Goodbye Sarah, Troopergate Report Finds She Abused Her Authority
By: Guest ContributorOct. 10th, 2008more from Guest Contributor

The most damning quote from the report is,”Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda … to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired.”
I think it was clear that something was up with this report, after it took so long to release. If it didn’t contain anything bad for Palin you can believe that the McCain campaign would have been rushing to get it out into the news cycle today, but as the evening went on, the release of the report started to look more like a Friday night news dump. To say this news is devastating, is an understatement. It could be the final nail in the coffin for the McCain campaign.
The question is what does McCain do now? She has been a drag on the ticket for a month, and before this report was released some conservatives were calling for her removal. It is likely that the McCain campaign is going to call this investigation partisan, and try to move on, but if McCain wants to, this would be the perfect time to dump Palin. She is now toxic, and in no position to question the honesty and ethics of Barack Obama.
Sarah Palin has already demonstrated that she can’t be trusted to do news interviews alone. She survived the vice presidential debate with charm and talking points. Her lack of knowledge is embarrassing. Because of this, her popularity has plummeted to the point where she now has a negative approval rating, and she is a national joke. With the release of this report, she is such a huge liability to the campaign that it is difficult to see why they would keep her around.
McCain knew about this investigation before he chose her, so why did he do it? This development calls into question McCain’s judgment. Remember, that the committee that ruled that Sarah Palin violated an ethics law consisted of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Maybe McCain thought that this little investigation would go away, but instead it has doomed his campaign. McCain can now no longer question Obama’s honesty when his running mate lied to the people of Alaska. The GOP will try to dismiss this, but in the end, the McCain campaign is now on the defensive, and trying to play catch up, with an ethically challenged running mate, and no issues to run on.

I root for Obama, however being an Asian it would not have made a big difference to me if McCain was elected, that is until he choose Palin for VP. Being a women I did second his choice until Palin opened her mouth. I am stunned at McCains choice. He shot himself in the foot!

It’s amazing that you all believe what you read.Palin is guilty of using her power? Give me a break. It’s such a political move. It’s all stategy. We can go on and on how Obama is this and Obama is that, bottom line, he won’t win. The American people talk of change and when they go to vote they vote conservative. It’s an exciting time to in our voter’s history to have a woman and a black man running. It’s about time. But McCain will win. It’s only the media who continues to provide us with their opinions vs providing facts. Give us a break. I wish we could just have Obama and McCain start playing ball. Quit worrying about he said this, and he said that. What are you going to do? What is the solution? The real voters will read between the lines. Anyone in power from hiring to firing, if you are not liked for whatever reason, you’re doomed. How is this case different? Everyone from a banker president’s to our own bosses, for one reason or another will use personal judgement but this is too much.
This story is only fueled cuz it’s a woman in charge. Next! My vote is still so McCain and Palin. It takes more than that.

If you honestly believe that Sarah Palin is qualified to be Vice President, then you need to have your head examined. She knows nothing about any of the issues that are relevant to the Presidency, is completely dishonest, and uses her womanhood to push others around. Is this really what Americans need in a Vice President? Do we really need someone who stands on stage and winks when she does not know the answer to an important question such as foreign policy? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s amazing that you don’t hear what everyone else hears. Everytime that Palin opens her mouth she proves to all that she is a moron. Everytime she sounds like a moron she makes McCain LOOK like an idiot for picking her. My vote was up in the air. It had to be earned. I gave each candidate one hundred points and let them strip it down by what they had to say and how they handled themselves and the decisions that they made while on the campaign trail. They were running neck and neck until Palin was introduced. I have no problem with a woman in power so long as she has some degree of intelligence. She does not. Why do think McCain hides her away from the media? He’s afraid of her opening her mouth. She has done enough damage to his campaign as it is way before this troopergate thing came out. She was just a moron before, now she is a lying moron. Give me a break!!!

