The Specter of a Controlling Islam Hides a Controlling Religious Right

Audrey Russo, billed as a singer and dancer, as well as, apparently, an expert on Islam, did a real song and dance at BarbWire on Halloween, comparing “leftists” and Islam to Dracula, saying all are control freaks.

This, mind you, is from a representative of the party that wants to regulate and control vaginas, marriage, contraception, workers’ rights, religion, education, and too many other things to count.

Russo says, “[T]hat blood-sucking, hypnotist Dracula [is] always busy controlling his followers one bite at a time”:

It reminds me of Leftists…but they don’t do it one-by-one through hypnosis. They work deceptively under, over and around the democratic process until they have a stranglehold on a society…and law-abiding citizens (which they were never) end up having to do their bidding. Leftists are wannabe tyrants in denial.

Oh dear. “Around the democratic process?” Evidence of this please? No, none offered. It’s just a fact because this singer and dancer says so.

Keep in mind, once again, that this from a representative of the party that wants to regulate damn near everything we, as individuals, do, violate the First Amendment with the Hobby Lobby decision, disenfranchising millions of voters (through the Voting Rights Act decision and other tricks) so they can actually win an election with the most heinous political platform ever advanced – all the while working to deregulate everything banks and corporations do.

Phew! I can’t even say that with one breath. Can you?

I might mention, parenthetically, the most recent case of voter suppression, that by Mitch McConnell, covered here and here by Sarah Jones.

Putting old, old Mitch aside for a moment, let’s think about what society is (since Russo has not). Here is what Wikipedia says about society:

A human society is a group of people involved in persistent interpersonal relationships, or a large social grouping sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent members. In the social sciences, a larger society often evinces stratification or dominance patterns in subgroups.

Notice that there is nothing about corporations or banks there, just as there is nothing about corporations being people in the Constitution so recently violated by the Supreme Court. Or even religions (also not in the Constitution excepting where it bans establishment of a state religion, and also recently violated by the Supreme Court). Society is about people, as in “We the People.” It is about individuals.

You wouldn’t know that from Republican rhetoric, or from their platform, which is as stringent as the Mosaic Law – or Sharia Law they fear so much – they would like to force upon we individuals.

But Russo isn’t focused on us leftists. Her real enemy is Islam:

But, worse…and SCARIER than these two, are those devout, Quran-worshiping followers of Islam. These are the Muslims who KNOW that the verse of Abrogation substitutes the later, violent verses for the earlier peaceful verses of the Quran. They do as Muhammed did in conquering, raping, pillaging and murdering for Allah.

I thinks she missed the Christian genocide against Classical Paganism, which was followed by the Christian genocide against Northern European Paganism, followed by the genocide against East European Paganism, followed by the Crusade against Middle Eastern Islam. That list doesn’t include the almost nonstop pogrom against Judaism in Christian Europe, the almost nonstop suppression of “heresies” in Christian Europe, or the later Inquisition, the Thirty Years War, and, of course, the ever-popular witch-burnings.

Thomas Jefferson did not say in his Notes on the State of Virginia, “Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity,” just to exercise his gums. He said it because it is true. As scholar Gerd Lüdemann has written, Christianity has consumed “at least a million people per century” over the past two millennia (The Acts of the Apostles, 2005:383).

That is quite a death toll, and leaves neither Christians nor pseudo-Christians any moral high ground from which to attack Islam for violence.

Not sure how she managed to do that, but she did. It’s a neat trick, pretending facts don’t exist so you can replace them with some agenda-friendly invented facts. *Cough* Benghazi *Cough*

But here is where it starts to get really interesting:

Saudi Arabia is considered the paradigm for an Islamic society, run by the Sharia.

And infidels…non-Muslims…are forced to comply with Sharia Law.

They have, she says,

  • No individual freedom.
  • No free speech rights.
  • No religious freedom (Bibles, Crosses and Stars of David are all confiscated and destroyed on entry to the Saudi Kingdom).
  • No independence for women.
  • Barbaric punishment for ‘crimes’.

The ideology of Islam and its adherents…rather than Dracula and current-day Leftists, are by far the scariest control freaks on earth today.

How is this different than the agenda being pushed on Americans by the Republican Party’s theocrats?

She concludes with, “If you doubt that…try moving to the Saudi Kingdom…”

The problem is, if Russo and the Religious Right get their way, we won’t have to move to the Saudi Kingdom, because the Saudi Kingdom is coming to us. The only difference is the name of the god to whom we must all bow down and do obeisance.

You see, theocracy is theocracy. The name of the god matters not at all, and one form of religious oppression is as evil as another.
