Trump Is Threatening His Own Accountants
Trump attorneys William S. Consovoy and Stefan Passantino are urging Mazars USA not to comply with a subpoena that Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) plans to issue on Monday for Trump’s financial documents, calling it a politically motivated scheme to take down the president.
“It is no secret that the Democrat Party has decided to use its new House majority to launch a flood of investigations into the president’s personal affairs in hopes of using anything they can find to damage him politically,†Consovoy and Passantino wrote to Jerry D. Bernstein, Mazars’ outside counsel.

The attorneys said they were formally putting Mazars â€on notice†— an implicit threat of legal action. They also urged Bernstein to hold off on providing the documents to Cummings until the subpoena can be litigated in court, suggesting that a protracted legal battle is likely to ensue.
Trump is trying to tie up the demand for his tax returns in court
The game for Trump remains the same. The president is trying to delay the turn over of his tax returns until after the 2020 election. Trump is hoping that he wins a second term, and Republicans take back the House while keeping the Senate so that the demand for his tax returns will go away beneath four more years of Republican congressional cover-ups.
The White House has yet to offer a reason that will stand up in court that will prevent House investigators from getting his tax returns. Trump’s tax returns tie into numerous House investigations involving the Ways and Means Committee, the Oversight Committee, and the Intelligence Committee. The Ways and Means Committee aren’t allowing Trump to waste time, as they are accelerating toward legal action to compel the IRS to turn over the president’s tax returns.
Trump is using all of his old tricks to bluster and threaten, but the House knows his game and isn’t going to let him skate on turning over his tax returns.
