Rush Limbaugh Sticks the Knife In Colin Powell’s Back
Right wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh wasted little time sticking the knife in Colin Powell’s back after the general endorsed Barack Obama this morning. Limbaugh claimed in an email that, “Powell’s move was very much related to Obama’s status as the first African-American with a chance to become president.”
“Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race, OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with. I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making HIM a 4-star and Secretary of State AND appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let’s hear it for transformational figures.”
Gen. Powell spent a half an hour on national television on Sunday morning intelligently making the case for why he is endorsing Obama. He explained his problems with the direction that the Republican Party has taken the country in, and his doubts about the McCain/Palin ticket. For Limbaugh to minimize, not only Powell’s argument, but Powell himself, is deplorable. Gen. Powell is a man who is a true public servant. He has never ran for, or been elected to public office.
Powell made it expressly clear that his endorsement was not based on race, so for Limbaugh to say that it was is a flat out lie. Perhaps Rush is too high to understand this, but Powell endorsed Obama, because America doesn’t need four more years of a broken foreign policy. Maybe, he sees the military that he served for so long being stressed to the breaking point, and he thought, no more. Maybe, just maybe, he believes that Obama would be a better president than McCain.
I think Limbaugh is out there all alone on this one. I doubt that most Republicans would demean Powell’s career in this way. Limbaugh’s comments are just the latest example of how low the conservative movement has sunk in a desperate attempt to maintain their fragile grip on power. Limbaugh assumes that Powell owes the GOP, but he already gave them years of service, and his credibility when he spoke before the UN on the eve of the invasion of Iraq. What else does he owe them? I wish I could say that no one cares what Limbaugh says, but he will have millions of listeners agreeing with him and this delusional rant on his show tomorrow.

Why do people even listen to Rush? He states the most stupid things to the most stupid people. He has n’t any skills except running his fat stupid mouth. If you ask one of his Ditto Heads anything about the details of what they believe, you find out they know nothing outside what they are being fed by Rush. He speaks to people that are fearful that their all white, man only world is going to be changed. They believe that since they don’t have the skills to compete in the modern world, that they need to keep everyone else down as well.

I love how you leftists spin the tale. Let me get this straight…Colin Powell got all his political appointments from three GOP Presidents — Reagan, Bush 41 and 43. Apart from that, his son was appointed Chairman of the FCC by a GOP President. Rush (no mattter you agree with him or not) raised a very pertinent question — would Sec Powell have endorsed Sen Obama if he were white, liberal & in expereinced? He did not say that Powell was a racist (as is being spun by you leftists) but he is questioning Powell’s endorsement of a candidate whose views are radically different from his own. Then, why, pray, did Sec Powell endorse Sen Obama? If Powell endorsed Obama because he is black, then he should have been honest about it and said so…..that it would have huge implications to see a black President. But please be honest about it. Rush Limbaugh was absolutely right.

Did you watch the long explanation of his choice? You think he was lying about all that? That’s fine if you do, but the idea that he’s voting for Obama based on race, despite the fact that he took about 7 minutes to explain it is kind of…stupid.
Yes, he would have endorsed Obama if he was white. Mccain has fucked up his campaign, and the Right is moving farther and farther from the center. Many Republicans are noticing this, and I don’t know why some are so scared to realize this.
Also, it’s cute that you think Powell owes soemthing to the Republican party. I don’t’ care if Mccain saved my first born triplets from a burning building, that doesn’t mean I owe him a vote.

I would love for someone to say ask Rush Limbaugh, “Is it true that the only reason you’re voting for John McCain is because he’s white?” Of course he’ll feel that is ridiculous, but it’s just as ridiculous for him to say that Colin Powell is only voting for Obama because he is black.
I just so happen to be an African American Independent voter who is still trying to make up my mind between the candidates. I’m leaning more towards John McCain’s educational reform policy much more than Obama’s, but I like Obama’s economic plan better than McCain’s. I do not feel comfortable with Sarah Palin which is causing me to lean towards Obama. I consider myself an educated voter who actually reads arguments on both sides and doesn’t go along with whomever my friends, media, etc. says that I should.
Along with Rush Limbaugh, I have received many comments from people that assume that all black people must vote for Obama completely because he’s black. It’s just like when Hillary Clinton was running and people would say, “Oh, women are voting for her just because she’s a woman and they want to see a woman win.” This is why the selection of Palin was such an insult. It was like McCain kind of said, “ok, here you go women….I’ve got a woman for you over here. . .any woman will do.” It suggested that those of us that supported Hillary would just automatically go with him because he has a woman on his ticket.
I won’t sit here and lie and say that race is not a factor at all since I can remember my grandparents saying there would never be a black president in America, but to suggest that we would vote for anyone as long as they are black is crazy. I dare say if Kanye West or Michael Jackson were running for president, as a whole black people would NOT vote for them!
No one says to white people the only reason you’re voting for McCain is because he’s white, because that just sounds ridiculous! It’s just such a double standard.

