Black and White Armed Protesters Swarm the Capitol — Can You Spot the Difference?
On March 9, 2013 armed protesters “Swarm The State Capitol” in Olympia, Washington to protest the 30 plus firearms related bills on the docket, some of which seek to expand gun rights. They were expecting 2,000 people according to the organizers, but only an estimated 200 showed up.
Watch here:
King 5 News reported:
While those debates begin Monday, gun advocates wanted to make sure House representatives could see them on Saturday.
Rally attendees cheered speeches telling of a “progressive conspiracy,” warning against allowing children to become “slaves of the government” and citing Nazi Germany and contemporary Australia as cautionary tales of a disarmed citizenry.
Multiple speakers encouraged those assembled to keep posting pro-gun sentiments on Facebook even if people unfriend them.
So we have a group “armed with long guns slung over shoulders or holstered handguns” marching on the capitol, giving speeches inferring that America is becoming Nazi Germany because lawmakers are trying to prevent convicted felons and the mentally ill from getting their hands on a gun via a loophole.
They claim they need guns to protect them from the progressive agenda and this President turning American into Nazi Germany (that’s a crazy and insulting claim that diminishes the horror of what the Nazis actually did). This is called rallying for “rights”.
Contrast that with footage from when the Black Panther Party invade the State Assembly Chamber in Sacramento in May, 1967, and were described as angry and violent, although they claimed they needed guns to protect themselves from racists:
Yes, the Black Panther footage is from 1967 and maybe back then we were more prone to associate violence and anger with guns. But we were also more likely to associate anger and violence with black people.
Here’s footage from 2007 showing neighbors chasing the Black Panthers out of town as they try to protest:
A crucial difference between the Black Panthers and the Tea Party type second amendment protesters is that the Black Panthers were initially founded for the protection of African-American neighborhoods from proven police brutality, and later evolved into something else entirely. However, that brutality was a fact, not a hypothetical. It was a reality, not a paranoia.
The entire notion of self-defense demands that there is a real attack or threat. Claiming that you are defending yourself from a Nazi government that has done nothing to indicate that it is indeed operating like the Nazis is not the same thing as defending yourself from unfair policy brutality, which black people were facing in the 1960′s and continue to face to this day.
How would the media describe armed black protesters “swarming” the capitol today?
One group is given the benefit of the doubt that they are protesting their “freedom”, while another is seen as violent and angry. In truth, I find both groups to be violent and angry because it’s menacing and threatening to be carrying guns as a warning to legislators.
But imagine if the press described these second amendment protesters “violent” and “angry” today, just because they were armed. Then imagine if the “second amendment” defenders were black and armed.

Wait..what? “contemporary Australia as a cautionary tale”?
W T F ?
Last time I checked WE were the ones awash with conspiracy theorists and people slaughtering men, women, and children.

And… That country with surfers and kangaroo hasn’t had a mass shooting rampage for more ten years. Does that mean those protestors want more opportunity to make somebody eat lead?

Despite that well-worn fact that they would have absolutely no chance against the government, these people are only here to ensure that they may get their chance to kill someone.
If they were really patriots they would use a musket the way the patriots did to protect themselves. So go throw the three cornered hat out the window.
It just keeps going back to how small can a penis be to have to carry a big gun to make yourself feel like a man. Don’t answer that Reynardine

As you can see I am not hiding behind a user name.
I doubt this is even going to make it into the comments as it is proven just how rigid and biased liberal forums are.
I wanted to let you know the name of the individual who finds it extremely offensive to have you throw out such generalities as “they want to opportunity to kill someone”…paraphrasing of course as I am not going to waste my time going back over your ridiculous assessment of gun advocates.
The fact is- the violent outbreaks we have been seeing lately such as the Colorado shooter have been Liberal..Oh don’t take MY word for it..please feel free to actually read for yourself for once instead of blathering nonsense someone else fed you.
I for one was at the rally. It was peaceful, fun, and we got out point across. The fact is, there are far more of us than you want to admit to. You know, that hated, dreaded words *whispers* Libertarians (HIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN!!!!!
Actually we are for a peaceful resolution more than the media would let you think. But no worries. please feel free to continue to throw out half baked theories not at all based in reality. When the curtain rises and you see what you have actually allowed our country to become- you will be screaming for us soon enough.

