Boehner And Cantor Wreck The Economy Then Cut And Run On Town Halls
After pushing the American economy toward the brink of collapse, John Boehner and Eric Cantor are refusing to hold town hall meetings.
According to the list compiled by No Labels.org, the top three Republicans in the House, Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy will not be holding town halls during the current recess. Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling, and Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price will.
On the Democratic side, the top two Democrats, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer will not be holding town halls, but Asst. Democratic Leader Jim Cyburn is. Half of the House Republicans are not holding town halls and those who are have taken some extreme measures like banning constituents’ cameras and filming and charging admission to keep their constituents out.
Boehner and Cantor have led the attack on everything from the killing of Medicare to refusing to raise taxes on the wealthy, and they are now trying to avoid being held accountable for their actions. Boehner and Cantor don’t want to hear from the people, because they haven’t been serving the people. They have been spitting in the eye of popular opinion while protecting the interests of those who have the most at the expense of those who have the least.
The House GOP’s two headed monster has caused an American downgrade, but are unwilling to take responsibility for their actions. Yes, progressive heroes like Keith Ellison and Dennis Kucinich are also not holding town halls, but they are also not setting the agenda in the House. It was not Nancy Pelosi who refused to raise the debt ceiling in order to create a crisis that could be used to extort America with.
All members of the House should hold town halls, but due to the strict majority rules nature of the body, the party in control of the House has a greater responsibility to the American people. The House majority completely controls the entire process, and that blame for unpopular popular actions falls only on their shoulders.
John Boehner and Eric Cantor may be able to cut and run in 2011, but their fellow House Republicans won’t be so lucky when voters head to the polls in 2012.

Does anyone remember the stink Michelle Malkin and Republican ideologues raised back in 2009 when Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL) charged $25.00 for a town hall/breakfast for her constituents? There was a lot of talk about her not being available or Democrats in general being scared to confront constituents over the health care debate. (URL: michellemalkin.com/2009/0...)
Where are the pundits and Republican ideologues now? Do they still believe that members of Congress should be allowed to hide from their constituents or charge admission?
Some of the comments:
“Are you freaking kidding me? Why do people have to pay a fee just to visit their representative? This is ridiculous.
Yeah, lets make money off of a townhall that should be FREE. Another new low for a public servant.”
“Seriously, can a rep charge an entrance fee and still call it a “townhall?” I mean when there’s a fee involved, isn’t it a fund raiser/charity event and under the jurisdiction of campaign finance and IRS limitations?”
“if things were as they should be she should be paying the her constituents for NOT doing the job they elected her to do…you know represent the will of the people who elected her….recall the woman and show her the unemployment line!!! somebody should send this one to Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity…this needs national attention!!!”
Where is the faux outrage now from the Republican side?

I’ve noticed all these years. I don’t care if they are suffering as a result of their GOP PARTY LEADERS–which they have been for 30 years! They will never ever complain against THEIR GOP publicly, openly, in any way shape or form. That would be admitting that they know their leaders ARE NOT LEADERS AND VERY STUPID AND VERY GREEDY AND THAT THEIR LEADERS DON’T GIVE A SHT ABOUT THEM. They tell their people every day we MUST PROTECT THE CORPS. And they cheer. There is no help for these incredibly ignorant people. Look at them cheer perry on. Who does that knowing what he’s done SO MUCH DAMAGE in Texas? They love him. The dumber the more they admire. My own son in law said he would NEVER EVER go back to texas.

Low-Life cowards, both of them!!! I too was born in Texas and I use to be proud of my State before the Repugs took over. It is in sad shape nowdays. I haven’t been back there in over 15 years since I escaped from the Repug State called Texas and I am in no hurray to even go for a visit to see family and friends. That’s how much I abhor the Repugs who have messed up the state. For a long time people use to say as a motto “don’t mess with Texas”. Too bad the people didn’t get or didn’t care how evil and foul the Repugs were. Did Rick Perry’s praying to God to bring rain to Texas work….? I didn’ think so…LOL

These men are the worst kind of cowards. They have operated against the United States of America. And because President Obama asked the people to speak to their representatives and let their voices be heard, they have turned their backs on their constituents. Is this even legal? The ignorant and the ideologues will not speak out but the rest of us need to SCREAM! This post should go viral!

Is this the same Kevin McCarthy who ran around shouting that we were being taken over by alien look-alikes? I wish we had listened to him, cause look at him now! He’s obviously been replaced, because he ain’t saying a damn thing thing against our alien overlords!
Oh. Wait. I’m confused. I was thinking of that movie from the 1950s.
Or am I? >SCREEEEEEEEE<

I live in Cantor’s district. He never holds town halls. He sometimes holds “jobs fairs” where invited people can assemble and toss him softball questions.

boehner & cantor consider having fundraisers with their benefactors their town halls. that’s where they can listen to their donors problems & tell them what they will do for them for their donations. when cantor & boehner say that they’re listening to the american people that’s who they referring to. it’s a pity that their real constituents don’t fall into that category.

I could be wrong…but didn’t Boehner…when creating the working schedule in the House…create it with the idea that House Members could go back home on a regular basis to speak with their constituants via Town Halls? Now most are either not having them or hosting pay per view events that only invite friendly people who will not make any waves…like ask questions they will have to answer to. Sorry folks…if you run for office you need to be available to answer questions…even those you might not like to answer. And I would go a step further. I would like to see investigations with Daniel Webster of FL. and Tim Griffin in Ark.to see if they are using tax payer money to create their own “watch list”…these are lists that contain the names of constituants that ask difficult questions during town hall meetings. So, when the next town hall meeting occurs they are not invited in or at the very least not allowed to ask a question. Are we heading back to a time where people who are not friendly to a particular group be put on a “black list”?