before you throw Sarah Palin under the bus, ask yourselves. If unprovoked a policeman in your community uses a stun gun on a 16 year old boy, would you not want them fired? If a policeman beat up your sister, would you not want them fired. If your tax dollars were paying disability wages to someone that you saw on a snowmobile, would you not think that if they were well enough to snowmobile, they didn’t need to be on disability?
I personally would be demanding the firing of any law enforcement officer that assaults any woman or child. There are very few communities that wouldn’t fire an officer for drinking beer in a patrol car. She is being accused of violating state ethice laws, yet there is no criminal investigation and they do not even recommend sanctions. To violate state ethice laws she has to have done something for personal gain. Where is the personal gain? I agree with Sen Gary Stevens, I think there is something wrong here.
If this police officer had not previously been a family member, and had done the things he did, without the governor wanting him fired all of you Democrats would be whining she’s soft on crime.
Before you rush to destroy Sarah Palin ask your selves how could you go to the same church for twenty years and not know that your pastor preached hate? How could you remain friends with someone who had bombed buildings?

I don’t even understand the connection that you are trying to mske between Rev. Wright, and the ethics violation that Sarah Palin committed as an elected official in her state. The problem is that Gov’s husband and family can not abuse their position to get someone fired without cause. The charges against her sister’s ex were investigated and he wasn’t fired, but this wasn’t enough for the Palins who tried to use her power to have him fired. If you don’t understand that this is wrong on so many levels then you probably don’t understand public sector ethics laws and why they exist.

And what do the people in Alaska think of their Governor after the conclusion of the investigative board? Are they still giving her an 80% approval rating? Did they know they got two for one when they elected her to run their state? Maybe people of Alaska have different standards then the rest of the country, knowing that Sarah and Todd were enjoying the Alaskan Independence Party who did not like the USA and wanted their own Alaka country.

It’s all well and good what her ex brother in law did or didn’t do. It was up to his immediate supervisors to have fired him. Since they did not she is in no position to force their hand to do so. That is abuse of power!! Why was he not fired before. Maybe the claims were unsubstantiated? I’m sure they must have done their own investigation into the claims. Beside that, do you really think she is qualified to be the vice president of the USA. I think the troopergate decision will help us all, dems and repubs as well. She does not need to be anywhere close to the president. If these findings help keep her out of office then we owe that panel a debt of gratitude because they may have saved us from a bigger embarassment than W ever brought us. She is an embarassment now, I can’t imagine how stupid she will come across to the world would she have been voted into office and was able to speak to the media without McCain having her sequestered. She sealed her fate when she opened her mouth, this was just the final nail in the coffin.

Facts. Obama consorted with Rezko, a criminal. Bought real estate together. Obama worked with Ayers (a radical bomber in the ’60s) on a foundation board where Obama disbursed funds from Ayers for kids, not to learn, but to learn to be political activists. Obama and his wife Michelle are friends with Louis Farrakhan and his wife. Obama sat in a church with Rev. Wright for 20 years and “ignored” the hate speech. Obama worked for ACORN and gives money from his campaign to fund ACORN, a group actively engaging in voter fraud. Obama is friends with Rashid Khalid a Palestinian extremist. That doesn’t even cover his policies which smack of socialism. God help us all.

This investigation started well before Palin was tapped for the VP slot. It was not partisan. The guy, Moneghan, who was fired or pushed out (like the librarian who answered “no” to the possibility of banning books), complained about his dismissal. The panel was had 2.5 x as many Republicans on it than Democrats. Palin doesn’t really have an 80% approval rating anymore. Now, you have to ask what kind of judgement McCain showed (if indeed she really was his choice, he probably wanted Ridge or Lieberman) picking her knowing she was under investigation. Perhaps McCain bet he could throw the long ball again and get by. I actually used to like McCain as a person; he had some admirable qualities; I don’t know who this guy is. He’s driven by blind ambition and will say anything to win. What’s that, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Also the term FOX NEWS is an oxymoron, so I don’t expect any information of value from them unless you listen to them and conclude the exact opposite of any information that they give.

