The House Republican Passed 20 Week National Abortion Ban Is Already Dead In The Senate

Senate Republicans are admitting that they are in no hurry to schedule a vote because the House passed national 20-week abortion ban is DOA in the Senate.

Politico reported, “Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday will reintroduce his bill to ban abortions nationwide after 20 weeks of pregnancy, which failed on the Senate floor two years ago, 54-42. It’s sure to fail again if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell brings it up.”

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hasn’t scheduled a vote as Graham described the Republican thinking as we’ll get around to holding a vote sometime, which means that the bill has no chance of passage and Republicans are in no hurry to notch up another failure. Trump is sure to explode with rage because he is itching to sign the ban, but he can’t because the bill doesn’t have 60 votes, which means that Democrats are certain to block it in the Senate.

Trump wants the legislative filibuster killed. Republicans won’t end the filibuster because they know that someday the shoe will be on the other foot, and they’ll be in the minority.

The big point for American women and men who care about the right to choose is that this bill is going nowhere. Another Republican show vote in the House will only result in more failure and no accomplishments for Trump and Senate Republicans.
