The American People Seem to Be Realizing that Republicans Aren’t on Their Side
By: RmuseSep. 27th, 2012more from Rmuse
Most Americans would like to believe their representatives in government are looking out for their interests, and although they may have a specific cause that is unique to them, they at least expect legislators to work for the people. Politicians have the difficult task of considering all their constituents needs, and often, special interests feel their representatives are not supporting their cause but, as a rule, Americans are intelligent enough to understand they are not the center of the world. Since the start of the 112th Congress, Republicans have demonstrated to the entire country that they have no interest in supporting the American people or protecting their interests unless they are extremely wealthy, the energy industry, or religious extremists. With only a few weeks to go before the general election, polls are showing growing support for President Obama and Democrats, and in part it is because of Willard Romney, but it is equally likely that the American people who are not racists or religious extremists realize Republicans are not on their side.
Republicans have spent the past year-and-a-half obstructing progress this country needs to grow and prosper while working feverishly to eliminate programs Americans depend on. Many pundits claim the tea party is responsible for pushing Republicans to extremist positions, and there is some validity to that assumption, but the Republican ticket of Romney and Ryan verified to many Americans that the entire GOP adopted an extremist agenda based on racism, misogyny, greed, and hate. It is unclear if Republicans care about, or fail to understand, the American people, but they have miscalculated the decency of most Americans.
In a poll released yesterday, Pew reports that President Obama’s support among Catholics is surging in spite of the recent flap between the United States Council of Bishops (USCCB) over contraception coverage proving that religious freedom is not first and foremost on Catholic voters’ minds. Republicans have lost support among Catholics because their agenda of slashing social programs to protect the wealthy is not only un-Christian, it is un-American. In fact, if Americans have learned anything over the past three-and-a-half years, it is that everything Republicans support is contrary to what made America great.
There are very few Americans who do not appreciate good schools, clean air, police and fire protection, and security in their old age, and for the most part they are more than willing to pay for it through their payroll, sales, and income tax contributions. What they receive in return is a Republican Party, in Congress and the states, that supports slashing education, environmental protections, social safety nets, and even police and fire protection to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. Republicans even bartered natural disaster support and children’s programs for extending Bush-era tax cuts for the rich, and deliberately blocked jobs programs they claim are too expensive while protecting oil subsidies and corporate tax breaks to outsource Americans’ jobs. It is obvious to any reasonable human being, that when it comes to supporting the American people, Republicans have gone beyond falling short; they are actively working against 98% of the people. Conversely, President Obama and Democrats have amassed a record that is decidedly pro-American, and the people are finally taking notice.
Whether they support all the President’s policies or not, most Americans understand that through his words and deeds, Barack Obama is on their side and his legislative achievements prove it. The President has pushed for consumer protections in health care, banking, and the workplace, and fought to create jobs and improve the economy amid GOP obstructionism. But maybe more than anything, Americans recognize that the President does what Republicans will not, and that is defend equal rights for all Americans regardless their race, religion, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation.
Republicans have spent President Obama’s entire term obstructing progress and punishing the American people in the process. The popular saying that “Republicans hate President Obama more than they love America” may be apropos, but based on their non-performance and campaign pledges if they win in November, they hate the American people at least as much as they hate the President and they proved it last week when Senate Republicans blocked a Veteran’s jobs bill and House Republicans failed to pass a farm bill before taking two months off to campaign for another term of Draconian budget cuts and tax breaks for the rich.
The Republicans are flagging in the polls because their malfeasance has caught up to them and they have not been helped by the Republican ticket for president that promises more of the same. Apparently, the GOP imagined that Americans would forget that for three-and-a-half years they assaulted women’s rights, the poor, gays, the middle class, businesses, children, Veterans, and seniors in what can only be described as a war on Americans and throughout it all, President Obama and Democrats have thwarted every Republican effort. If the people have only learned one thing about this President, it is that he has been on their side from his first day in office despite the vicious lies, racism, and misinformation leveled at him by Republicans, and throughout it all he maintained his dignity and fought for the people; even those who malign him with impunity.
A little over four years ago when Barack Obama spoke to the crowd at Grant Park, he told the people that he would be President for all the people, and he has fulfilled that promise throughout his term. On the night of his inauguration, Republican leaders gathered to plot their obstruction that signaled their blatant disregard for America and especially the people who were not part of the wealthy elite class. Subsequently, they spent nearly four years doing nothing whatsoever to earn their pay, or the respect of the American people, and it is finally catching up to them. Whether they thought all Americans were racists and selfish, or that the people would forget their criminal economic malfeasance is of no consequence, they have blatantly worked against this country and its people. Perhaps Republicans underestimated Americans who expect their representatives to work in their best interests, or maybe they thought obstructing economic progress would turn the people against this President, but whatever their dysfunction, they made a grave error that is playing out in positive poll numbers for President Obama and Democrats.
Republicans may have thought that trotting out a white conservative champion would ensure an easy victory in November, but what they produced was a defective Bush clone who has telegraphed to the people that he is not on their side and holds at least half of them in contempt. His campaign promises to take up where Republicans left off in assaulting what is left of the middle class, gays, women, seniors, Veterans, school teachers, police officers, firefighters, and children, and he will do it with extreme prejudice to give more tax cuts to the wealthy and their corporations. By elevating Willard Romney as their standard bearer, Republicans put Americans on notice that the past three-and-a-half years were a prelude to a concerted effort to win the war against the American people, and like the President has said time and time again, “don’t bet against the American people” because he has not and they know it as evidenced by poll after poll showing growing support for the President most Americans know is on their side.

