Hillary Clinton illness

Trump Supporters’ Response To Clinton’s Illness Only Validates Her ‘Deplorable’ Comment

Wow, what a weekend.

It started with the fallout from Hillary Clinton’s remarks on Friday which pretty appropriately described some Donald Trump supporters as “deplorable.”

After the Republican nominee’s supporters feigned outrage for a day, there was a momentary pause as the nation reflected on the 15-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. It was supposed to be a day when both candidates and their supporters put politics aside and came together in remembrance of all those we lost in the 2001 tragedy.

That didn’t last long, though; Hillary Clinton had to gall to get sick.

After Clinton became overheated during her attendance to a muggy, outdoor 9/11 memorial in New York City, the right-wing conspiracy machine went into full throttle hoping to score political points.

Their response was to pounce, not wish her well.

Of course, we now know, per Clinton’s doctor, that the candidate was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday, which explains the symptoms she displayed while leaving the memorial.

Even then, Trump supporters continued to stir up insane conspiracy theories.

Some claimed that Clinton was gravely ill and unfit to be president. Others suggested she had a stroke while leaving the memorial. After she left Chelsea Clinton’s apartment later in the day on Sunday, they criticized her for interacting with a little girl, even though Clinton wouldn’t have been contagious at that point.

A large group of Trump supporters even took to Twitter to claim Clinton has a body double, and that’s really the person that appeared outside Chelsea’s apartment yesterday. Their biggest piece of evidence is that there was no Secret Service with Clinton as she exited the building, even though there was.

If there is one word to describe the response of Trump supporters it would be … deplorable.

Hillary Clinton is sick with a common and treatable illness that affects millions of people each year. Like many of us, the Democratic nominee soldiered on and continued to do her job by attending campaign events, fundraisers, briefings, and a memorial to commemorate those we lost 15 years ago.

The idea that Trump supporters would make political hay out of this only validates the comments she made last week.

A sizable chunk of the GOP nominee’s supporters could indeed be put into a “basket of deplorables.”  Their behavior this weekend only proves that.
