New Scandal Consumes Trump As His Own Lawyer Warned Him Not To Sign Financial Disclosure Form

Congress should be demanding Trump’s tax returns after it was reported that Trump’s own lawyers warned him not to sign updated financial disclosure forms.

The AP reported, “Donald Trump’s attorneys originally wanted him to submit an updated financial disclosure without certifying the information as true, according to correspondence with the Office of Government Ethics. Attorney Sheri Dillon said she saw no need for Trump to sign his 2016 personal financial disclosure because he is filing voluntarily this year. But OGE director Walter Shaub said his office would only work with Dillon if she agreed to follow the typical process of having Trump make the certification. That is standard practice for the thousands of financial disclosure forms OGE processes each year.”

The reason why Trump’s lawyers warned him against signing a certified financial disclosure form is obvious. The information on the form isn’t true. It is likely that what Trump legally certified as true on the disclosure forms doesn’t match up with what is on his tax returns.

The President likely placed himself in legal jeopardy by certifying information as true on a financial disclosure form that is false.

The only way to find out the truth is for Congress to obtain Trump’s tax returns. Republicans in Congress have been blocking all efforts to get Trump’s tax returns, but the circumstantial evidence is mounting that there is something in there that the President is trying to hide.

Of the many reasons to elect a Democratic House or Congress in 2018, one of the best is that a Democratic House will compel Trump to release his tax returns. If Trump’s own lawyer warned him not to sign a certified financial disclosure form, it’s a red flag that can’t be ignored.