first, I dont care what user name you use.
second, the shooters have not been liberal.
third, you think there are a lot of you, but the smart ones dont act like you.
Fourth, what I have allowed the coutnry to become? I dont think so. We are not the ones running around using a gun for a dick. How do you like the fact the religious right wing wants to take all your rights as a mentally problematic woman??
Suggestion, there are a lot more things going on in this world than guns. Guns are not even important. And no, the time will not come when we scream for you, you wont have a chance. You pray for the day you can fight the government and die. We dont.
BTW, we are not against guns, we are against the gun freaks like you. The ones that think guns are more important then life. We vote for life, you look for ways to take it
If you care about what the media thinks of you, fix the extreme crazys in your crowd. You give yourself a lot more credit then is due.
And you are right, your stupidity wont last here.

Dawn, I DO use a user name. Why? I have had five friends murdered by RW extremists. Mostly guns, one bomb. I am targeted on an extremist list. I do take precautions. I have very little alternative.
So I commend you on one hand, and realize you are largely at no risk so it’s pretty easy.
I support the right of gun ownership. Why? I have other living friends who have infiltrated extremist groups and now are living in hiding. Guns are essential to their survival. I am trained in the use of a semi-automatic hand gun AND an MP 5. I happen to be quite good with both but own neither.
NO ONE is taking your guns away, but we ARE demanding, as your neighbors and fellow citizens, that semi automatic large magazine weapons – weapons that have only been briefly legal – be withdrawn from easy access. We are insisting people with very questionable backgrounds be prohibited. I don’t favor a ‘mental health list’ so much as a “you already fucked up’ list. The mentally ill are not the problem. The angry haters are.
Yes – we see the drumbeat for guns as too many people screaming they have a right to kill. From Stand your Ground to the idiot who said on tape he was going to start killing people, your “mouthpieces” are NOT doing you any favors.
If you want to make a case, dump those zealots and demon freaks. YOU make a fairly cogent statement. Do YOU defend the unfettered right of anyone with violent histories to own any type of gun at all? WHY??? Why in God’s green earth is this necessary.
Fearing your government – the most free nation on earth – is without foundation. I’ve been waiting for the apocalypse since Clinton was sworn in. I’ve been looking for ‘freedoms we lost’ since Carter was sworn in. And none of it happened or WILL HAPPEN.
So thank you for speaking your mind. I for one will try to be less broad-brush in my characterizations of rabid gun owners. You seem not to be one of them, but in turn – PLEASE organize gun owners who are as concerned with the victims as they are with their own rights? Why in the world are those two things mutually exclusive?
Thank you for speaking your mind. Understand we’re doing the same – and as for me, guns took lives several times over of people I valued. I have JUST AS MUCH RIGHT to be concerned for them as I must be for you and your rights. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.

I don’t see why this isn’t a frank case of intimidating legislators with threats of lethal violence. Furthermore, it is likely to arouse violent urges in answer. I once saw a charming miniature Gatling gun that fired .22 shorts; I suddenly pictured that noxious fat man and his ilk having their flies strafed with such fire (which is about the right shot for small diptera).

If 30 armed black protesters “swarmed” [i.e. legally assembled at] a state capital it would be ignored by the mainstream national media just as it ignores routine shootings in black neighborhoods but goes front page ballistic when the occasional pill popping white nut shoots up a public place.

