With a single tweet about Martin Luther King, Donald Trump revealed why he is going to be a disaster of a president.

Trump tweeted:

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), who marched with King, reminded everyone what we are remembering today:

In Dr. King’s “I’ve Been To The Mountaintop” speech, he said, “Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge to make America what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make America a better nation. And I want to thank God, once more, for allowing me to be here with you.”

If one reads Dr. King’s speeches, the great man was never about what he accomplished, but what we could accomplish.

It is a concept that it completely lost on Donald Trump. The president-elect is not a visionary who is thinking about the country in total. Everything in Trump’s mind is routed through the narrow concept of self.

Martin Luther King wasn’t about what he personally could accomplish. King was a leader of a movement for equality and justice. The movement was the focus, not the man.

Donald Trump completely missed the point of Dr. King’s life and work. Trump loves to claim that he is leading a movement, but the president-elect has confused a movement with an egocentric cult of personality. Trump isn’t leading a movement because intellectually incapable of thinking in the terms needed to lead a group of people.

How Trump interpreted the life of Dr. King speaks volumes about the kind of president he will be. Donald Trump will never govern for all Americans. Trump can’t see America. All Donald Trump can see is his own power and interests, and this fatal flaw is why he is destined to fail as president.
