Benghazi Gate Deflates as Republicans Abandon Fox and Grasp Reality
Today, after former CIA Director General Petraeus very slowly explained to confused, befuddled Republicans what everyone in the world already knew, they saw the light. Yes, I called the fail this morning but who knew it would be so sudden and decisive.
It turns out that the intelligence report sent to Congress that Ambassador Rice also based her talking points on was just that. The report was approved by the CIA. Later they changed their assessment.
OH MY GOD!
Even Rep. Peter King (R-NY) sees the light now, leaving just dodgy John McCain and the gotta-impress-his-base for his upcoming election Lindsey Graham hysterically clutching tinfoil.
Per Think Progress:
KING: They were not involved — it was done, the process was completed and they said, “Ok go with those talking points.” Again it’s interagency — I got the impression that 7, 8, 9 different agencies.
Q: Did he give you the impression that he (Petraeus) was upset it was taken out?
KING: No.
Q: You said the CIA said “OK” to the revised report -
KING: No, well, they said in that, after it goes through the process, they OK’d it to go. Yeah, they said “Okay for it to go.”
King sounded rather awed. Yes, imagine that, 7-9 different agencies trying to determine what happened and what they can say in an unclassified statement that the entire world, including any suspected terrorists, will hear.
I mean, gosh darn it, you COULD rush out there and out a CIA base like Republicans did. On the other hand, actual professionals might take time combing over a statement carefully and cautiously. As the investigation continued, they might even come to a different conclusion! It’s like the facts might lead them in a new direction. While perhaps unthinkable to the cowboy class, it’s how the rules of evidence work.
King could have avoided his “confusion” by simply reading the intelligence report sent to Congress, which had the same talking points as Ambassador Rice’s statement. But we all know Republicans have no time for reading, what with their TV appearances decrying the lack of information on Benghazi taking up so much of their taxpayer-funded time.
Rush Limbaugh even admitted that he got the Petraeus conspiracy wrong.
So dies another effort by Republicans to give legs to a Fox-manufactured conspiracy theory – oh, and the millions of taxpayer dollars being wasted on assisting Republicans with their eventual collision with reality.
Only Fox News is still at it, hunting for nuggets of cray-cray under the disintegrating talking points of Karl Rove’s financial failures, desperately hoping to drum up grounds for impeachment.
Meanwhile, President Obama is not suffering from the surreal efforts of Republicans to pin their fictional “worse than Watergate” cover up on him. In fact, his approval rating gained three points to a now 58% approval since the election. However, “Americans’ opinions of the Republican Party remain more negative than positive, with 43% having a favorable and 50% an unfavorable view of the GOP.”
Welcome to reality boys. We hope you might stay a while this time.

Politics is so frustrating. These guys are clowns. They’ve been clowns for as long as I’ve been paying attention. How in the name of all that’s holy do they keep getting elected?
They’re dumber than a pack of baying dogs.
Just remember where this all started. It started with Romney trying to make this into a scandal. Then that didn’t work. So, he sorta dropped it.
Then these fools started in on the same thing with the same accusations.
After Romney had tried it and looked like a jerk for taking his shot.
It didn’t work the first time. Why would anyone think it would work the second time around when the facts are even clearer?
Send in the clowns. Oh, never mind they’re here…
My apologies to Judy Collins.

As I understand it, Mitt was given an intelligence briefing (same one sent to members of Congress) after which he was smart enough to shut the f*** up. It is a wonder he didn’t blab about the briefing like he did when MI-6 briefed him.

They keep getting elected for several reasons.
1. People are stupid and cling to old beliefs despite facts to the contrary.
2. People don’t pay attention!
3. The GOP wraps itself in the flag and validates their supporter’s petty hatreds and misconceptions.

Republicans should have learned the first time… You need to BE QUIET, and learn the FACTS. Now they have not only egg on their faces after Gen. Petreaus has testified that Ms. Rice was correct on the talking points because that was the info that she was given, but if they keep at it, the republican party will sink even lower in public opinion, and McCain and other GOP members will really have to look over their shoulders at what will be coming for them in 2014……..

