I read the article posted on “The New Civil Rights Movement” site, and I noticed at the end of it that only 15% of Catholics think a person should be fired because he/she is gay. This leads me to believe that it’s not the Catholic laypersons who are anti-gay, it’s the Catholic leaders. The leaders seem to be out of touch with the members of the Church on a variety of issues. It reminds me of a poll I saw that showed that a majority of Catholic laypersons think women should have access to birth control. I think it’s time for the leaders to listen to the members of the Church. The chasm that exists between Catholic Church leaders and laypersons indicates to me that the leaders are authoritarians who want to impose their opinions and beliefs not only on the members of the Church, but on all Americans. I can’t recall when I’ve been as shocked as I was upon discovering that Church leaders are seeking to reprimand the nuns because they aren’t anti-gay enough. IMHO, the nuns are the backbone of the Church. They’re the ones who go out into communities and work closely with the people who live in them. I wonder when the last time occurred in which Bill Donohue or Pope Benedict XVI ventured into any community to minister to the people who live there.

If we accept the hypothesis that the historical Yeshua had been in India and been trained as a yogi, then it’s possible he really walked around because he wasn’t dead (yogis and darwishes from that part of the world have survived sword-thrusts and live burial; the former was witnessed by someone I knew, and the latter reported on in, if memory serves me, 1968)

They area deregulating licensing requirements for insurance and all kinds of other professions while they regulate “ethics”.

Small government? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, right.

I suppose using this logic I would be free to fire a Christian employee who thinks God is three people in one, or that dead people come back from death and walk around.

I can’t imagine attempting to coerce anyone into changing their orientation, though if someone had strong urges towards the nonconsenting, nonadult, or nonhuman, I’d do what I could to make sure they didn’t act out. All the same, if such a client came to me and expressed a desire to change, I’d want to know if they merely wanted to fit in or if they were genuinely interested in a person of the opposite sex. If so, I’d encourage them to explore whether they might be bisexual, and if so, whether, and how, they could live with it. Under no circumstances should a professional of any kind say or do anything which could drive a suicidal client over the edge. If there is any reason a professional can’t deal with a client or a patient, they should refer them to someone who can.