Do I think it is a bit over the top. Maybe. I am fine with universal background checks, even at gun shows. I do think that reps are going over the top with legislation on fire arms. How about if we let the ATF do it’s job and staff and fund them. I would like to see how all those posting feel about the fact the DHS has bought more ammo (over 1.6 billion rounds)in the past year than was used last year in Afghanistan.and between 1-2k armored personnel carriers along with thousands of Select fire AKA REAL assault rifles. All to be used on US soil. IF you doubt it look it up. I don’t get if the DHS just is over funded (wish schools had that problem) or if they are planning on fighting a war against our own citizens or the US armed forces. Thank you for your time.

Mar. 11th, 2013 at 11:27 pm
It’s easy to form a opinion based off only one side of a story but, that would be just ignorant. How many people actually look at the real facts? How many people do the research and search out the truth? If you truly believe that the mainstream media reports the whole story or even the truth just Google “media lying”. It should really open your eyes.

what?
Mar. 12th, 2013 at 1:31 am
Ah yes the liberal way. Why use facts and logic when you can just fling insults about penis size to make yourself feel better. I guess our forefathers were paranoid “small penis” gun carrying wack jobs too. For everyone’s sake I hope you are right and our government never comes against us. But I do remember one of the biggest things that stuck from my history teacher. That was if your don’t learn from history you are doomed to repeat it…

And u definitely don’t know how to learn. No need to learn from history books on this one. Just try to read through the news reports from the last months to see how many have died from irresponsible gun handling. If the US army try to march through your door, let’s see how you can “resist”, the army that those same gun nuts love so much when they march through a faraway country.

Why do so many liberals love to use the “penis envy” argument rather than engage in real, meaningful, fact-based discussion?
psychology.about.com/od/s...
Sigmund Freud’s views on women stirred controversy during his own lifetime and continue to evoke considerable debate today. “Women oppose change, receive passively, and add nothing of their own,” he wrote in a 1925 paper entitled “The Psychical Consequences of the Anatomic Distinction Between the Sexes.”
Donna Stewart, M.D., a professor and chair of women’s health at the University Health Network, explained, “Freud was a man of his times. He was opposed to the women’s emancipation movement and believed that women’s lives were dominated by their sexual reproductive functions” (Lehmann, p. 9).
Penis Envy:
Penis envy is the female counterpart to Freud’s concept of castration anxiety. In his theory of psychosexual development, Freud suggested that during the phallic stage (around ages 3-5) young girls distance themselves from their mothers and instead devote their affections to their fathers.
According to Freud, this occurs when a girl realizes that she has no penis. “Girls hold their mother responsible for their lack of a penis and do not forgive her for their being thus put at a disadvantage,” Freud suggested (1933).

I’m not opposed to universal background checks but such laws need to be written correctly. This, I believe is what the pro gun folks are protesting. For instance the proposed background check law here in Colorado doesn’t create a regristry or give you any sort of certificate to prove that you have had a background check. This creates a giant loophole that allows cops to take your guns because you cannot prove that you are allowed to have them. I was all for this law before I found out about that.

It seems most here want a communist state. Well if the 2nd amendment is out dated maybe your 1st amendment is outdated.
Still there hasn’t been 1 law purposed that actually takes a firearm from the hands of a criminal.

Michael, why do you pretend to know what a communist state is?
How do you determine who is a criminal? A criminal caught in the act of a crime who has a gun is relieved of that gun. There are many laws that are poorly enforced that try to prevent criminals from getting guns. However you cannot call a 16-year-old who suddenly decides he’s going to shoot up a school a criminal before he shoots the school up.
I think your problem may be the you’re so hung up on guns that you left reality on your last right turn

Note that no one is attacking these people’s rights to assemble peaceably and petition for redress. It should be noted, however, that when they appear on the doorstep of the legislature armed to the teeth with weapons of mass slaughter, a reasonable person might interpret that as not peaceable.

Actually, a cautionary tale can be made of those armed protesters strolling around the capitol building; it is very much like what the Nazi brown shirts did in 1930′s Germany to intimidate anyone who opposed their narrow point of view – this protest is similar in its bullying tactics, implied threats and intimidation, and its claim that they are there to protect us from a non-existent government boogieman.