Economy or foreign affair, doesn’t matter. At the end of the day we are burying 4 Americans that were left to die unsupported in any way. I know there are those that will bash and crash the party, but as a former Marine I would die for an American, even if I hated you, that’s what separates us from you. If you defend an excuse of why they were not helped, you to deserve a bullet in the head.

Actually you are full of it. What did you say when 38 people died in Embassy attacks under Bush? Nothing separates us from you except that by your last sentence, you hate Americans.
Sorry, your crap doesnt work here

Scott,
Perhaps your attacks would be better served if you directed them toward the US HOUSE who REFUSED to fund the security. Tweet to @jasoninthehouse and @DarrellIssa, WitchHunter and ask Chaffetz and Issa, the imbeciles, what their “priorities” actually are since they are the henchminions yelling after admitting that YES, we voted NO to more security.

And that’s what the Marines and the Libyans inside the Consulate were doing that night: trying to save Americans. The Marines spent almost 7 hours fighting to protect everyone and then succumbed. :(

Ok, lifetime liberal democrat here. But even I have to wonder. Why bother with BS talking points that you know to be untrue. Why did Rice knowingly tell fibs instead of just saying that the investigation was incomplete, that some of the information was still classified and that there would be more information forthcoming? Is this really the person Obama wants to replace Clinton with? Really?

What fibs did Rice tell? She only told what the CIA had cleared for her to say

Yes, I can’t understand all this fuss. I recall the interview she gave immediately after the events in Benghazi and it contained phrases to the effect of “for all we know at this point..” Most fair-minded and intelligent people could have gathered that all the facts were not in. It is standard practice to revise statements as an investigation proceeds.
Besides, all this Republican nonsense is very destructive to the information-gathering, the public’s right to know should be weighed against an ongoing investigation- and respect for the families of the victims. If Rice had revealed every detail of what she or the CIA knew, the actual attackers would have been also informed. Then we would be seeing a new investigation about how the dastardly Obama minions bungled the hunt for the perpetrators.
None of this is productive and is extremely hypocritical. As sanctimonious as the Republicans have pretended to be about this tragedy, it’s clear that within hours of the incident, they were ready to exploit any and every aspect. During the campaign, it was pathetic but predictable. Now, to carry on with this sham is a disgrace for the GOP and for the nation as whole.

She did say it was incomplete for God’s sake. It’s been in every paper this side of China.

To get the timeline of future craziness down:
A few who didn’t get the new talking points, or hope the ones they are talking to didn’t, will continue to chant ‘Benghazi, Benghazi…etc’
A few will try to propose various conspiracy theories, including my favorite, Petraeus was blackmailed (which given the testimony came AFTER he outed HIMSELF on the affair and resigned, is a good one).
Eventually, not a ONE will apologize or admit fault, but will drop it and hope we all will forget, and find something new to get hysterically wrong.

All repubs do is whallow in negative engergy. They are so hate bring down Obama consumed that they are blind to not only the facts, but reality too. They seem to have missed that their power has peaked. They run the House because of gerrymandered safe districts. (We all know folks didn’t vote in 2010). They have too much power for how little support they have. We must make sure to work on GOTV for the 2014 midterms.

They are sickening in their self-righteous indignation, as if there haven’t been far worse tragedies on the watch of Republican presidents such as the Lebanon debacle of 1983 during Reagan’s rein (200+ American soldiers killed)or the 3,000 lives lost on 911 among other tragedies. This is not about measuring the number of lives lost, but only to underscore their breathtaking hypocrisy in trying to discredit President Obama. I am glad that facts are coming out to dispute their twisted conspiracy theories. Their hatred of this president overrides any decency or common sense they might ever have possessed.

Wait up, here, don’t you get it? If we don’t appoint a special commission on this, John McCain is going to have to chair the Committee on Indian Affairs next year. What could John McCain possibly know about American Indian Affairs? He’s from Arizona, for crying out loud! Where are your priorities? John-boy is WAY above THAT shit job.
