4 Red State Senate Democrats Put The NRA Ahead of the Dead Children of Sandy Hook
By: Jason EasleyApr. 17th, 2013more from Jason Easley
Four red state Democrats caved to the NRA on expanded background checks, as Sandy Hook parents watched from the Senate gallery.
The final vote was 54-46 in favor of the bill, with Majority Leader Harry Reid switching his vote to no for procedural reasons. Reid is actually a yes, so the number of supporters for the bill was 55. Four Republicans joined the majority of Democrats in opposing the NRA. Republican Senators Collins, Kirk, McCain, and Toomey all voted for the bill.
The reason why the vote wasn’t even close was that Sens. Pryor, Baucus, Begich, and Heitkamp caved to the NRA and voted no. Before we discuss the cowards that put their own political futures ahead of dead children, let’s take a second to give a special mention to red state Democrat Mary Landrieu who did the right thing and voted yes. Sen. Landrieu is facing a tough reelection campaign next year in Louisiana, but she stood up and put her country first.
When Democrat senators who are seeking reelection approach with their hands out in 2014, Sen. Landrieu might be worth giving your support to.
It doesn’t matter that 90% of the public supports the bill. It doesn’t matter that a majority of the U.S. Senate supported the bill. It didn’t even matter to these four red state Democrats that Sandy Hook parents were in the Senate gallery watching the vote. Baucus, Begich, and Pryor are all up for reelection next year, so Sandy Hook parents be damned, they were siding with the NRA.
What these four Democrats did was a shameful act that deserves scorn. With four additional Democratic votes the bill still would have been one vote short, but without them, it had no chance of passing. Background check supporters may have been able to find one more yes vote, but there was no way that they could’ve found five.
The American people don’t matter, dead children don’t matter, all that mattered to three Democrats who are up for reelection was winning next November.
Sens. Pryor, Baucus, Begich, and Heitkamp showed what really matters to them, but men and women who lack the courage to do what is right when their country needs them most do not deserve your support.

and tonight, insane Wayne will be bragging about how he owns the Democrats. He owns the Congress and he now owns the people of the United States through their proxy the Congress.
these four Democrats and a bunch of Republicans voted against the 82 people that die daily of gun violence. They voted against kids dying and they voted against Americans dying.
They voted with the 32% of Americans who own firearms, some of whom are for background checks. They voted against a minimum of 80% of the people. And they are comfortable with that.
I don’t care what anyone says, it’s time to sweep the Congress completely clean. No one stays, all new people and they should be gone before they can get a rating by the NRA or a vacation villa from the corporations and the Koch brothers

I agree w/everything you said..until you said ALL Democrats should go! Not at all, imo! I am a C-Span junkie (All 3 channels)..detest MSM..and I’m here to tell you, there are Democrats who fight an uphill battle, push bills that the right won’t allow on the floor for votes. Vote YES when it serves us,NO when it doesn’t. It’s the usually the LEADERS blowing it up! On a daily basis!
THE House Democrats came to work while the lazy gop vacationed (and when don’t they now?). If you watched, you may change the ALL to the #Red States and Bluedog Dems, who may as well call themselves republicans! There are more than a few, who aren’t just in it for the ALEC money. Which is why so few get the BIG contributions..just the elite group are members of the exclusive Max Baucus Gang.Remember Evan Bayh? Now lobbying,I think. HE was a part of the gang! Democracy is as dead as the Sandy hook massacre victims when it takes 60 votes to pass legislation. Obviously, Wayne La Pierre and Ted Nugent own the Senate, and the NRA and 8% of the American people control this pathetic nation. The Democrats who vote against background checks when 92% of the population supports them serve the likes of Nugent and La Pierre, not the people. What a country.

How did they stand up for the constitution? That document says nothing about background checks. This bill tyook no ones guns nor banned assault weapons like a real bill would have. This just closed the loopholes, and here you are, making a fool of the constitution

Let us not forget that gun restriction laws are moving fowards at the state level, and that is where we need to focus our efforts. Did we really expect this dysfunctional congress to accomplish anything? About all they have been able to do is force austerity measures on us and hoping we would not notice since they called it sequester; we noticed.

Yeah, these rotten Senators put individual liberty and the Second Amendment ahead of the hysterical whining of the far communist left who feel that majority opinion should simply override the Bill of Rights whenever a media-generated “crisis” tugs at their heartstrings. What truly rotten scum these senators, and gun owners, and gun rights groups really are!

They stood up for the Constitution by not allowing semi-automatic guns to be outlawed. You know the whole banning of guns that is unconstitutional. High time the Congress follows what the Constitution says.

djchefron,
“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. You understand English right? Have you even read anything written by the founders? I love what Jefferson had to say about this. “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” Seems pretty simple to me. NOW again do tell where in the constitution banning guns is allowed!
djchefron(Moderator)
Apr. 17th, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Then why did congress regulate machine guns and the Supreme court upheld that you can regulate arms?
Shiva
Apr. 17th, 2013 at 9:53 pm
Yawn. The supreme court says that only applies to pistols shotguns and rifles. Not assault rifles.
You do need to catch up. You dont make the laws or interpret the constitution.
Ronde

Love how the reply button disappeared from you comment. No you cannot regulate guns according to the Constitution, SCOUTS got it wrong. You can regulate people. As a free person under common law, which our Constitution is based on, the government cannot outlaw guns, free speech, the right of assembly, as well as the rest of the “Bill of Rights”. I would have thought somebody would have taught you this by now.

Thinking that SCOTUS is the final judge on these matters is weak thinking at best. The rights enshrined in the Constitution are what holds this country together. To think that this generation cares so little about what has been given them is more disconcerting. We live in a civilized society, bound by 1 founding document, yet you would think no one has taken the time to read what the founders themselves have said, whilst they were writing it. A step better, that may give you more insight into this would be to look at the real document that started this country. The Declaration of Independence. For you to decry parts of the Constitution because it doesn’t fit you or your simplistic view of the world, is well laughable at best.
Shiva

That means YOU are the one ” decry parts of the Constitution because it doesn’t fit you or your simplistic view of the world, ”

How convenient of you to ignore the precursor clause of the Second Amendment “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State…” Read the summary of US v. Miller (1939) www.law.cornell.edu/annco... where the Supreme Court defined a militia as a body of “civilians primarily, soldiers on occasion…acting in concert for the common defense,” who “when called for service…were expected to appear bearing arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time” that States could rely for defense and securing of the laws.
As a result, the Court outlawed a ‘shotgun having a barrel of less than 18 inches in length’ due to its irrelevance to the preservation of a well–regulated militia. Just as significant, the 1700s dearth of communication and transportation made the citizen soldier essential to support the common defense. The value of placing unlimited firepower in everyone’s hands was far less obvious to the common…

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
Now,are YOU a well regulated militia? No? Then you’re set to make the mistake of “infringing” on our MILITIA’s DUTY to keep us secure. Good luck w/that!

Its all right we all for it to kill the future generations, that’s what it says. Those kids are tomorrow’s leaders. Some of our older people don’t want to see to save those future generation. Second amendment is amended because England banning of American owning of Guns. American owning of guns will interfere with their governing and control of America. It is the war strategy. It is the way of saying English no to their governing. This amendment required then not anymore. So don’t pull second amendment all the time. Owning guns have provided and facilitated lot of suicide, homicide and mass murder. It is time to re-amend the second amendment and be civil about it. Thank you.
