The Boston Globe Endorses President Obama Over Their Former Gov Romney
By: Sarah JonesOct. 29th, 2012more from Sarah Jones
After the Salt Lake Tribune endorsed Obama, Romney must have been relieved when his other home state paper the Detroit News endorsed him. But today, the real blow comes from Massachusetts, where he was Governor. The Boston Globe has endorsed President Obama.
The Globe writes of many reasons to reelect Obama, saying that not only would a second term be a mandate against the Republican obstructionism, but it would curb the power of special interests:
“Obama’s reelection would also curb the growing power of special interests, who so often hide their self-serving agendas behind a facade of fist-in-the-air patriotism and promises of low taxes. Anyone who lived through the crash of 2008, and now sees Republicans in Congress seeking to thwart the Dodd-Frank law’s protections, should sense the true impetus behind all the pronouncements about unleashing the job creators. The Supreme Court’s wrongheaded Citizens United decision, granting corporations unlimited power to influence campaigns, provided yet another weapon for the powerful to deploy against the general interest.”
The Globe praises Obama’s diligence and bipartisanship, and calls out the Republican meme that it’s Obama who is divisive, “He stands between the divides in American society, so some say he must therefore be the source of division. But as president, Obama has reached out repeatedly to Republicans and shied away from the I’m-the-decider pronouncements of his predecessor. He’s been diligent and responsible — to a fault.”
Reminding us where we were and what we avoided under Obama’s leadership (with a few painful reminders of the “chaos” of the Bush years), they write, “As Obama was taking the oath on Jan. 20, 2009, the economy was losing a whopping 818,000 jobs in that month alone, with almost as many to follow in each of the next two months. Soon, Obama’s $787 billion stimulus package stopped the hemorrhage, and the still-bruised labor market has added jobs fitfully ever since.”
The Globe makes more of a case for Obama than a case against Romney, though they seem as confused as most as to which Romney is running for President and this is a danger for a president, “Identifying the real Romney on any major issue — social, economic, or foreign — is impossible. But a president this vulnerable within his party, needing to satisfy a conservative Congress, could never make good on his moderate commitments. Whichever Romney shows up, the Romney years would end up looking a lot like the Bush years.”
Those are scary words. The Globe harkened back to the chaos of Bush in a way that freshly reminded me of what a different style of leadership we have in Obama. We don’t lurch from crisis to crisis having to give Obama the benefit of the doubt when he wasn’t around. Obama canceled his campaign plans as Sandy was heading our way, and he’s been quietly there, working, planning, organizing, calling governors — he’s been there. Obama is a soothing presence, not only because he’s working steadily and he never makes erratic sudden moves, but because we can count on him to never be small or petty. He is always just putting Americans first, as even Governor Chris Christie acknowledged yesterday.
The Boston Globe is the paper that knows Romney’s elected leadership style best. The Salt Lake Tribune would be second in knowing Romney’s leadership style. It would be natural for both papers to have a loyalty to home stater Romney, but both papers went for President Obama.

From everything I’ve seen and read about Mit Romney, he only cares about Mit Romney. Like a kid who is so spoiled, he causes havoc where ever he goes if he doesn’t get his way. Privilege! He is a bully. He works people and knows who to butter-up to get his way. We’ve all known someone like this and shun them. He is not a team player. His team is Mit, Ann, the 5 boys and the LDS Church. Do we want someone who will lie for Jesus sitting in the oval office? Does anyone remember the picture of Sarah Palin walking away from her quitting speech? The smug look on her face? “Nailed it!” They believed it..I’m quitting to make money and fame. Mit and company have that same look when they walk off the stage! “Nailed it! Those idiots believe me.” Paul Ryan is about as idiotic as Bristol Palin flopping around on the stage who hasn’t the slightest idea what she is doing. No talent..just smiling, and complaining about the haters. Neither knowing what they are doing. We need someone who can see the whole picture, and can deliver for the country. Not someone who is on a “mission” for his church! That is not serving your country! A community organizer is preparing to help others and cares for the people, not himself. He is passionate about others and making life better…not a hand out…a hand up.
Do you want someone in office who wants to destroy FEMA and Planned Parenthood leading your country? Nothing says leadership like pulling the rug out from under people in time of national and personal crisis. I have already voted for the person who cares for this country. The one who is working to get this country going forwards, not backwards. The one who is delivery for us and the world! Please vote with a good conscious.

Many republicans will fail to recognize the significance of the Globe’s endorsement of PBO, or they’ll pretend it doesn’t mean a thing. If Romney was such a great governor in MA, it would stand to reason that he would have earned the Globe’s endorsement. It would also stand to reason that he would be leading in the polls, and that he’d spend some time campaigning in the state, especially since he made it quite obvious that Scott Brown is one senator he would depend upon to carry out his agenda should he become President #45. He’s what is known as a favorite son in MA, and typically, favorite sons win the endorsements of their states’ major newspapers. That the Globe didn’t endorse him should make all Americans think about taking a close look at his gubernatorial record before voting for him.

Something to remember about Mitt: he is afraid to run on his record as governor of Mass.

I live in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Mitt Romney is well known to us. On behalf of my state, that continues to recover from his governorship, from the residents of my state who continue to recover and for the great many residents who actually moved away from here because of him, I urge you to reconsider any thought of voting for Mitt Romney. You may not think Mr. Obama is a good choice, but in this election, he is the only choice. It is my personal opinion that Mr. Obama deserves another 4 years, but nothing good will come if Mitt Romney is elected President. Any Massachusetts resident can tell you that and many of the politicians as well. As you see, even the Boston Globe won’t endorse him.

The Boston Globe’s decision not to endorse Willard is indicative of the bad taste he left in the mouths of so many residents of Massachusetts due to his poor stewardship. If he was so ineffective at running just one state out of all 50, so that it ranked 47th out of all 50 in job creation, why would anyone in his/her right mind think he could run a 50-state country from a position with infinitely more responsibilities than a governor has? In addition to not endorsing Willard, I am glad that the Boston Globe gave positive reasons for re-electing our president.

These are the same people who thought someone [Sarah Palin] who couldn’t hack running a state with 670,000 persons for a full term was qualified to run a nation of 310 million.
And no, they aren’t in their right mind.

When he brought up the story about all his boys lying to him was telling to me. Most boys emulate their dads. I am sure Mitt got his bully attitude from George brainwashed Romney. An what does it tell about who taught those five idiots to lie every breath? Just look at Mitt’s clips since 1994 and you will learn who exactly taught them to lie vociferously.

This isn’t surprising as the Globe leans Democratic, not that I’m complaining. As an MA resident I actually would have been surprised if they endorsed Romney, who was really only Governor for effectively half a term before turning to a presidential run.

Surplus to 1400B Deficit
Added 9000B to 1000B Debt
Created 99,00 jobs per month to Carter + Clinton 22,000
Initiated our involvemet in 10 foreign conflicts
Carter + Clinton=0
Great Recession
Smashed Housing Industry
Turned Wall Street into Gambling Casino instead of Investment in businesses and jobs
Flushed money to top10%
Outsourced our industries
closed 58,000 plants in ten years