Romney has been more successful at one important thing: he has effectively demonstrated that he, his supporters, the rich and powerful don’t represent our interests, the interests of America or democracy.
No matter how many charts, studies, and hard evidence have surfaced, people refused to embrace the obvious. It took Romney to make it clear that the interests of the ultra rich supersede the interests of family, community, and country. Congratulations Mitt on the one and only thing you did well.

It seems like most Americans are finally waking up to the fact that the Republican Party is not about them or for them. They created a monster in supporting the Teabaggers’ vitrol, hatred and ignorance stance and embraced. The Repubican Congress and Senate members allowed their racist view and hatred of the President to overshadow the fact that they were elected to serve their constituents and all Americans by helping to fix the economic mess they created and to get Americans back to work. Instead they catered to their ignorant, illformed supporters and the 1% and it’s now coming back to bite them on their collective asses as ordinary Americans finally see them for what they are..INCOMPETENT and USELESS.
You reap what you sow Republicans. You have no one to blame but yourself for selling out your fellow Americans.

You stupid LIBERALS don’t even realize that Barack Hussein Obama is DESTROYING America. He is the most liberal left wing president of all times! He is taking away our guns and freedoms and he’s a socialist Islamist muslim who isn’t even a legitimate citizen! If you would listen to facts instead of liberal media then you would see this clearly. He is reversing the Christian values that are a core part of our constitution and he has insulted God’s sacred institution of marriage by letting in the gays. I’m also hard core trolling you guys right now, but its sad that some people actually believe the stuff I just said.

That was great. My eyes nearly popped out of my head until you confessed your trolling.
The fact your trolling worked is just proof we’ve all seen far too much of it. It’s terrible that attitude represents the typical Republican in today’s politics.

This is what is wrong with America. The sad proof is those are the exact words of people who are STILL voting for Mittens. :/ When and If they lose the election they are going to bitch and moan that everyone in America is going to hell. Stop whining and lend a extra hand in helping rebuild our country.

The constitution of our country has no mention of God in any way.
The pledge of allegiance was change and same as money.
Frankly the founding fathers would be ashamed of what our country has become.
Take your ignorant, bible humping, racist shit out of here.

That’s right Troll, sit at home rubbing your Sarah Palin and Mittens dolls…pray, keep praying…President Obama has done and is doing what is right for this country.
What’s the matter? You got Stockholm syndrome? Sympathizing with your former captors? Blink twice if they are still in the room and you can’t talk!
All we need for Mittens to do is KEEP TALKING. Hell, he will probably cast his vote for President Obama, he changes his mind so often. Go burn your crosses and wear your sheets somewhere else.

@ Sign – If Obama is the biggest boogeyman you believe you’ve ever encountered…why is his health care plan the same as Willard’s and the Heritage Foundation’s? In other legislation…he has taken BOP ideas and expanded them…even to the point of alienating HIS base. How about his support of keeping Guantanamo open and the continual breaking of Constitutional protections concerning a speedy trial for the true patriot, Bradley Manning?
Then all I hear from those like you is how he’s not an American…is a Muslim and a socialist. Unless you have actual documents…he was born in Hawaii…attends the same church the Pilgrims started and if he’s the socialist demon you/other baggers claim…he’s the lousiest one to ever be elected.

