Joe Biden’s daughter said in an interview that the former vice president is considering a 2020 run against Donald Trump.

Biden’s daughter Ashley told Women’s Wear Daily:
“I hope so. He’s busier truly than ever. Right now his focus is on the [Biden] Foundation and Cancer Moonshot, as well as getting other Democrats elected. He’s not there. He’s taking it day by day after the loss of my dear beloved brother [Beau who died in 2015]…He’ll make a decision when that time comes,†she said. “It’s a little ways away. A lot can happen in four years and we know this as a family. If he is in good health, knock on wood, and seeing what the landscape is at the time, yeah, I think he is considering it.â€

“I do believe if he is in good health…He is more vivacious and has more energy in his 70s than I do in my 30s. The man is sort of supercharged. So I think, if we get to that [decision] point, yeah, I think he will do it,†Biden said. “But a lot can happen in three years. You just don’t know. Life happens. God willing we’re healthy and strong and we go for it. You just never know.â€

Former Vice President Biden would present several problems for Donald Trump if he were the 2020 nominee. Biden is beloved by the Democratic Party. It is not difficult to imagine the party unifying behind him quickly. It is rumored that when Biden was considering running in 2016, he had Sen. Elizabeth Warren in mind as his running mate. A Biden/Warren ticket would bring all parts of the left together under one big tent.

The former vice president has the blue collar and middle-class sensibilities that Trump sells but doesn’t really believe in. A Biden nomination would bring former President Barack Obama back into national politics, and reenergize the Obama coalition in a way that has been missing in the Democratic Party since 2012.

The downside of a Biden run is that he is not a fresh face, and his age would be used against him by Trump and the GOP.

Any Democrat worth their salt should be lining up to run in 2020. Trump is viewed as weak and beatable. The primary field could be very crowded on the Democratic side, but if Joe Biden runs, he will have a built in level of support from Democratic primary voters that few other candidates will be able to match.

Joe Biden could cause a world of headaches for Donald Trump.