I don’t read? Yes I read plenty of print news and that kangaroo panel you speak of had 10 repubs and only 4 dems. The kangaroo panel was actually stacked in her favor 2.5 to 1. I see that you signed in as a female, go figure. The blind blindly following the blinder. I have absolutely no problem with a woman being in power, as a matter of fact I think it would be a breath of fresh air. Palin, however, scares the hell out of me. Reading print news aside, have you ever listened to her being interviewed? She is a MORON!!! If you think she is anything more than that you are a bigger moron than she is. If you think that I’m a moron and I’m calling her a moron wouldn’t that put her at the bottom of the gene pool? That would mean that you are festering somewhere between. Good luck in life…you are sure going to need it.

A few more details people should know.
1. Palin has several enemies who are Repub. Remember she went in to office and cleaned out some of the dirty Repubs. The outcome was predetermined.
2. The Alaska AG has stated the investigation is not within the legal requirements and has no force. In fact, two of the people involved could be brought up on charges, but probably won’t be.
3. Her subordinate was fired for insubordination due to undermining her policies, not for failing to fire the trooper. But that wouldn’t get traction as a scandal against her so it’s not mentioned.
4. She has been under a microscope since she was selected by McCain. Obama couldn’t have survived the scrutiny she’s enduring. He has close friends who are proud bigots, felons, confessed and soon to be felons, unrepentant domestic terrorists, he had a hand in the current financial meltdown, and the list goes on.

.ABuse is radically different than use. McCain, who’s health is VERY questionable…including several Docs of Psych that are very suspicious of PTSD (pretty dodgy in a Prez)…meaning that it is highly likely that whomever is his running mate has a good chance of becoming prez (do you think she is qualified for THAT?) . Excatcly what Palin is after….blind ambition. Which means that at the end of the day, McCain won’t win….if the GOP wins, it’ll be Palin inside of a year who’ll be President of the United States. i’d bet my stocks on it. I didn’t think she was too bad as gov, if inept , better than other alaskan republicans. I lost ALL respect for her when she “didn’t hesitate”. That tells me that her desire for the postition is greater than her common sense. Not a good combo, when it comes to my life, your life, etc. that means she will consistently make decisions and choices based on her personal beliefs about the world. Now, i agree that alaska is pretty wonderful. However, it is a huge stretch to say that it will be the last hope for all during Armageddon, if you believe what she and her witch-hunting (literally) pastor would have you believe
ps…it’s not just reading….it’s about being here…on alaskan soil, when all this crap goes down…

So what if Sarah kills and eats animals in front of her children. Not so long ago, EVERYONE did. Most families raised their own animals and killed them for food. Many families in America STILL do. I butchered chickens and beef before I was a teenager. I went hunting with my dad before the age of 10. Maybe her ex in-law was part of the corruption she was trying to get rid of. Do you KNOW the rest of the story?

It is unfair to assume that Palin accurately represents Alaska. She may have once enjoyed an 80% approval rating…a long long time ago. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she is (WAS.. at the time of the poll) one of a very few AK Republicans (who tend to make the rest of republicans look like school girls…no offense to either) who wasn’t under investigation for something or another…fraud, abuse of power, stealing, lying, etc. i think if you check again, you will find that she now has an incredibly LOW approval rating.

OK, saying that you are one doesn’t make it so.
Fact check on fact checker. I have not seen anyone accuse Obama of being close friends with Louis Farrakhan. Can you give me at least one reputable source to back up this evidence.
Calling Khalid an extremist is a mischaracterisation. Khalid is a reknowned academic who has expressed concern over Israel’s policies towards Palestine, as many academics do. He’s only an extremist in the eyes of people who say Israel can do no wrong.
This idea that Obama knows somebody, therefore he is in the tank with them is rather frightening. I know a lot of people. I work in a corrupt city and some of the people I work with have been corrupt people. This idea that I am guilty by association is a scary prospect, and trust me it is not a standard that you want to apply to John McCain. If I went out and dug up everybody that McCain once worked with, he would be looking fairly sick right now.
But here’s the diffeence. This article talks about things that Sarah Palin DID, not people she KNEW.
It’s a big difference

