Republican Hispanics Dump Trump After Hate-Filled Immigration Speech

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 09:07 pm

Roger Ailes warned Donald Trump that his Mexico trip was “needlessly risky”, but Trump didn’t listen.

Not only did Trump not win back Republican white, college educated whites but he’s now losing support with some Republican Hispanics after his hate-filled immigration speech that my colleague Jason Easley called a “Klan rally”. It certainly pleased white nationalists, including David Duke.

So it’s no surprise that some Republican Hispanics are dumping Trump.

NBC Latino reported that Trump’s immigration speech may have backfired because “Latinos feel ‘bamboozled” and “betrayed’.

Watch here:

Politico reported that several “major Latino surrogates for Donald Trump are reconsidering their support” after Trump’s speech Wednesday night.

“Jacob Monty, a member of Trump’s National Hispanic Advisory Council, has resigned, and Alfonso Aguilar, the president of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, said in an interview that he is ‘inclined’ to pull his support.”

Aguilar isn’t saying for sure that the organization will pull its support, just that he personally feels inclined to do so and, “We feel misled.”

Adding that he didn’t hear anything compassionate or humane in Trump’s speech, Aguilar said in an interview reported by Politico, “I can tell you there’s a real possibility we will withdraw support from Donald Trump because of that disappointing speech.â€

How is the speech related to Trump’s ill-advised trip to Mexico? Good question.

Trump made a fool of himself in Mexico, and appeared weak and wimpy with President Peña Nieto. Trump claimed that they hadn’t talked about who was going to pay for the wall, and yet Peña Nieto blasted Trump on Twitter claiming that he had indeed told Trump in no uncertain terms that Mexico wouldn’t be paying for the wall.

And as Trump is wont to do when his ego isn’t being serviced enough, Trump ricocheted from this humiliation straight into his “immigration” speech, during which he was supposed to present a New Trump. Instead, fueled by an endless need for approval, Trump held a Klan rally.

From the Klan, Trump gets love and so to the Klan Trump will cater.

Naturally the result of this was not only a failure to present New Not a Racist Trump, and a failure to present Statesman Trump, but it also presented Wimpy, Subservient Trump and alienated some Republican Hispanics.

Not that Trump really wanted the Hispanic vote. Or he doesn’t want it enough to pretend he sees Hispanics as people. What he really wanted was to assure college educated whites that voting for him wouldn’t be a huge embarrassment. Fail.

Fail. Fail. Fail.

Protip: The goal is to expand the tent. If the candidate is shrinking the tent, he is going in the wrong direction.
