On MSNBC 10th Grader Amy Myers Turns Up The Heat On Michele Bachmann
Amy Myers was on MSNBC’s The Last Word where she showed the world why Rep. Michele Bachmann is afraid to debate her.
Here is the video from The Last Word:

Rep. Michele Bachmann should be afraid to debate Amy Myers. She would lose. By Amy’s own litmus test for political officeholders that, “If you are going to run for office, you’d better know what the basic foundation of this history is,” Bachmann wouldn’t qualify. The problem for Michele Bachmann is that she doesn’t understand the constitution, history, or basic civics.
I am sure that if she really wanted to debate Amy, she could study up a little bit, but when have we ever known a Republican to study anything? The anti-intellectual Republican Party holds education in disdain. In fact, being too educated is a black mark against any would be Republican. The GOP likes their people scared, not smart.
In all seriousness if Bachmann was even a little bit smart instead of ignoring the young lady, she would send her a note encouraging her to following her political ambitions. She could put out a nice statement about how America needs more bright young minds like, Amy. Maybe she could even do a little quiz with her, or do a little something that will take the edge off of this story?
Since we are dealing with a paranoid right wing freak here, none of that will happen. Instead, Bachmann probably sees this as some sort of left wing Obama plot to make her look bad. She probably scoffs and wonders if Amy’s parents aren’t residing in a FEMA camp as we speak, and shudders in dismay as the Manchurian 10th grader puts her Obama indoctrination on full display.
Bachmann probably views Amy Myers as a threat, not an opportunity. Michele Bachmann should be afraid of Amy Myers, as well as all the other 10th graders out there who someday soon will be old enough to vote. If they can see through your bullshit at age 15-16, they aren’t going to be buying it when they step into the voting booth at 18.
Amy Myers vs. Michele Bachmann would be better than any 2012 GOP debate.
It’s too bad that Bachmann is too afraid of a 10th grader to let us see it.

This article is right on the point! In a few years my sons will be voting and they already on their own will NOT vote for any willfully stupid, greedy, selfish, morally bankrupt and hypocrital republican. These young people and many of us not so young are onto you repubs. The only way you can steal elections in the future is with your shitty laws to curb voters or your corrupted Diebold machines. Let us hope ANONYMOUS helps with the latter…heh.

My experience with my granddaughter (lives with us) and her friends echoes your sons. These kids are paying a lot more attention than many think.

As a one-time student of Cherry Hill High School [West, 1968-1969] I know that this is a good public school district delivering a quality eduction.
Michele Bachmann is right to be afraid of debating Amy Myers, she wouldn’t stand a chance.

Let us commend this young woman who would not be cowed by the vilest threats! She will never be encouraged by the likes of Bachman to follow a career in politics or law, but I hope there is a higher-class legislator out there who helps her on her way.

This is a real woman. Palin can only dream of having her strength and her gumption. Undefeated indeed!

Bachmann has nothing to peddle but lies, fear and lies. Not to promising for a debate about the history of our constituion.

You don’t have to be in high school AP History to be correct. I haven’t taken a US history course in over thirty years and I knew Bachmann was wrong about Lexington and Concord. I often hear her, Palin, and other GOP figures make gross errors about American history and civics.

Obama doesn’t know that in Europe, they use the PAL video system – not NTSC.
He does not know how many states we have.
He does not know what year it is.
I could go on… but hopefully, you get the point.
Sarah Jones
May. 29th, 2011 at 1:20 pm
Actually, with the right equipment, you can watch PAL here and they can watch NTSC there.

May. 30th, 2011 at 6:46 am
Oh, come on. Some of that is really a stretch.
While I admit that all of them are humorous, I think that you are being a bit liberal (in this case, I am not referring to the difference between liberal and conservative politically) in your blame. Most notably in your DVD region example.
(Note: for the record, I loved the DVD screw-up. Was really a dumb mistake to make and made the U.S. look like idiots.)
How can you blame the situation on Obama himself (and therefore, how can you declare he doesn’t know the difference between PAL and NTSC)? Sure, you can say that since it was done in his name, he has to have accountability, but this wasn’t his fault.
No, Obama didn’t pick out the movies and personally buy them (which is the only way he can be legitimately held responsible). It was done by “The White House.” And even then, the White House didn’t choose what movies and didn’t physically gather them together. They just asked the American Film Institute to do it for them.
As you said, I could go on… but hopefully, you get the point.

