One of, but not limited to, the symptoms of depression is a feeling of hopelessness that can be exacerbated by unrelenting bad news, and for the past two weeks, Americans were bombarded with portents of doom and gloom over the Republican sequester. On Sunday, there was a glimmer of good news in the form of a reminder Willard Romney is not the president, and although he said it “kills him” he cannot “boss people around,” he is still alive enough to run his lying mouth about the President and how he handled the sequester. Now that the sequester is signed into law, as bad as it is, Romney preferred Paul Ryan’s budget that was four times as damaging as the sequester and increased the deficit by at least $4 trillion. One of Willard’s biggest supporters is cheering the sequester and claiming credit for its enactment, and looks forward to imposing more economic hardship on the people and the nation in their never-ending assault on government.
In an email, Koch brothers’ front group, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), sent congratulations to Republicans and their supporters around the country for helping push sequester cuts AFP says are “an important step forward for economic growth.” The email continued, “Americans for Prosperity thanks Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans for standing up to President Obama and making sure the $85 billion in much-needed sequester spending cuts took effect,” and it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Koch brothers and Republicans own the sequester and are giddy at the prospect of a recession and killing millions of jobs. One aspect of sequester cuts little mentioned is that the devastating $85 billion for 2013 is just the beginning of greater domestic spending cuts, devastating effects on anti-poverty programs, Medicare, and without cessation, the end of recovery.
The sequester is a ten year plan that cuts $1.2 trillion across the board, and because they began in March, $85 billion is about 70% of the next nine years of cuts coming in at about $123.88 billion every year. It spells the end of recovery because experts estimate that by the end of 2013, $85 billion in cuts means nearly a million jobs will vanish, and GDP will fall between .7% and 1.7% in the first year alone. Kochs, AFP, teabaggers, and Republicans are celebrating austerity that deliberately tanks the economy, creates massive poverty, and all to avoid closing tax loopholes for the richest people in America. Republicans claimed 2013 sequester cuts would devastate the economy, and yet they are celebrating nine more years of 30% higher cuts, and are a reminder of the damage Willard Romney would have imposed. Romney took time to weigh in on the sequester and accuse the President of campaigning instead of working with Republicans to avert the cuts they were destined to enact.
According to Willard, “The president brings people together, does the deals, does the trades…the president leads, and I don’t see that kind of leadership happening. He’s campaigning.” Romney also suspected President Obama blamed Republicans for rejecting attempts to avert the sequester because “there may be more interest in showing pain in saying, See what the other guys did?” President Obama did attempt to trade, deal, lead, and bring Republicans together, but the sequester was the means Republicans used to impose austerity, and unless Obama agreed to void defense cuts and replace them with more austerity and domestic cuts, the sequester was going forward as part of Republicans’ four-year war on the economy.
Real economic experts cited ways Republicans are deliberately killing recovery; self-inflicted austerity, cuts to under-funded social programs, cut Social Security and Medicare benefits by slashing “entitlements,” and the sequester. Republicans and their supporters at Americans for Prosperity encouraged their base to campaign to “keep the cuts” so we can “get our economy moving again” in spite of overwhelming evidence that killing a million jobs and slashing domestic spending will cut GDP between .7-1.7% in the first year of a ten year program. Austerity already cost a reduction in growth in the fourth quarter, and combined with the Eurozone’s austerity-caused recession increases the risk to America’s economy because Europe is the nation’s leading trading partner. Austerity is decimating economies all over the world and all the while, Republicans, Koch brothers, and teabaggers are celebrating.
Americans for Prosperity parroted a right-wing canard that America has a spending crisis and said, “For the first time in a long time, genuine substantive spending reductions actually took effect and the government is running just a bit leaner,” and it belies President Obama’s reduced spending that already cost a reduction in GDP in the last quarter of 2012. America cannot recover, much less thrive, with perpetual spending cuts that kill jobs and retard growth, but that has been the Republican plan all along. It is unfortunate that Republicans were successful creating a false deficit crisis because it has ensnared Democrats who cannot speak about the economy without first trumpeting the virtue of “reducing the deficit” and it will lead the nation into a downward economic spiral that no-one, not even the President, can prevent regardless the people’s overwhelming support for his storied “balanced approach” to…deficit reduction.
Republicans won the austerity battle, and Americans will now know what it feels like to live in “socialist Europe” that imposed austerity, massive unemployment, negative growth, double and triple-dip recessions, and no hope for recovery anytime soon. Maybe there were two bits of good news yesterday after all; Willard is not president, and sequester damage in 2013 will be the least for the next ten years. Because if $85 billion is devastating, kills a million jobs, and cuts GDP by a percentage point, then nine years of $123.88 billion each will certainly eviscerate the economy; it was Republicans’ plan all along. It is just tragic, though, that they imposed austerity by injecting two words into every discussion about the economy; deficit reduction. It’s no wonder teabaggers, Republicans, and Americans for Prosperity are celebrating and congratulating each other; they won with two words.

Once again, the monstrous disconnect is obvious for all to see. What Republicans SAY and then what they DO is so radically different, it seems they should be creating a whole new category of ‘cognizant dissonance.’ How can anyone possibly justify running with ‘it’s all Obama’s fault’ and ‘it’s Obama’s sequester – it was his idea from the inception,’ etc, etc, etc with NOW having the Koch brothers publicly congratulating Republicans for bringing this down on our heads? Once AGAIN, I believe they have massively underestimated the American people, because I’m betting this one is gonna bite ‘em hard. I guess we should send an engraved ‘thank you’ card to the Koch brothers for publicly announcing just exactly who is really behind this monstrosity.

