What has happened to us since is a product less of mere greed than outright Randian malice, as well as the smug snobbery of those who had made it into the burbs and the middle class and didn’t want to be classed with “the little people” any more. It was their fatuous identification with the upper crust that caused them to be squashed right out of the pie, and instead of facing how they’ve been had, they join the Tea Party, call the First Lady a chimp, and cut off their balls to spite their peters.