I used to like Mc Cain but when he choose this woman over every other possible VP, I thought he was crazy.
I don’t trust a woman who can shoot a beautiful creature, skin it, while it is still semi alive, then hang its heads and skins all over the house. Something goes against my instinct.
Mc Cain has lost his credibility. Hearing Ms. Palin even talk is scary. They push for more oil (like the Bushes) don’t give a dang about the environment or global warming, and I doubt they have any feelings for human life. I don’t want this woman anywhere near a switch that could set off a nuclear bomb. She claims to be prolife. I doubt it.

Now that you have voted for Obama, your small, struggling business will likely be taxed to the point of extinction, and that money will be given to the “less fortunate” of tax payers. Obama calls this fair. Think about this the next time you vote.

I would have happily voted for McCain in 2000, but Bush’s dirty politics stole the nomination. McCain came away from that election a much different man – bitter, selfish and cynical. He has tried and said anything to become president. But everything he has done has made him someone I would never vote for. He has lied, he has embraced the radical religious vealots, and he even stooped to ask Sarah Palin as his running mate. She is by far the worst VP choice of all time – and this includes Dan Quayle. McCain used to be a great man. He has taken such a horrible turn that it is sad and pathetic to watch. You don’t always have to “win” but you always have to maintain you honor. In a poetic turn, McCain will do neither at the end of this election. Meanwhile, Palin will live out her political “career” giving speeches at state fairs and to white supremist groups. Obama may be a lot of things (socialist might actually apply) but he is no terrorist, Arab or traitor. To allow your fanbase to use such profane language is beyond cowardly. McCain should be remembered for his heroic survival of being a POW in Vietnam. Obama will be remembered for his heroic withstanding of moronic threats from people who disgraced our Constitution.

See what happens when people start believing the hype…. Nothing to hide…. Apparently she started to believe her own drivel…..

Bush will pardon her, right after he pardons himself, Cheney, Gonzo, Scooter, Rummy, Harriet Miers and Vladimir Putin. She has nothing to fear by an Alaskan moose rebellion and when she loses she’ll blame anyone and everyone else for costing her the election, dismissing the fact that she’s the least qualified candidate since ‘W” to ever seek high office.

I guess you just read the title of the article and missed a very important piece of information. The panel that reviewed this case consisted of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. THAT”S TEN REPUBLICANS

Wow. Frank says it all with his comments. I’m surprised though, because people who get half of their brains removed by surgery rarely ever possess enough faculties to post comments anymore.

What is very disgusting is that the article only reporting the part they wanted to. The other part confirms that Palin was in order and did not violate any laws by firing the Trooper. Nice website, obviously tells lies like the rest of you

While I do enjoy the international community reading the articles and commenting on them. I do have a problem with those who do not know what they are talking about. First if any knows about Alaskan politics knows it dirty and corrupt, Palin ran on an agent of change (sound familiar) and was going to rid Alaska of the unethical behavior that was so prevalent. Second, she herself said that she had nothing to hide, then went, and hid, showing just how unethical she really is. Third Frank the Republicans have ran more investigations than any other party save the Whigs (which is where the Republicans come from), so I do not see any relevant point in your comments. Ps your use of buggery gave you away. Cherry’O

I believe it became a job that an idiot holds, the day George W was elected Gov. of Texas!!
Don’t you want to see ETHICS restored to politics??
Do you understand what ethics is???
There is a big difference between legal and ethical…..yet BOTH are vitally important!!!
Ms Palin violated the ethics of the job ( and much more I’m sure!!)
You may accept someone who (ab)uses their power for their own gain..( and it doesn’t have to be monetary gain) … but we already have had 8 years of that.
PS… I don’t consider a “janitor” a low office employee…. I think of them as another human being!! That is the ETHICAL thing to do!!
