Another One Bites the Dust: Inaccurate Rape Beliefs Take Another Republican Down
With Republican Party registration at a low of 29% in California, the California Republican Assembly narrowly voted out their President, Celeste Greig, after her Akin-esque comment that pregnancies from rape are rare.
Mercury News reported that Greig’s opponent’s campaign manager is a guy named Aaron Park. Aaron is also a conservative blogger at RightOnDaily.com, where he opined before the election, “If for some strange reason Celeste Greig gets re-elected, the future of the CRA is in extreme peril because no one running for office will want a CRA endorsement.”
His comments suggest that the CRA voted Greig out because her claim that the percentage of pregnancies from rape is small would have rendered the group impotent in California elections, as Reubicans would not want their endorsement. Even knowing that, she was voted out by a slim margin of 84-78 over the past weekend.
I pointed out when Greig first stumbled over her wildly inaccurate rape comments in early March of this year that she also admitted that she did not know the actual numbers. This didn’t stop her belief:
Ronald Reagan called the California Republican Assembly “the conscience of the Republican Party”. The President of that conscience, Celeste Greig, told Mercury News that the percentage of pregnancies by rape is small, “Granted, the percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it’s an act of violence, because the body is traumatized. I don’t know what percentage of pregnancies are due to the violence of rape.”
Studies have shown time and time again that a the science behind pregnancy does not discriminate when it sees a rapist coming, nor does the “violence” of rape shut down the female body. Women get pregnant from rape. In some states, the rapist is granted parental rights over the child resulting from their criminal act.
The California Republican Assembly doesn’t believe in federal taxes, believes in “traditional families”, the “preborn” and national defense. Apparently they don’t believe in science, medicine, facts or numbers either. They don’t care about women being raped, obviously. But they do believe in having power. And that is what led to a narrow outing of the rape pregnancy denier who was foolish enough to say on the record what the majority of conservatives believe in secret.
This dust up serves to reveal the problem for the Republican Party as it caters to the pre-born movement. If you really believe that all feti have the same rights as living humans (or, as they suggest, more rights than living women), and that as soon as the sperm hits the egg, that organism is a person, then there is no situation in which that organism should not take precedence over the living host (aka, woman). This means that you stand for forcing women who are raped (and their husbands and families) to deal with an unwanted pregnancy resulting from that rape.
That position is not popular, so it can’t be revealed to the public. But it is the obvious conclusion based on the entire premise of their argument. When the entire premise of their argument is unwittingly unmasked to the public, Republicans do their best to hide the person who said the words, instead of addressing the real problem of the inherent flaw in their ideology.

I’m sure that if she ‘offended anyone’ with her words, she is sorry she offended them. Isn’t that the GOP party line? Never sorry for what they said (and meant.)

They’re sorry they got caught saying that thing they shouldn’t have said but said it anyway because they actually believe it.
Standard fright wing non-apology apology.

Here’s what I think. Since all women have eggs from the day they are born and have absolutely no control over what those eggs do or when they do it and since all pregnancies are the direct result of sperm (which is completely controllable by the man on whether it leaves the body or not) that all future pregnancy related legislation should only apply to men. Makes more sense than the crap they are trying to pass now.

It’s bad enough when a man makes comments like this, but absolutely mind-blowing when a woman does!

Greig should have been ashamed of herself, but she wasn’t. One can only surmise that she’s willing to oppress other women as long as she remains a high- muck-a-muck in the GOP. This means she is completely devoid of any redeeming principles. If she has daughters, I feel sorry for them.

The comment that rapists are granted parental rights is a bit misleading. These are usually statutory rape cases where both parents are young but the girl is under age.

“Granted, the percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it’s an act of violence, because the body is traumatized. I don’t know what percentage of pregnancies are due to the violence of rape.”
She asserts that the percentage of rapes from pregnancy is small. Then goes on to say she doesn’t know what percentage of pregnancies result from rape…What a dumb hypocrite she is.

They’re trying to go stealth.
These people will never change. They’re so far gone down the rabbit hole they’ve come out the other side of the galaxy. There is no retrieving them.