@(hill)billy:
That argument comparing our brilliant president with the shallow, ignorant likes of Palin and Bachmann has been tried and has failed repeatedly. But then, when we see folks like you trying to do just that, we see why people like these two women appeal to you. Your “argument” is an epic fail because it’s not supported by logic or facts. In any event, young people like Amy Myers need to be supported and cultivated so they outnumber folks like you and your ilk.

Graduate Degree, Harvard Law School – Juris Doctor (JD) Magna Cum Laude. President of the Harvard Law Review. I think, Barack Obama, could handle himself pretty well against Bachmann…
But I don’t know about the Kid…never make an Argument against a young Kid…they don’t know how to lie!! Not in a debate at that age!!

I will be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of the tea party, but I’m not convinced. One minor fact on US History isn’t evidence of political incompetence. Can we please step it up? Because this stuff is why we (liberals/progressives) lose. Next time bring up something that matters.
Anne
May. 29th, 2011 at 2:06 pm
It’s not just “one minor fact on US history,” but a series of blunders by someone elected to office. Saying that the
Founding Fathers, who lived in the 18th century, worked tirelessly until slavery was abolished is an example of unmitigated ignorance, since that didn’t happen until 1865. Calling for Democratic congressional members to be investigated for un-American activities as Bachmann did in 2008, only helps to cement her reputation for ignorance, which rivals Palin’s.
Both of them are an embarrassment to women, and should be a major embarrassment to any rational, thinking American.

I am not a fan of Michelle Bachmann. I think she’s an embarrassment to her office. However, I disagree with the first half of this article. Bachmann isn’t going to debate Amy Meyers because she’s afraid of losing to a high school kid or too anti-intellectual to study up; she’s not going to debate Amy because there’s nothing in it for her. If she debates a high school kid and wins, she beat a kid. If she loses, she’s lost to a kid. Someone who aspires to the presidency doesn’t actively pursue opportunities to be compared to precocious high school students. I do agree that if she was smart she would send a note of encouragement to Amy. It would put more distance between her and Amy than ignoring her ever could. But this whole notion that she’s “chicken,” is just obnoxious clucking by left wing bloggers who think they’re in a lowest common denominator race with the right wing media. If liberals/progressives continue to seed the “smart ground,” what is left to distinguish us from the ridiculous right? Context matters. Why people do things matters as much as them doing it. I don’t feel solidarity with liberals when they imitate tactics of the right wing media machine; I feel disappointed/alienated.

Mike,
I actually point out that she stands to gain a lot from this by at least being a good sport. She doesn’t have to debate her, but she could have gotten herself some great PR.

Mike, you are 100% right. We on the left on correct on the major issues. Playing dirty tricks on Palin and Bachmann just shows the Dems as petty and mean spiriited. I have seen too many lefty bloggers using the most vile language against Bachmann and some middle of the road women are being really turned off by the misogynist treatment of Bachmann from the left.
Gaf
May. 29th, 2011 at 10:43 pm
It’s not misogyny that makes people dislike, make fun of, and just all around badmouth Michelle Bachmann. It’s the simple fact that she’s a blathering idiot. One or two historical flubs can be expected, especially when someone’s on the hot seat as people like Bachmann often are, but consistently demonstrating that you don’t know historical, scientific, governmental, and political facts is a sign that you’re either stupid or uneducated; it doesn’t matter what gender you are. And I doubt that any “middle of the road” people, as you call them, are concerned with the criticism of one of the most embarrassingly stupid extremist politicians out there.
But I agree that she has no reason to debate this kid, as industrious as the young lady seems. Cute story, though.

While I am sympathetic to the fact that Bachman is a little whacky and possibly not that bright, this whole thing is a little unfair. If Bachman’s opponent in an election challenged her to a debate on the constitution, that would be legitimate. This is constructed story that makes a game out of politics. Let Bachman turn herself into Sarah Palin. We don’t have to do it for her.
