Very quietly, Donald Trump has dropped his $5 million lawsuit against Bill Maher over a birth certificate joke Maher made on The Tonight Show.
Back in February, Bill Maher joked that if Donald Trump produced proof that he wasn’t the son of a monkey, he would make a $5 million donation to the charity of Trump’s choice. Trump responded by sending a copy of his birth certificate to Maher, and demanding $5 million. Trump filed a lawsuit against Maher, who replied by demanding his long form birth certificate.

According to TMZ (sigh), Trump quietly dropped his lawsuit against Maher last Thursday,
Now, we’ve learned Trump filed documents in L.A. County Superior Court on March 29 to dismiss the case … but a rep for “The Apprentice” star says it doesn’t mean the war is over.
“The lawsuit was temporarily withdrawn to be amended and refiled at a later date,” says Michael Cohen (Trump’s Executive Vice President and Special Counsel).
As for when Trump plans to refile the suit … that question is still unanswered.
I can answer that question. Trump will never refile the lawsuit, because he has absolutely zero chance of winning. Jokes on late night television are not legally binding contracts. Of course Donald Trump isn’t really a billionaire, so maybe this whole thing is a perfect setup for an episode of Judge Judy, who isn’t really a judge anymore.
It is absolutely unfathomable that some people on the right still take Donald Trump seriously. It was a mark of Mitt Romney’s absolute desperation that he literally embraced Donald Trump while he was running for president.
The shame of it is that I wish Maher would have taken this thing to court, and sued Trump for damages. Can you imagine Trump having to pay Maher’s legal costs and possible damages over his stupid publicity stunt?
Somebody has to teach Trump to stop wasting America’s time with his self promotional BS. It’s one thing for Republicans to embrace Donald Trump doltish racist arrogance, but Trump gets way too much attention from the rest of the country.
It’s time for America to dump Trump.
