Fox News Denies Sending Glenn Beck on a Forced Vacation
TVNewser is reporting that Fox News has sent Glenn Beck on a forced vacation this week in an attempt to take some of the heat off of the host he has seen almost two dozen advertisers leave his show. Rumor has it that Beck himself was telling people that FNC forced him to take the week off. The network and Beck’s publicist have denied the report.
TVNewser posted, “Tipsters inside Fox News tell us Glenn Beck’s vacation this week from his Fox News show was not planned. We hear Beck was told to take this week off to let some of the heat surrounding him die down.” The heat was caused by Beck’s charge that President Obama is a racist. This claim resulted in the group Color of Change applying pressure on Beck’s advertisers to drop him.
Although it would not be unusual for a talk show host to go on vacation during the slow days of August, it is ironic and a bit suspicious that Beck goes on vacation after Wal-Mart dropped their advertising from his show. This kind of successful advertiser boycott is highly unusual for Fox News. The network is used to activists protesting them, but there has never been a pressure campaign against advertisers that has had this type of impact.
Glenn Beck pulls some of the biggest ratings in cable news, so he is not going anywhere, but if the brass at FNC needed time to let things cool down and devise a counter strategy, so sending Beck in vacation makes a lot of sense. Of course, Fox News is going to deny sending Beck on vacation, because they don’t want to admit that the Color of Change campaign is having an impact.
Beck’s publicist, Matthew Hiltzik, called the story bogus, “It’s sad and disappointing that despite denials from all parties involved — Fox and Glenn — and with objective proof that plans were made months ago, that someone continues to peddle this completely bogus story.” Beck’s people can deny it, but their story doesn’t quite pass the smell test. If this was a planned vacation, it could not have come at a better time for Beck and FNC.

This vacation was planned and if anyone here watched the show they’d know that because he has talked about it quite some time ago.

And I believe that Fox was still very happy to see him away from the cameras while the boycott pressure has been ramping up.
It will make it all the more interesting to see if its business as ususal come Monday…or not.

Full text:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Simplified version:
“Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”
What it does NOT say:
“FOX News, Wal-Mart, boycotters and otherwise rational intelligent people… shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”
So you see, no one’s rights are being violated. Someone IS reaping what he has sown, however.
The Almighty Free Market has spoken.

Really? Censoring apparent reality? Hmmm, sounds like Beck shouldn’t have left MSNBC. Oh wait, he doesn’t have the credo (see cretino) of say, tingly legged Matthews, or MooU Olbermann. Wow, the US Pravda pseudomedia is so FAR OFF BASE. The presumptions and inglorious self edifications they give themselves is as laughable as a noel coward play. If fact, gosh, thats a great idea, a play about hmm, noncredible non integrity cretins posing as ‘objective ‘ journalists. ha ha ha! They are as credidible and respected as Pelosi. Maybe less. Hope they take their presumptious schtick, and out of touch newspapers and liberal media and hie themselves off to Russia, or Libya where they would feel right at home. Doublespeak really lives there.

Is it censorship if the group organizing the boycott is using taxpayer (stimulus) funds to do so? What if the group is funded by the government to silence the administration’s critics?
Evil doesn’t anounce itself. It sneeks in while good people stand by and watch.

Whether or not Glenn Beck was forced to take a leave of absence or not, the comments that brought it all about were on the mark. Just look at the Dr. Gates incident. Obama himself stated that the police should have acted differently because Dr. Gates is a black man. He cited the fact that people of color have been mistreated by law enforcement in the past as the reason for his comment. That in and of itself would categorize him as a racist. Being a racist does NOT mean that you wish harm to members of other races. It means that you give preference to one race over another.

It’s the “dead fish” media that reaps with an odor that is choking everyone who has any principles or morals whatsoever in this country. When a news person tries to report accurate as well as proven information to the public, writers, in our now so-called media, get defensive and try to portray the person as a some dark mysterious nutcase.

