Democrats Hammer Reeling Republicans With 100 Nationwide Rallies To Save Health Care

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has announced that Senate Democrats will be holding 100 rallies across the country to fight the Republican plan to take health care away from 20 million Americans.

In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, Sen. Sanders said:

On Saturday at more than 100 rallies, taking place from coast to coast, the American people will let Republicans know they are standing against their attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, throwing 20 million Americans off of their health insurance, privatizing Medicare, making massive cuts in Medicaid, raising the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and, at the same time, giving a massive tax break to the top 1 percent. The American people want to improve the Affordable Care Act, not destroy it.

We’ve seen unprecedented grassroots energy at Republican town hall meetings across the country this week. The American people are fighting back. As the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care for all, we are not going backwards. We’re going forwards.

Sen. Sanders is the Senate Democrats outreach leader. The rallies are a joint effort by Sanders and Democratic Leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Earlier this month, Sanders and Schumer encouraged fellow Senate Democrats to lead their own rallies in a letter, “We are encouraging Democratic senators to lead rallies in their states. This is not a Democratic issue, a Republican issue or an Independent issue. The overwhelming majority of Americans, regardless of political persuasion, understand that we have to go forward on health care, not backward.â€

Republicans have been flooded with angry constituents at their town halls. The timing couldn’t be better for a series of national rallies that will highlight the opposition to repealing the Affordable Care Act and taking health care away from 20 million Americans. The American people want to keep their Obamacare.

While some Republicans are threatening to cancel their town halls if there are protests, Democrats are standing with the people. One party is listening to what the people want, while Republicans are living in a Trump-fueled world of denial that will only lead to their defeat.
