Obama for America’s new ad calls Romney out for his spectacular debate “performance”. When the cameras rolled Mitt Romney’s performance began, but the problem is that’s all it was.
Watch here:
The Obama campaign described the ad, “Whether he was talking about taxes, healthcare, or almost anything else, Mitt Romney didn’t tell the truth in the first presidential debate. He denied the very existence of his $5 trillion tax plan weighted toward the wealthy and made dishonest statements about his plan for people with pre-existing medical conditions. Maybe that’s because his real plans would mean devastating consequences for the middle-class, like raising taxes on them in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. With so much at stake, America needs a president with character, not a politician who just plays one.”
Obama is a thoughtful man, a person of substance and character. He didn’t treat the debate like a boxing match, and pundits say he lost because of it. I’m not so sure that’s true. I suppose it’s how we define win. Is winning a debate beating up your opponent with lies, or is winning a debate taking your case to the people?
Mitt Romney has been branded fairly with the stamp of dishonesty by virtue of the first debate alone. And he was clearly playing a character, as he abandoned almost his entire platform from the past year in the debate. What did we learn about Mitt Romney in the debate? Only that once again, he wasn’t being straight with us.

Willard’s act was just that, an act, with feigned empathy for the middle class and the poor. But his rudeness, his eagerness to keep getting the last word, and his lying were no act. Even though he disavowed just about everything on his well-known platform, he could not disguise the qualities that make him such an obnoxious creep. Those are qualities that shine through no matter how much he flip flops and lies. Just like a leopard can’t change its spots, Willard can’t hide the fact that he is a heartless, plutocratic sociopath who despises the very people he wants to lead as president.

One of these days, someone is going to catch Romney telling a truth.

I wish there was a way to fan your post for being funny as well as having a great deal of truth. We do know he was truthful in his private remarks about the 47%, so maybe we’ll catch him telling the truth in public.

I meant that Willard told the truth as to how he really feels about the 47%. The disdain and dismissiveness are unmistakeable.

I don’t think President Obama lost this debate. He stayed true to himself, in spite of romney’s lack of honesty, lack of respect for the moderator, lack of respect for the American people. What we saw was a very unpresidential debate, and romney took it there, while President Obama maintained his dignity. Romney is the new word for liar.

What matters most are the issues not how the media perceive the appearance of the candidates. The media, including NPR, has abandoned its supposed mission to expose the truth and aims to stir controversy to keep the horse race going regardless of the truth. Did Romney’s performance change the fact that he would voucherize Medicare, privatize Social Security, increase taxes for the middle class while lowering taxes for the wealthy, or change his perception of and compassion for the poor and working people? Absolutely not!
I watched the debate and perceived Romney as desparate, gritting his teeth behind his fake thin lipped smile. How desparate was he? He etched a sketched himself from extreme Tea Party right wing conservatism that seemed to be failing back to the center of the political spectrum in hope it would change his fortunes yet again. I perceived Obama as calm, confident with a genuine smile, and consistent in his position on the issues in support of the middle income class and the poor.
Time will tell if media spin will override the best interests of the American people and re-invigorate Mitt Romney’s sinking political fortunes.

I can’t help but wonder just what country am I living in when someone can tell lie after lie and can be considered the winner of anything.
