Elizabeth Warren Blasts Republicans For Insulting The Constitution And Obama

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) hammered Republicans today for insulting the Constitution and President Obama by refusing to do their jobs.

Video via CBS This Morning:

Sen. Warren quoted Sen. Pat Toomey’s (D-PA) statement that if Merrick Garland has been nominated by a Republican, he would consider it, and said, “This has just really taken off in a direction that is a direct insult to the President. It is a direct insult to the Constitution, and now it is a direct insult to Judge Garland.”

Warren was asked about the so-called “Biden Rule,” and said, “Let’s be clear, just go back and look at the history, Every single Republican, every single Supreme Court nominee to a vacant position has had its hearing and a vote. The only ones who didn’t get a hearing didn’t get a hearing because they went straight to a vote. That is a hundred years of actual fact.”

Sen. Warren is correct that the fight over Merrick Garland’s nomination has nothing to do with precedent or filling the Supreme Court vacancy. The point of the Republican obstruction is to get one final big insult in on President Obama. Republicans think that they can use the Supreme Court vacancy to win the 2016 election.

Senate Republicans have found a new way to shame their country and undermine our constitutional system of government by refusing to do their jobs. The obstruction that Senate Republicans are engaging in runs in direct contrast with Constitution.

Republicans are embarrassing the American people in front of the entire world. They have also shown that they are willing to lose an election to insult President Obama.