What is important:
1) making sure the POTUS uses the bully pulpit HARD in the run up to the midterms as these cuts kick and start to hurt people.
2) how bad will it be for Hillary to win? Will people be hurting so bad, that she won’t have a chance or will people be OK and the GOP looks like a fool? Her chances of continuing a Democrat in the White House will depend on how these go.
As an aside, the military takes a huge hit…as in the “sacred cow” of the GOP…for voters. I can tell you…more and more military are moving away from the GOP. This does not help their cause.

I seem to forget – who elected the Koch bros? The new republican governor in NC is already playing
by the Koch’s instruction manual. He is going to throw people off unemployment, give more tax breaks to the rich, and put his cronies in his cabinet. He is a big stockholder in Duke Energy so he is going to change the energy regulatory commission for cost in the state, his buddies want a 14.9% cost increase (of course his stock will go way up)He is thinking of doing away with NC income tax and greatly increasing the sales tax which will help the rich but starve the poor. And that’s the plan, he also wants to fast track all that fracking nonsense.

It’s so that the populace becomes so desperate and disillusioned that they are ready for a coup and a dictatorship, ready to see the disenfranchisement, enslavement, and even slaughter of whoever are “those people” to them. They can’t figure it out because for one thing, Liberals are very smart, and the Republicans are too stupid to figure out anything. Or how they can take a health care reform bill essentially the same as the one Romney passed in Massachusetts, and demonize it, because it’s called “Obamacare”, instead of “Romneycare”? How can any duly elected official blatantly lie about what the president is doing, calling him “a weak, uninspired leader”, when it is in fact the actions, or rather In-action of the Republicans, who are working overtime to make the president seem ineffective. Even Newt Ginrich said “Nobody should ever want to see our president fail. And nobody should work hard to make him fail.” Is it ‘Pro-America” to enable the financial industry to force homeowners out of their homes, due to foreclosure? I could go on and on, but I see the behavior of the GOP, and I could write an extensive list of their heinous policies, and they would all look “Pro-Corporations” and very “Anti-Average American Citizen” I won’t apologize for saying what I see as a concerted GOP effort to destroy the Middle Class, and further divide the country along the lines of economic disparity, and subsequent class divisions. Well dj, for the sake of civil discussion, I will refrain from using such an “over the line’ description of the GOP and their Corporate Fat Cat policies. But that doesn’t change the fact that their agenda would seek to destroy the very nation they claim to love so much. The tactics that the wealthy corporate enslavers utilize, such as the Koch brothers, is very effective, relying on a weak-minded, erroneously patriotic, uninformed group of hate-filled hypocrites, with a mob mentality. The average working-class Republican believes that “Americans For Prosperity”, “FreedomWorks”, and the “TEA Party” are all grassroots organizations. No effort to research who funds them, and makes the policy decisions. They just believe the propaganda. If I even attempt to have a polite discussion with a Republican, it very quickly becomes the Republican raising their voice, to display their correctness, and my error. I do not lower myself to engage in a heated argument. No amount of logic or fact-based truth can affect their hate and fear. And they for the most part claim “America is a Christian nation!” Well, I can’t tell that from their behavior. What they do doesn’t seem very “Christian” to my way of thinking.

I would like to see the Democratic Party & President Obama pick 10 of the most egregious tax loopholes that need to be closed. Be specific. The war is underway; pick the battles that can be won. Take on the lobbyists and industrialists and corporate welfare recipients of 10 BIG loopholes. Brace for the fight and fight to win. I believe one of the problems with the whole sequester debate is the ethereal nature of the term “tax loopholes”. Don’t go after mortgage deductions; go after tax rates on dividends in excess of a million dollars; go after yacht and private jet write-offs. We started down that road during the campaign (with the private jet provisions), but “strategists” decided they couldn’t take on the lobbyists and win the election simultaneously. Understand. But we won the election, and it’s now time to take on the lobbyists. My rally cry is “Pick 10. Fight For Reform.”

Thanks to Rmuse for telling it like it is. If anyone goes through the trouble to investigate the Koch brothers, Rupert Murdock, Roger Ailes and other billionaire GOP, they would be horrified. Check out their beliefs, principles and how they got their money. I watched a documentary once on Current TV and was shocked and horrified. According to reports, it is their desire to crush the US economy, government, destroy medicaid and medicare, and have the cheapest labor known to man outside of slavery itself. And the GOP followers have been so dumbed down by Fox faux news and Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh that they can’t even begin to see how they’ve become their own worst enemy. The racism, bigotry, greed and hate has hit huge proportions! Prior to Reagan, Bush, and the Tea Party nuts, America was the place to be. You could make a good, decent living from hard work and education. You could buy a nice home to raise your kids. Now people are working at low pay and several jobs just to put food on the table if they have a home at all. President Obama tried his best to come in and tackle this inequality using the words “spread the wealth”. He has been attacked by his own, by his enemies, and by both the so called liberal and fake media outlets. I pray to God we wake up before it’s too late. What’s even worse are the delusional folks who cheer these severe budget cuts, even though we can look at other countries like Greece in order to see what a proven failure they are. They have no empathy for fellow humans or the awareness that their own lives could turn on a dime. They don’t seem to grasp that if our shrank to Tea Partier ideals, all of us would end up with a quality of life that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.
