McCabe Bombshell: No GOP Senators Objected to 2017 Trump FBI Probe

Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe dropped a major bombshell today when he claimed that the FBI told a bipartisan group of lawmakers in 2017 that it had opened an investigation into President Donald Trump — and none of the Republicans in the group objected.

In an interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, on Tuesday’s “Today Show†McCabe said that the FBI told the bipartisan “Gang of 8†senators who receive regular briefings on classified information that the bureau was launching an investigation into Trump’s behavior after the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

“No one objected,†McCabe said of the senators’ reactions. “Not on legal grounds, not on constitutional grounds, and not based on the facts.â€

McCabe also told NBC‘s Guthrie that Donald Trump‘s public attacks have been a terrible and horrifying experience for both him and his family.

“It’s been horrific to endure the threats and taunts of the president in such a public way,” McCabe said. “It’s been incredibly tough on my family.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked McCabe on Twitter after he interviewed with CBS’s “60 Minutes.” Trump called McCabe “a big part of the Crooked Hillary Scandal & the Russia Hoax — a puppet for Leakin’ James Comey.”

Trump continued to tweet about McCabe all throughout the holiday weekend.

“Remember this, Andrew McCabe didn’t go to the bathroom without the approval of Leakin’ James Comey!” he posted Monday night.

Then he added a tweet accusing McCabe of committing treason:

“The biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in our history, and it’s much worse than we thought. Andrew McCabe (FBI) admitted to plotting a coup (government overthrow) when he was serving in the FBI, before he was fired for lying & leaking.†Treason!”

Speaking with NBC, McCabe said, “No one really takes the president’s tweets seriously.” The former FBI official added that Trump has been “lying” about the former top FBI official and his family for years.

McCabe also said he was looking forward to testifying under oath before congressional committees to tell the truth about what really happened and to counter Trump‘s lies.
