite the contrary, there’s one party that’s in position to replace the GOP, the Progressive Party. There are Progressives in both the Republican (the aforementioned moderates) and Democratic parties. The Progressive Party doesn’t have something that every other party has: extremist and ignorant idiots. A party without those type of people has the best chance to replace the GOP.
By the way, if the number of moderates who have left is, in fact, 25 million, not only will the GOP lose the White House, the US Senate (and a Demo supermajority is seated in January) and the US House, they’re going to lose big-time in state and local races, as well. Warm up the organ for the GOP’s funeral on 7 November, 2012, which I’m going to officiate on YouTube…that’s the bet I have with my FB friends and subscribers. I’ve been practicing my Southern preacher voice for the video LMAO ;)

Just wanted to point out that the RFO webpage has an article about a poll taken not too long ago, of republican voters, and the results were 25% of those **republican** voters do NOT want the ACA repealed.
See, people are using their heads, seeing the greater good. I honestly feel very sorry for any republican whose party has left them behind like this. I like the two party system in principle, but the R party right now is just a disaster, trying to return to 1850s politics and ideology. Ugh. I was horrified to see what came out of that Values Voters summit…the crud about women dressing modestly because “men can’t control their lustful urges”. Good God, what have we come to?

Well, I must say…..this is a breath of fresh air!! I vote (mostly) Democrat, and predominantly support moderate to liberal ideals & candidates, so I have endured my fair share of hate messages, and derogatory statements about my intelligence, my education, my upbringing, my values, my beliefs, my opinions…..you name it…..I’ve been attacked on all sides for my views…(even from many of my family members)!
So the fact that there is a large (and growing) group of moderates who formerly identified themselves as Republicans, that are now breaking away from that political group that has become the champions of the American Taliban Tea Party mentality……is encouraging! I applaud you!! Those extremists need to be stopped! That is not the direction for America! I think we all agree that none of us wants to go back to the 1800′s again!! I would probably support the Progressive Party, depending on what their platform would be. Make it happen! Make it so!

I am a lifetime Democrat and a proud Liberal and Unionist, but I am not as head blind as these tea thugs in that I can not recognize worth in the political oppositions position. Once upon a long time ago the Repubs had some very worthy points that anyone could agree with, fiscal responsibility, tax burdens kept to a reasonable level and the consideration of the impact on the business environment of any new law. This being said, what the tea bashers want is the destruction of our Government and it’s replacement with Mussolini’s Italy. As for the term “redneck” which was used to describe the unionized coal miners who wore the red bandanas for solidarity, There was another time the word “redneck” was used to describe small white Southern farmers during the late 1700′s to early 1800′s who worked in the fields alongside their own slaves in the hot sun with many got their necks sunburned as a result. When these farmers came to town to sell their crops, the wealthy plantation owners who did not need to work their fields referred to those small working farmers with sunburned necks as “rednecks”.
