Bryan Fischer, Kicked off CNN for Lying, Reacts like Childish Buffoon
more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson
You knew this already: Bryan Fischer, Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association (AFA), likes to throw tantrums. And those of us who are liberals know that CNN is no liberal organ. But to Bryan Fischer, CNN is “what the gay Gestapo looks like in action.”
Why? Because earlier this week, CNN anchor Carol Costello, tiring of Fischer’s lying, bigoted spew, tossed him off her show.
Fischer was in the middle of a rant about the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Mix It Up at Lunch Day” program, which is all about teaching tolerance and which has the entire religious right in such a lather.
Rather than making friends, aberrochristians think it is better for children to bully their fellow students and ostracize them for being different in the name of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Fischer claims anything coming from the Southern Poverty Law Center is “toxic” to their children’s’ “moral health.”
Watch courtesy of Right Wing Watch:
What happened on CNN is what happens when right wing religious extremism accidentally comes in contact with the mainstream media, which does its level best to avoid this sort of stuff. I mean, you have to wonder what CNN was thinking.
Watch what happens when Carol Costello read back to Fischer what he had previously said about gays and Nazism. Reaching the end of the tirade, Costello told the Bigot King, “That smells like agenda to me.” As Fischer continued his rant, Costello tried to talk to him about hate speech. Fischer claimed that the Southern Poverty is out to destroy the AFA and the FRC and that therefore they’re the bullies.
Cosello finally had had enough when Fischer turned to the usual lies about homosexuality and health, and said, “That’s just not true.” She announced that since it is not true, she was ending the interview. “Thanks for sharing your views, I guess,” she said, before turning out the lights on Fischer’s spew.
Watch courtesy of Right Wing Watch:
That was Tuesday. On Thursday he went off on what Kyle Mantyle at Right Wing Watch called “an epic rant,” saying that “Costello’s refusal to allow him to spew his bigotry unchallenged on national television is exactly what ‘the gay gestapo looks like in action.’”
Fischer made multiple references to the “gay gestapo,” proclaiming that “the stormtroopers of the homosexual movement” and “the Nazis in the gay gestapo” will punish anyone who says that “homosexuality is immoral, it is unnatural, and it is unhealthy – that is a simple, straightforward statement of fact” because “it is a crime of blasphemy against the god of gayness.”

Like I said, it’s hard to imagine what CNN thought they’d get when they invited Fischer on the air. They either have not been paying attention or they thought he’d suffer an attack of Romnesia. Or perhaps, what happened was exactly what they wanted to happen. Whatever the reasoning, Fischer responded in the same way he sees his God responding, with childlike fury over gratification denied.
It isn’t often someone like Fischer is brought so brazenly into the public eye by the mainstream media. We have watched the extremism displayed at Rick Perry’s The Response go by without a mention (except by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. There have been numerous other examples of the mainstream media shying away from right wing extremism, which is what makes groups like Right Wing Watch and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) so important.
Fischer misjudged his audience. He thought he’d get a free commercial spot to run his shtick by the American people but he ran into an interviewer who had a bigger set than Jim Lehrer, and you can bet it didn’t sit well with the bigoted Fischer that his on-air executioner was a woman.
Seemingly, by accident, the mainstream media gave their viewers a glimpse of what really drives the Republican agenda. It’s crackpot buffoons like Bryan Fischer who speak for the base, the base that this election year, got a dream platform more extreme than any seen since the National Socialist era. This, America, is your Republican Party. Weep in shame.

Why even give these haters a platform to spew their filth?
They belong on Faux Noise where their believers are. I don’t see that these kinds of ideas will ever go mainstream as most Americans are too intelligent and knowledgable to support them. Leave them where they belong, there’s no reasoning with these people, they have gone mental and are intent on destroying the values of America by division, racism, bigotry and hate by attaching Jesus Christ’s name to their evil propaganda.
They will get their just deserts in due course.

I don’t know – maybe Romney has caused me to raise the bar when I see things like this. CNN knew Fischer’s position very well BEFORE they aired him. Could it be that CNN used this idiot to boost their own ratings vs Clear Channel and Fox? IS CNN using this issue to pull in more viewers who can’t stand Fox’s ultraconservative views and have an equally hard time with MSNBC’s ultraliberal views?
I didn’t used to be so skeptical before this election.

Exactly what religion is not supposed to be. But then again Bryan Fischer is not about religion is he.

No he’s not, Shiva. However as a fellow atheist, I recall you not being the greatest fan of organized religion in general.

This man-child is nothing more than a “re-born christian” with horrific birth defects like intolerance, racism, and hatred. Keep him off the air please!

What took her so long? Can’t CNN see that even having people like that on the air damages their brand? He gets plenty of airtime on Clear Channel and Fox News, does CNN have to stoop so long?
Anyway, good on you, Carol.

Poor guy. I’m sure the women in his life are subsevient and obediaent…or else. Good for Carol. Between her and Soledad, I wonder if there are any men outside of MSNBC who have the sense God gave them at birth. They sit there are nod and say “thanks” and never call out anyone. And yet, the rigth gets away with their ‘liberal media’ lies day after day. Fisher is a class A jerk. He represents the people who would support the KKK if they could do it openly. He is not a Chrsitian, not a moral man, and certainly not a patriot.

