The Los Angeles suburb of Laguna Beach bracing for a showdown on Sunday as an anti-illegal immigration rally will face counter-demonstrators.

One demonstrator said, ‘I marched in the 60s, and I never thought I’d be, forty years later, doing this again.’

The face-off comes after tens of thousands marched in Boston Saturday to protest against a small rally featuring far-right speakers.

All this against the backdrop of the deadly clashes last week, when white supremacists faced off against anti-racist demonstrators in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Much of the outrage focused on the response of U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed ‘there were many fine people’ among the neo-Nazis marching in Charlottesville. He also said responsibility for the violence lay with both sides.

Backlash against the president’s comments appearing to tail him now for a second week. Trump is planning to hold a rally for his supporters in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday.

The mayor of Phoenix urging the president to delay the event, warning his visit will ‘inflame emotions and further divide the nation.’

Many of the thousands who marched on Saturday condemned the president, but Trump tweeted praise for their activism, saying they were helping to heal the country.