I am used to republican lies, but here in NC we are getting blanketed by rethug ads, today was super disgusting to me. My husband is a disabled veteran and we follow veterans issues closely, the mailer in my postbox today was super disgusting, in brief -it said how rethugs will do everything for vets, like get them jobs (after they just killed the jobs bill for vets!) also about how wonderful healthcare for vets will be under republicans (like maybe vouchers)
and more disgusting things, veterans are better now than at any time, the president and first lady have worked for veterans health care, jobs etc. And this while rethugs try to stop all efforts!

i really hope that americans are finally waking up and seeing who is in their best interest.the future is starting to look bleak for the gop .their base is shrinking by the day .they can still count on the south but as obama has proven you dont need to win any of the southern states to win the white house.i feel bad for people who live under the gop thumb.bad schools, bad economy,no sex ed,woman arent taken seriously by men, obesity.case in point mississippi the reddest state in the union, highest teen pregnancy, highest obesity rates and the poorest state thats what the gop want for the rest of us.they keep their own people uneducationed so they dont know any better and keep voting them in.its really sad .wish all of us can wake up

You guys are no better than the republicans. This is the most biased piece of reporting I have ever seen. You do know that the ‘republicans doing all they can to stop Obama through his term’ is misleading as the Dems held congress for the first 2 and still hold the senate. You can’t blame it all on one party. Stop drinking the kool aid and wake up to what is happening around you.
The NDAA signed and asked to be changed by the white house before approval takes away our civil liberties. Stop believing the right/left lies and make decisions for yourself. Obama has killed children and American citizens with his approved drone strikes. People live in fear in Pakistan as they hide out all day and night as drones whizz through the air. You people who stand up for the rights and humanity sicken me by supporting such a damning person.

No troll? What is this?
“You do know that the ‘republicans doing all they can to stop Obama through his term’ is misleading”
Here’s an 8-second YouTube video to prove you wrong. Since you’re probably too inept to understand it, I will caption it by stating that it’s only the Senate leader of the Republican party who’s speaking.

I read this piece with half-relief and half-disgust. The disgust half is the fact that I’ve been saying those things (GOP’s war on America and Democrats trying to protect us from the GOP) for more than a year now. In fact, on the night of 2 November, 2010, I told anyone who’d listen that the Tea Party Militia wave would be really bad for this country.
Any doubt I had as to whether the GOP were only serving the interests of three groups of “people”, fetuses, angry rich old white man and big corporations, were dashed during the debt-ceiling debacle last year. When the GOP proposed Draconian cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, I came up with the statement that the Obama campaign and other Democrats have been using: Reverse Robin Hood. Not long after the debt-ceiling fiasco, I heard that GOP moderates began jumping ship for the Democratic Party or to being Independents in large numbers. By now, that number of defectors has reached at least 5 million and I saw an estimation in one online story that the number of defectors could be 25 million.
If the bigger number is true, the GOP’s geese are cooked. If there are really 25 million defectors, another prediction I started making more than a year ago will come to pass: the death of the Republican Party. What I’ll say now is that, should the GOP die on 6 November, 2012, here’s what’ll happen: first, the GOP will split up into a pair of parties: Conservative and Tea Party Miltia; GOP moderates will have three choices; 1) Democratic Party; 2) become Independents or, 3) become members of the relatively new Progressive Party, the lone party without extremist and ignorant idiots…the TPM have the highest concentration of those morons. The Progressive Party will become the second major party and, no, the Libertarians will not take over as the other major party. Sorry, Bad Libs: your party’s extreme fiscal conservatism and radical social liberalism won’t fly.

But how can this be? According to the Romney-Ryan campaign and every Republican talking head on the planet, it was Obama was the one who stole 700 billion from there.

As a lifelong Progressive…I live in one of the reddest states in the West…Idaho. Having registered to vote for the first time in 30+ years…I registered as a BOP voter. Can’t stand them…but with a last name the same as many African-Americans…I was scared my registration would be lost or they would do everything they could to keep me from voting. Now…come election time and in the future…it’s straight Progressive voting to attempt to put a dent in more baggers/fundamentalists getting elected.
