Less than a day after he called for national unity on condemning racism and bigotry, Donald Trump went birther on Obama by proclaiming that the US really is his home.
Trump tweeted:
Feels good to be home after seven months, but the White House is very special, there is no place like it… and the U.S. is really my home!

This was the rare dual purpose clean up tweet by Trump, who complimented the White House after it was reported that he called it a dump while talking to members at one of his golf clubs, and he also sent a clear message to his racist supporters that he didn’t mean all that talk about condemning racism, bigotry, and violence.
There is no bigger dog whistle to his supporters that referencing Obama birtherism. The remark about the US really being his home was intended to soothe his supporters who might have thought that he changed. Trump is still the same man who has openly courted the support of white supremacists and Nazis.
Donald Trump hasn’t changed one bit since his birther attack on President Obama. Trump is still riding the same gravy train of a small base of extremist support, along with plenty of help from Russia, which is why nobody bought his insincere statement on Charlottesville.
Trump sent the message that he is still with the racists, and he played the Obama birther card to prove it.
