Lawrence O’Donnell Rips Trump For Using Hurricane Harvey Tragedy To Sell Hats

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell called the nation’s attention to the fact that while people are dying in Houston, Donald Trump used the tragedy of Hurricane Harvey to sell hats.

Video:

O’Donnell said, “If you think the President was undignified, then you might also want to think about what the President was wearing. That hat is for sale on a Trump website, so the President used today’s hurricane coverage to promote Trump merchandise. Just like he uses the presidency every day to promote all things Trump that have a price tag on them hotel rooms, restaurants, golf courses. That hat is for sale on the President’s campaign website. The forty dollars that you send to the campaign to buy that hat will be used to pay for some of the costs of Donald Trump’s next rally, or it can be used to pay for Donald Trump’s criminal defense lawyers who are representing him in the special prosecutor’s investigation.”

Trump has been using all of the hurricane coverage to sell hats. He made sure that he was photographed on both Saturday and Sunday wearing hats that are for sale on his website.

When Trump left for Texas on Tuesday morning, he was sure to have a hat with him, but not to wear it, because he didn’t want to damage the merchandise before the TV cameras were on him.

Donald Trump didn’t touch a single hurricane survivor on his trip to Texas. There were no hugs or reassuring words of empathy. Trump went to Texas to brag about his crowd size and sell hats.

Trump is treating the presidency like a four-year infomercial, where his primary goal is not to govern but to get richer by moving as much Trump merchandise as possible.
