Obama Squashes The GOP ACORN Smear
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama took a break from preparing for the third presidential debate tomorrow night to explain that he is not involved with the voter registration group ACORN, “We’ve got the best voter registration and turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now and we don’t need ACORN’s help.”
As reported by The Trail, Obama said, “”My relationship to ACORN is pretty straightforward. It’s probably 13 years ago when I was still practicing law, I represented ACORN and my partner in that representation was the U.S. Justice Department in having Illinois implement what was called the “motor voter” law, to make sure that people could go to DMVs and driver’s license facilities to get registered. It wasn’t being implemented. That was my relationship, and is my relationship to ACORN.”
Obama said that ACORN was victimized by hiring people who didn‘t go out and register voters, “Having run a voter registration drive, I know how problems arise. This is typically a situation where ACORN probably paid people to get registrations and these folks, not wanting to actually register people because that’s actually hard work, just went into a phone book or made up names and submitted false registrations to get paid. So there’s been fraud perpetrated probably on ACORN if they paid these individuals and they actually didn’t do registrations.”
Obama said that is a distraction that must not be used to suppress the vote, “So this is another one of these distractions that gets stirred up in the course of a campaign. But what I want to make sure of is that this is not used as an excuse for the kind of voter suppression strategies and tactics that we’ve seen in the past. Let’s just make sure everybody is voting, everybody’s registered. Let’s make sure that everybody’s doing it in a lawful way.”
Voter registration drives are very hard work, and some people are hired or get paid a bonus based on the number of people that they register. In almost every election cycle, there are always some employees of voter registration organizations that try to cheat the system. Republicans are desperate, and are trying to link Obama to anything and everything. It is funny how Republicans fail to mention that McCain spoke in front of the group in 2006, and actually has a more recent personal connection than Obama does. I don’t believe that there is any kind of real scandal here. This is another sad attempt by the Republicans to try to stop Obama.

so acorn was victimized. they don’t know who they hire? what a joke!! they know actually who they hire and why. get the results they want voter fraud then claim well you just can’t control who you are hiring. wouldn’t you think people that are registering others to vote should have some intergrity?? not a bunch bums off the street.

If anyone is worried about an October surprise I’m sure it’s McShame. He’s sweating bullets on what other unethical or corrupt things Sarah has been up to. Why did Senator Obama sate and publish on his web site, which was removed tis week, he had little association with Acorn? Later he said he did not work or ever conducted training to Acorn and now we all know he did represent Acorn in court, did conduct register enrollment training for Acorn, in his campaign spending filings he listed $800,000 to sound and production quipment and then last week resubmitted it as the money going to Acorns arm, to register voters? My concern is his initil statements on everything Ayers, Acorn, Rev Wright, Rensa (the one who helped him buy his home), Fannie Mae and Freddie all change once people start to dig into what he has stated? This is critical to know who he associates with and why he does not give the full answer when first asked? This shows a person’s character, which meanes, what do you do when no one is watching. Please do not turn a blind eye on these.
Did you know 40 -48% of Americans do not pay taxes? How can then give 95% a tax break? Did you know he plans to remove the cap on FICA taxes? Currently you pay 7% income on your first $105,000, so if one makes $200,000 didn’t they just get a 7% tax increase?
If you take 15%, up to $10,000, out of your 401K or IRA he wants to take away the 10% penalty. Please understand what you would be doing, you would be selling yourr stocks or mutual funds they are invested at a time when they have been hit with a severe stock market loss and then you pay taxes on the $10,000 on ordinary income. You could possibly be taking a 50% or higher loss and not benefit once the stock market rises?
Please fully look into all candidates promises and see if it mirrors how they voted in the past or does it make logical sense? Also with his past associations ask yourself the question could he qualify to be a FBI, Secret Service, or CIA agent? Aren’t these the people who protect the President and his/her family?

Oh, my goodness! My heart bleeds for those who make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year! They might have to pay FICA on their entire income, just like the rest of us!
And to answer your question, no, they did not just get a 7% tax increase. If they were making $200,000 and were paying 7% taxes on only the first $105,000, then they were paying only 3.675% on the total. So they got a 3.325% increase on the total. Which, once again, makes them just like the rest of us.

OK, so if Obama doesn’t need ACORN, why not just tell ACORN that none of the 1.5 million registrations that they submitted are valid. I think if Obama said this wouldn’t ACORN respect this? After all, he is their candidate of choice, right? He feels he can win without this, right? So clear the air. Don’t count them. We all move on.

Obama didn’t have the website referred to above. It was removed because it fraudently linked him to them. He didn’t have anything to do with the sabotage set up by the Republicans tryint to again steal the votes they didn’t get and to cheat again. NO WAY DUMMY REPUBLICANS. Go back to the Pilgrim days and drop dead of the common cold. You are so common! Why is this all the President’s fault, are you silly enough to believe that all he has to do is say something and it happens? The fault also rests on the Democratically controlled Congress, they have to approve everything before the president even sees it so why is it all of a sudden his fault, and what leads you to believe that electing “Change” will actually change anything? Like the post before said, ask Carter what happens when government tries to control industry… complain about the gas prices now, just wait till you have to sit in line to pay those inflated prices. Pelosi is calling for an emergency session of Congress to meet immediately after the elections, only if Obama wins, to vote on legislation that would help middle America by infusing more money into infrastructure thus creating more jobs… if they really cared about middle America why aren’t they doing it now, why are they making it a post election issue, why are they holding us “hostage” to their demands? If Obama loses will they not do anything and let the country continue to flounder in recession are they going to dangle this in front of voters, like a carrott in front of an a$$ hoping to lead them to their desired destination… The White House???

That’s a pretty naive view of income. If they are already making 200k, they are paying taxes at a 33% clip, unlike the rest of us. Add the FICA pop and now they are at 37%. If you want to pay that on what you make, then you can make your argument. The reason they cap FICA is because the payouts you would recieve when you go to draw SS are consistent with what you donate and are capped. I’d love to have the problem of making 200K but I don’t. For me to expect them to pay more than thier fair share is unrealistic and is redistribution of wealth (not Joe Biden’s patriotism). I don’t like either candidate but I don’t think it’s fair to make the rich pay for the poor more than they already do. If you factor in the capital gains changes Obama proposes as well, you’ll find the rich people will put their money to sleep in bonds and mutual funds to avoid taxes. That slows down an economy that needs no more slowing. It’s consistent with the ‘increase corporate tax’ rhetoric. Who do you tink pays them? Business collects tax. Profit margins remain consistent, taxes are passed to the consumers. It’s one of he more ridiculous proposals out there. If I hear about big oil one more time, I’ll puke. Exxon made a record 19 Billion in profit and you want a windfall tax? Their profit margin is consistent per gallon of gas sold. They sell more gas they make more money. Taxes on the gas sold are percentages that grow with the price and the government already gets those. For that same period, Exxon paid 51 Billion in taxes. That’s roughly a quarter trillion dollars a year to Uncle Sam and he wants more? Gas prices will only go up if the tax increases. By the way, if you have a 401K through your employer, chances are pretty good they own oil stocks as part of a blended portfolio.
Do your homework. By the way, the Freddie and Fannie comments above were accurate.
