White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest blasted Republicans for being unhappy that diplomacy worked and got 10 US sailors released from Iran. Earnest suggested that Republicans would rather start a new war in the Middle East than be happy that the sailors are coming home.

According to The Hill, Earnest said:

I’m sure everyone is pleased, especially the sailors and their families, that they are returned safely and diplomacy did save the day,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. “I know that the only people who are unhappy about it are Republicans for some reason.”

The spokesman said the country would be at war if it followed Republicans’ calls and engaged in saber-rattling with Tehran over the incident.
“We’d probably be in a bloody war with Iran right now over our sailors,” Earnest said.

“It is unclear to me, by the way, exactly how the safety and the security of the United States, or our men and women in uniform is advanced by starting a war with a nation like Iran that has an advanced military,” he added.

Anyone who watched the Fox Business Republican debate would have thought that the soldiers being released was the worst thing in the world.

During the debate, Ted Cruz said, “Today, many of us picked up our newspapers, and we were horrified to see the sight of 10 American sailors on their knees, with their hands on their heads. In that State of the Union, President Obama didn’t so much as mention the ten sailors that had been captured by Iran. President Obama’s preparing to send $100 billion or more to the Ayatollah Khamenei. And I’ll tell you, it was heartbreaking.”

Donald Trump was more dramatic than Cruz, “I stood yesterday with 75 construction workers. They’re tough, they’re strong, they’re great people. Half of them had tears pouring down their face. They were watching the humiliation of our young ten sailors, sitting on the floor with their knees in a begging position, their hands up. And Iranian wise guys having guns to their heads. It was a terrible sight. A terrible sight. And the only reason we got them back is because we owed them with a stupid deal, $150 billion. If I’m president, there won’t be stupid deals anymore.”

The Republican presidential candidates were devastated because they lost a chance to start a war with Iran. Republicans view the sailors being released without a shot being fired as a bad thing. Earnest was right. Republicans would use the sailors as an excuse to start a new war.

The Republican Party has learned nothing from the Bush years. Their presidential candidates are anxious and eager to get back to the White House to start a new war.

Diplomacy and peace are bad outcomes for Republicans. In the GOP worldview, America is only strong if it is involved in a war in the Middle East. The Republican disappointment over the successful return of the ten sailors is more than unpatriotic. It is a foreshadowing of what the GOP will do if they win back the White House.