Hogwash, Powell’s endorsement of Obama was a carefully thoughtout move made by an educated, highly decorated veteran of the United States Military and a highly respected past member of two Republican President’s Cabinets. He does not need to justify his reasons, however, they could not have been just because the candidate was Black. He had the first opportunity himself to be the first African American candidate and he turned it down. His reasons are completely related to the appropriateness of the candidate. Experience is always subjectively over or under rated. In Obama’s case it is under rated-in Palin’s case it is Over rated…

For all those who continue to claim that Rush Limbaugh is a “conservative,” please note that the true meaning of a “conservative” is one who believes in conserving the Constitution as it was written and intended by the founders. Rush is no conservative, nor Anne Coulter. Colin Powell understands at this late date, after being bamboozled by the Bush Administration in his U.N. appearance, that the War in Iraq at this point is clearly unconstitutional and an “offensive” rather than “defensive” war, with soldiers now on their 3rd and 4th tours of duty, after being lied to in Cabinet meetings by Cheney, Karl Rove and the gang about the weapons of mass destruction – rather than Iraq being initiated by a son merely trying to gain favor and right the critism lodge at Bush I for leaving without capturing Hussein.
Rush ain’t no conservative – while Powell truly believes, I feel, that Obama has a plan to end this war or at least shift the troops to capturing bin Laden, as the American people were led to believe, and fact we cannot afford to continue to engage in these non-defensive “economic” wars for Wall Street and the bankers.

That’s right! Colin Powell is just reacting to his sense of Black Guilt. The African American community has gotten to him. He took too much grief as a sitting Secretary of State about turning his back on his race and ancestry. Remember all of those comments about how he and Condi were not “black”? He took it after he resigned, too. I remember hearing the “Uncle Tom” cries. The interview on MTP was so rehearsed and coached, it was almost as if he were a mouthpiece for Obama. He sure hit each and every point on the Obama agenda. This one is going to prove to be an embarrassment on the part of Powell. There are going to be a lot of upset Democrats on November 5th when they realize that the “chosen one” has lost.

One could ask the same thing about Joe Lieberman endorsing John McCain. Lieberman agrees with McCain, primarily, on the war…that’s it. Powell is a moderate, so there are issues with which he does agree with Obama…supreme court selections, for example.

I’d have to say that reading what has been said in this and most of the other posts just goes to show how far this country and it’s so called citizens have gone to prove the fact about the dumbing down of America. Just reading and listening to what people are saying and writing is just plain idiotic. The younger generations have really proven what are country is going to be like in 10 years. It’s going to be bunch of people who expect everything without having to earn it. the greatness of this country was built on people working for what they got, not on people who expect the government to wipe there ass for them because they don’t want to get their hands dirty. It’s a shame that we can’t go back a generation when if a kid screwed up he got his butt kicked but not now, no, because it’s politically incorrect. Sorry I’ll stop now and hope for the best but expect the worse.

