Republicans Reeling As Pressure Grows To Call Off Planned Parenthood Probe

The pressure is mounting for House Republicans to call off their Planned Parenthood probe.

In the wake of a Texas grand jury clearing Planned Parenthood and indicting the creators of the deceptively edited videos, NOW President Terry O’Neill issued a statement demanding Speaker Ryan call of the Planned Parenthood probe or turn it into a probe on anti-abortion violence.

O’Neill condemned Republicans for violence-inciting rhetoric, “The violence-inciting rhetoric used by Republican leaders in the House pushed the debate over abortion past all reason and beyond the rule of law. A direct line can be drawn from the credence given to malicious lies about Planned Parenthood and the murderous rampage at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, CO, last November. The suspect in that case used the phrase “no more baby parts” to explain his actions.”

The NOW President pointed out that the Select Panel probe is based on the lies of accused criminals, “Now that Planned Parenthood has been cleared, and criminal charges have been filed instead against the anti-abortion activists who lied about their activities, Paul Ryan and the Republican leaders of Congress need to recognize that their case against Planned Parenthood is based on a tissue of lies, dreamed up by a shady bunch of accused criminals.”

O’Neill called on Speaker Ryan to drop the probe or turn it on anti-abortion violence, “NOW calls on Speaker Paul Ryan to disband the so-called Select Investigative Panel designed to undermine Planned Parenthood, or redirect it to focus on anti-abortion violence. If a Republican D.A. and a Texas grand jury can see through the lies and manipulation that characterize these attacks against Planned Parenthood, why can’t Congress?”

Select Panel Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) already condemned House Republicans for still using the videos as the basis for a Select Panel on Planned Parenthood.

A Texas grand jury – TEXAS – cleared Planned Parenthood, so the game is up.

The Planned Parenthood probe was never based on reality, as Republicans knew that the videos, even as deceptively edited as they were, never showed Planned Parenthood doing anything illegal. The only people who did anything illegal, according to a Texas grand jury, are the people who made the tapes. I would add to that there is also the appearance of a conspiracy involving Republican lawmakers.

House Republicans have not expressed any concern with the people being killed, injured, and intimidated against their Constitutionally protected rights and liberties. Instead, they are continuing on with this fake investigation while ignoring the real crimes right under their own noses.
