Trump Screws Himself As Shutdown Denies Farmers Trade War Aid

Trump shutdown the government, and now farmers who were expecting government aid to deal with the president’s trade war aren’t going to get it.

The AP reported:
The USDA in a statement issued last week assured farmers that checks would continue to go out during the first week of the shutdown. But direct payments for farmers who haven’t certified production, as well as farm loans and disaster assistance programs, will be put on hold beginning next week, and won’t start up again until the government reopens.

There is little chance of the government shutdown ending soon. Trump and Congress are no closer to reaching a deal over his demand for border wall funding, and both sides say the impasse could drag well into January.

Trump’s bad decisions keep harming the American people, but farmers are about to take a double whammy. Trump began the trade war because he thought that it would be good politics for him, but when farmers began to be hurt, the president promised government checks to ease their pain. However, due to Trump’s decision to shut down the government, the checks are about to stop, because Trump would rather harm farmers than have a come to Jesus moment about his border wall never happening.
