Yahoo/ABC News sat down with Sen. Sanders and talked about 2016:

Sanders is so delighted with his brand of politics that he said in an interview with “The Fine Print” that it would be a “damn good platform” on which to run for president.

“If the American people understand what goes on in countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and other countries, they will say, ‘Whoa, I didn’t know that!'” Sanders said, pointing out that health care is considered a right, “R-I-G-H-T,” among even the most conservative politicians in Denmark.

….

One of Sanders’ most likely competitors, should he choose to seek the Democratic nomination, is Hillary Clinton. And while Sanders praised Clinton for a successful career, he was critical of the Democratic Party’s seeming coronation of the former secretary of state. “She has accomplished a lot of very positive things in her career, but I’m not quite sure that the political process is one in which we anoint people,” Sanders said.

Regular readers all know about the Sanders platform. There is one mistake in this article. Bernie Sanders can’t run for the Democratic nomination. Sen. Sanders is an Independent. In order to run for the Democratic nomination, Sanders would have to switch to the Democratic Party, which is something that he has ruled out in the past.

If Sen. Sanders runs for president, it will be as an Independent. He knows that he won’t win, but the goal is to push Hillary Clinton to the left. The idea of not having a single serious challenger from the left disturbs many Americans. Mrs. Clinton has demonstrated with her recent foreign policy remarks that she is already lining herself up for the 2016 general election by moving to the center.

While Clinton would make a fine president, the country should not just hand her the presidency. Republicans look like they are only going to be able to muster token opposition, so it is going to be up to the left to hold Hillary Clinton accountable.

Sen. Sanders previously stated that he would only run if no candidate emerged on the left. It looks like Sen. Elizabeth Warren won’t be running, which means that it may fall to Sen. Sanders to represent the left in 2016. There are few people better in American politics who could carry the standard for the left.

Sanders was correct. He has the perfect platform, and he may be pressed into duty in 2016.
