Trump said, “I am disappointed in the Attorney General. He should not have recused himself almost immediately after he took office, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me prior to taking office, and I would have quite simply picked somebody else, so I think that’s a bad thing not for the president, but for the presidency. I think it’s unfair to the presidency, and that’s the way I feel.”
The President Of The United States admitted that his prerequisite for selecting an attorney general nominee was to choose someone who would kill the Russia investigation. This means that Trump knew before he ever took office that he was in legal jeopardy and that the Russia investigation had to go away.
The real reason why Donald Trump is mad at Jeff Sessions is that Sessions didn’t fix Trump’s Russia problem.
Trump’s answer about Jeff Sessions was revealing in all of the wrong ways. Trump knew he had a Russia problem before he set foot in the Oval Office. The President just admitted that he knows a lot more than what has been publicly disclosed about Russia.
Each Trump tweet and statement puts another crack in the wall of plausible deniability that Trump’s lawyers are trying to build for him. The old Watergate questions of what did the President know, and when did he know it, are more relevant than ever.
The President thought that Jeff Sessions could make his Russia collusion problem go away, and as the investigation gets closer to Trump and his family, he is taking out his wrath on the Attorney General.