I believe McCain should be the next president. I am a hispanic and not a cacausian so it is not like I’m felling tis out of racial profile. I believe he has a lot of the same mind set as Bush but I also believe that mind set in in the best interest of our country and not in the best interest of socialism such as Obama’s. Obama knows how to talk a good talk as long as he’s reading off of a script. There has been many times when he has lost his concentration because he was not able to read his telescript. I think he is means good but has very little knowledge on full blown politics that would require him to deal with rogue states such as Iran, Cuba, China, Somalia, and so forth who all believe in depreciating their people and suppressing them. Why should we give them easy way outs when they don’t even care for their people and let alone us. Why should we help or talk to countires who are sending various weapons to Iran to and abroad to kill our soldiers. I agree that we have no reason to remain in Iraq, but I also agree that we should support our troops to the fullest and not talk to someone who is out to kill them or wipe them off the map. I don’t agree with gay marriage and Obama does. He does not believe in denying someone the right to equal living even if it means giving that right to a man an a man. Obama does not swear on the Holy Bible but will swear on the Koran. Obama did not like to wear the American Flag as a pendant on his jacket till the media and internet let it be known then he decided to do so. I think he will flip flop when the time come and go against his beliefs, as ignorant as they are, as long as the people will look at himas right. He has a preacher who is a radical of bringing down America. I don;t know about you but if my church preached to burn America and Damn America and so forth, I would not only stop going there but would boycott it. This man has done niether but continue going. The problem with this country is that we are putting God at the back of the bus and not in the front as he should be and as our founding fathers have done so for hundreds of years. Then we wonder why our country is in the shape it is in. We should vote for someone who has been around politics and knows the way not someone who is comming up because of their unique difference from previous candidtates. I believe a lot of the popularity has to do with him being an African American. If you want someone who is out to better our country and not sell it off and bring us into Socialism, then vote for McCain.

I am an African American Female who grew up in Birmingham, Alabama before integration. I sat in the back of the bus, I drank from “Colored” water fountains, and my elementary school librarian was the grandmother to one of the girls who was killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing.
I took advantage of every educational opportunity made available to me and
because my vote was “earned”, it has no “Color” to me except Red, White , and Blue.
Therefore, my vote will be cast for the person whom I feel is the best qualified candidate, and that person is Senator McCain.
I personally feel that Obama has pulled the wool over the eyes of the American people and I feel extremely sorry for those people who think that they will be getting some sort of reparation if Obama is elected.
I can vividly recall seeing Colin Powell showing us the trucks carrying the “weapons of mass destrution”, which we now know was false and a direct result of the decision my members of Congress to get on the Iraqi War Bandwagon because who would have suspected that Colin Powell was nothing less than an honorable man.
Well, so much for honorable and so much for Colin Powell’s judgement.
Therefore, and since I am in a complete minority of Black Voters who can recognize a fraud, I will not be a part of the manipulation by Obama. Associations do bring on Assimilation.

It will still surprise me though even with Powell’s endorsement if Obama wins. The electronic voting machines have a voting flipping virus running through them.

Why exactly are we even listening to Limbaugh or any of these political commentators? The people who are debating about this interview already have their minds made up. In fact, most of us already subconsciously made up our minds about who we’re voting for, despite what we may say. Rush needs to shut his hateful-racist mouth and start taking a few painkillers to get over it. He needs to understand that not all of us are fooled by the lies of the McCain-Palin campaign. Rush is just foaming at the mouth over the Powell endosement. Rush, Gen. Powell has far more honor than you, who have never served in the military. You should be in jail for the abuse of prescription pain pills, but of course you aren’t, because money got both you and Cindy McCain for that matter out. Rush you are not worth listening to. In 1978, he First Registered to Vote, he had been a Sports Announcer for the Kansas City Royals, but he was a Dismal Failure. Then He Found Redemption as a Conservative Talk Show Host, he was the Darling of Ronny Raygun, and every other Conservative. Now he’s just a footnote in history books he has become as useless as tits on a Bull, because like McCain, it’s only about winning not about truth, justice, liberty and freedom. (benefit of the doubt on your spelling of “inexperienced”) Notice the word WHITE in your statment? That IN and OF itsself makes it a racist comment. For the record, I am WHITE. AM I a liberal? Anyone who knows me will tell you I am absolutely NOT a liberal when it comes to certain issues. Rush is and always has been about the dollar. He will say and DO anything to generate ratings which equates to $$$$’s in HIS pocket. Thank you for taking the time, and the risk of receiving hateful and ignorant responses, to comment on the lack of civility and reasoning shown by many of the previous posts. The majority of the posts here clearly displayed the trend of the past few decades where many people think that name calling and the use of worn out curse words might pass for passionate responses. They only succeed in demonstrating their ignorance and lack of critical thinking. It is very unfortunate that whoever dares ask questions that are deemed politically incorrect very often is subjected to a torrent of hate filled responses. Those people will find out that such tactics will not succeed in stifling our freedom of speech or our ability to vote for the candidates of our choice, regardless of party affiliation. Limbaugh screamed “it’s all about race”.Are you both drugged that you missed the whole substance of why he’s endorsing Obama?Maybe you and Limbaugh have to review his statements with an open mind.Any sane person with or without party affiliation would clearly agree with Powell.Why do you think that there’s already many intelligent black or white prominent Republicans that are voting for Obama?There are also over 100 newspapers endorsing him.