The KKK is dominant in many areas, and people support them in secret. I think to would be better stated that they’d support the KKK openly if they could – that would include a lot of people in this county and in many others.

So, the mainstream media has had enough of Fisher the “Phisher” and cut his mic…finally!
I agree that this may have been a preconceived notion to set an example of one of “them” (radical fundamentalist extremist) allowing the network(s) to quash a number of future interviews with people on SPL’s Hatewatch List. Hopefully, they are drawing a line in the sand, not stifling free speech…then again, a free society cannot “breathe” or function properly when oppressive hate mongers, like AFA via Fisher, terrorize and bully those who won’t convert to their way of thinking.
Fisher/AFA are dangerous, theocratic enemies of open democratic societies, such as ours. We need more people who “own” the mic to shut them down by exposing their “conspiracies” and their intent.

One of my favorite sayings: “Freedom of Speech does not preclude you from Freedom of Consequences”. I think this man believes he is above consequences from what he says. Not so and this is a good example. Kudos to Ms. Costello.

As has been pointed out by academics and others…the more phobic about homosexuality…the more in the closet you are. After all of his rantings…wonder what he’ll say being caught with his gay lover?

I’m not so sure about that… I used to be terrified of homosexuals, because I’d been taught that their goal was making having sex with them mandatory and even outlawing straight relationships. The Assemblies even were passing around an ersatz “Gay Rights Magazine” which said so. (Now I know it was all lies – and found out my best friend is gay as are many of my other friends). They also taught that all gays and lesbians are purely hedonistic and that (along with all other groups they hate) untrustworthy and backstabbing – another lie.
As for me, I’m not in the least interested in men… women only.
I’ve also been faithfully married to my wife (who is in a sense even more a best friend than my “best friend”) for almost 29 years. I lost the fear of LGBT people only around 8 years ago – after which I learned the truth about several of my friends.

Fischer and the entire XtianHypocrites need to stay over at Faux Noise. Calling CNN “liberal” is hilarious. Last night I was visiting someone and they had Erin Burnett on in the other room. Just listening to Erin, she actually belongs over at Faux Noise, she is as RWNJ MittBot as they come. CNN is lucky to keep Soledad and Costello – they would do well to employ more honest brokers for their so-called news programs.

They are all like school yard bullies who prey on the ignorance and racism of the faux cult members.Throughout this election We have seen and heard the haters plan for this country. I do not understand how anyone but the racist haters and 1% could vote for the scum.

How much do you want to bet this guy has participated in sexual behavior with a man?
I won’t even insult the gay community by suggesting that he’s gay himself – when someone has this level of hate and hostility towards someone else – regardless of the reason – it’s because they’re reacting from within their own thoughts and conflicted behaviors – they’re unable to resolve their own stuff so they attack others that remind them too much of their own crap.
Way too much projection there – @@shole. This is very common with republicans and the right wing fringe lunatics – hypocritical attacks to hide the truth about themselves.

I can just imagine what it would be like if a lot more hate-filled liars like Fischer were kicked off programs when they started spewing their garbage. If that had happened to Willard from Day One, there is NO way his campaign would have gotten off the ground, much less given him a chance of winning the presidency.

Their “Gay Gestapo”… I know some of those people. I also see the pain in their eyes as they talk about the abuse and hate they’ve received. I see the fear (if not terror) as they relate what they or another LGBT person has experienced at the hands of the “Good Christians”… like being “Burned Out” for being LGBT, or being shot at, or (the usual) receive death threats. Friends of mine were forced to flee this county… even abandoning treasured items, because of the rabid “Good Christians” found here and elsewhere. These people are rightfully terrified of Romney and the Repugnants.
They also are determined to have their privacy and rights left intact… that’s all they want – to be left alone and the right to choose their own path. Their resistance to the Goddamned “Good Christians” is why they get labeled “gestapo” and so on… because they won’t submit to the abuse anymore.
The sad fact is that a lot more people in this area don’t realize that they should be as terrified of a Repugnant takeover as the LGBT community (and the atheist community and the pagan and the…) already are. They don’t see that they will be targeted next… because they don’t go to the right church, or because they aren’t rich, or for some other reason.
(The thought struck me that we’re dealing with a battle of inclusiveness vs exclusiveness – in other words, of Good vs Evil.)

Bryan Pharisee Fischer, if you’re out there listening: you sir, call down the wrath of your own vengeful God upon yourself with every hateful lie you and your American Family Association preach.
THIS is how an honest Christian acts: “Preacher gives interesting gay rights speech”

We have been sent to love not judge. God has said venengence is mine. Judge ye not lest ye be judge.
You don’t have to like the way a person has choosen to lead their lives, but you don’t encourage those to hate. You don’t like it don’t surround yourself with it.
I have Gay friends and family members and I Love them all. It is my job to love not judge and I will not teach my 8yr old daughter to hate someone because they are Gay. My 23yr old son is a youth ministry major and he will be the first one to tell you while you don’t condone a life style, you are still charged to love.
