The Trump White House is defending their transgender military ban as a move that will put Democrats on the defensive in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. However, Democrats are welcoming the debate and can’t wait to discuss the issue.
Jonathan Swan of Axios tweeted the White House’s rationale:
Just spoke to a Trump administration official about the transgender military decision. Here's what they said… pic.twitter.com/eOWdvlxTfd

Meredith Kelly of the DCCC responded to the White House, “President Trump’s attack on Americans who want to step up and make incredible sacrifice to serve our country is disgusting, and it’s made worse by the political calculation behind it. Every Republican should speak out against it. President Trump is a draft dodger and if he wants to talk about 2018, we’ve got dozens of veteran candidates who have already shown what it looks like to step up and serve our country to keep us safe, and are ready to do it again in Congress.”
Democrats have already won this fight once. They will be ecstatic to fight the culture war again because this time the vast majority of Americans are on their side. Whether it is health care or the transgender military ban, the Trump White House keeps handing issues to Democrats that they will use to beat them in 2018.