Reporting the news now-a-days is finding someone other than a fascist to pick on as opposed to the actual news. That is called bullying where I came from, and you know what they say about bullies.

Is this more ACORN paranoia? Or are you claiming that Color of Change received stimulus money for the purpose of boycotting FOX news?
I am not aware of the Color of Change receiving stimulus money, but if you can show me they did, before this accusation sticks, you also have to show me that they did NOT use the stimulus money for the stipulated purpose they received it.
If they in fact appropriately used received money they are perfectly free to use other funds for whatever purposes are consistent with their organization’s goals. Without it being an abuse of stimulus money.
Organizations ARE required by a variety of local, state, and federal laws to use money for specific purposes. That does NOT preclude their use of OTHER funds, acquired for EITHER general or specific other purposes, for something else; something which I am disappointed to see is not well understood.
I’m guessing you have never been the treasurer of an NGO / not for profit organization, or party to the mandated internal audit of one. I have, including one instance where such an internal audit revealed embezzlement. THAT little adventure in learning about accounting was particularly instructive.
This kind of fear mongering ignorant unsupported accusation is intolerable.
If you have actual proof, not rumor, not innuendo, not guesses, I invite you to post tht proof here for validation. And I strongly encourage you to take that proof (which i am skeptical you have) to the appropriate local, state or federal attorneys for prowsecution.
I’m guessing that you are going to get laughed out of someone’s office, but hey, if not, you would be doing a good thing.

Yes Glenn Beck and Fox News are free to say what they want. Advertisers are also able to place their adds where they want, they choose not to do it on a hate filled program.

Glenn speaks for a growing majority of Americans. He does tend to hype up his show and views but in reality the viewers at home understand the message. Apparently the “color of change” stands for free speach only for minorities, otherwise they would not be boycotting Glenn Becks advertisers. Maybe we need to boycott the corporate sponsors of hate group La Raza.

I watch Fox because it is akin to watching a train heading for a cliff at full speed. The impact will be horrific. Glenn Beck is in the drivers seat. Can’t wait to see the carnage. I think Fox has a death wish.

Glenn Beck IS a pussy. His voice is irritating, his comments are irritating, his views are warped, and like you said, “when the lights come on, he scrambles like a cock roach”. If anyone opened his closet, they would find some interesting skeletons..
Glenn Beck will reap what he sows

What will be interesting is to see if there is a falling off of the objections to Beck over the course of a week.
IF it is the case that this was an unplanned vacation, then someone is assuming an awfully short memory for people who were motivated enough to endorse boycotts. I don’t think that is nearly long enough for this to blow over or even substantially subside. Less so if Beck, for whatever reason his absence, receives the attention of competing media.
Now, if Beck’s one week vacation extends to two or even several days more, that would be interesting. I wonder how low the heat has to go before Fox is willing to continue with Beck’s antics?

They claim he will be back on Monday, but if the heat is still there does Beck take another “vacation” in September? Maybe. Beck draws an anywhere between 1.7 and 2.3 million viewers a night. Until those numbers decline, Beck has full job security.

Censorship is by definition prior restraint. Beck has run into trouble AFTER he made statements.
No one is locking him up in jail to prevent him from making more stupid statements. Fox, as the business that employs him is free to decide if they want him talking stupidly on their behalf – or not.
Beck is perfectly free and UNcensored to say whatever he wants on his own, that is freedom of speech.
Not censorship; just free enterprise.

If you mean that FNC is censoring Beck, then you are correct, but the boycott itself is not censoring Beck, and only an idiot would think so. Beck still has his show, and he is free to say whatever he wants. If Fox wants to censor Beck, like they have done with O’Reilly that’s their problem. In fact, FNC is going out of their way to stress that the boycott is not hurting their revenues. Advertisers are not obligated to spend their dollars on Beck’s show. They have the right to take their money elsewhere if they don’t like the show.

Guess that quote is a good indication that neither Beck nor Fox are trustworthy, despite marketing to the contrary.