Obama has yet to produced documents necessary to show he is a natural citizen. The COLB shown on his website is not a birth certificate. Would you like to know about his applications to college and law school. I would but he has not produced them. He traveled on a passport to countries that US citizens were not allowed. How did he do that. I would like to see his passports. He was enrolled in school in Indonesia and shown to be an Indonesian citizen. He may have been adopted by an Indonesian citizen and his mother became and Indonesia citizen. He may have been born in Kenya. His mother may not have been a resident of the US long enought for Obama to be a nature born citizen. Berg v. Obama in Pennsylvania is trying to get answers but Obama and other doe not want to produce the evidence. Look at the court file.

Dear goodlaw I know your not that stupied. Obama has been in the U.s. Senate for more than four years now, you can’t run let alone hold a federal seat at that level unless your a U.S. citizen. We have another law suit in Honolulu, Hawaii. It promises to have the story soon on Senator Obama’s qualifications for POTUS. Name calling will never change the truth. Someone is wrong on this issue and it will soon be solved. We need to rediscover confidence in each other and retire the “word smiths”. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961. Hawaii happens to be the USA’s 50th State, having attained statehood in 1959. His mum was born in Kansas, which, last I heard, was also a State. As a child in Indonesia he attended 2 schools – one Catholic, the other public. Indonesia has freedom of religion and its public schools are not affiliated with any religion. It’s also a U.S. ally and there were – and are – no laws forbidding U.S. citizens from travelling there. (But the fare ain’t cheap – distance, you know.) And do I have to repeat, for the umpteenth time, that the guy’s a longtime churchgoing Christian?

Powell did not believe that Obama did appear in the Kenya Ordinga election activities in 2006, though there are video showing Obama’s activities there in youtube. Good intelligence work for an ex-general.
Obama’s activities in Kenya breached the tradition that US officials and lawmakers would not interfere or influence any election activities in other nations. Incidentally, Obama supported the opposition party which had close ally with anti-US muslim, while the ruling part and the Kenya government is US ally in anti-terrorism.
What Obama did causes worry in Canada, and other US allies. They would build firewall against US to restrict the influence from US.
Canada pushed forward the presidential election, to reduce the influence from the Obama’s support of the party for socialist, and to kick off the discussion of free trade agreement with Europe last week.
Other anti-US countries will look forward to build closer relationship with US, with higher hope to get US government funding, to show the peaceful relationship with US if Obama is elected president on the one hand, while building stronger military power and anti-US power on the other, preparing for the future war with US, if non-socialist would be elected president in the future.
This is a logicial game plan of Obama and anti-US countries.

What is wrong with you! Colin Powell was a hero with Republican (and still is with most) until he didn’t follow the Massa yesterday. I even had a friend rant to me that he would have voted for Colin Powell for President even if he was on the Democratic ticket; but was irate that he was completely fooled by Obama. Now there’s logic for you! He still considers him the best choice to lead the greatest nation of the free world, have control of troops, nuclear weapons, our economy,etc.; but was too naive to make an informed decision on his own vote. That’s the perfect example of how absolutely stupid Rush and all of his ridged-forehead minions are on this.

(and lack thereof) and Powell waited until it looked like a sure thing for Obama(some say it was perfect timing) but I have my doubts. Powell also didn’t speak up against the WMDs when he KNEW they didn’t exist(watch the old videos of him nervously presenting the WMD cartoon images). Everytime I read a blog someone is referring to code words. I posted a statement recently stating that if our country falls into a depression we will go back to eating pinto beans and squirrel as I did as a child. I’ve read the comments and see that everyone is very passionate about what you believe and who you believe should be the next President of the United States of America. I say to eaches own believe what you want. But just like our canditates why we can’t go through this process without all the name calling and rude comments. You vote for who you want to and let me vote for whom I want to. And when the people have made their choice let’s learn to live in One Nation, under GOD, with liberty and justice for ALL. What I’ve learned is that RACISM to alive and it’s not just whites against blacks but it’s also blacks against other blacks. Our self hatred goes so deep.
