Mitt Romney’s Class Warfare Makes Americans Sick to Their Stomachs
By: Sarah JonesSep. 18th, 2012more from Sarah Jones
It is a sad day for Mitt Romney when reactions his own words write the ads for Obama for America. So, OFA took to the streets to share Mitt Romney’s private fundraiser behind-closed-doors 47 percent comments with a few Americans and as you can imagine, the response was not good.
One woman shares, “I don’t think anybody’s ever looking for a handout. I think that..we all want are chances and opportunities.” Watch the confused looks on their faces as they listen to Romney’s contempt for half of America:
Reactions:
“I actually felt sick to my stomach.”
“It shows that he’s out of touch that if he thinks that half of the country is feeling like victims.”
“Victims? I wouldn’t say so. I don’t think that’s part of the American fabric.”
In case you’ve been cut off from society for the last 24 hours, here’s a recap of how Mitt Romney sees America: He told his audience of wealthy donors who were paying $50,000 for a plate that Obama supporters “believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing.” He also doubled down on the Fox lie that 47% of Americans don’t pay taxes, never realizing that the majority of folks who don’t pay taxes are his base, saying he won’t bother with the “47 percent who are with him (Obama), who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing,”
It turns out that Americans don’t see themselves as victims, and they believe that living in this land of the free and brave, they are entitled to eat and they prefer if other Americans, including our Grandparents, our troops, and our college students can eat as well. Huh.
The Right likes to refer to the liberal “moocher” “parasites”, but of course, this is not accurate. The moochers, it turns out, are in the red states, and often the white poor (who vote Republican). Additionally, a large percentage of those who don’t pay taxes do so because they are retired (more Romney base). But these facts are irrelevant, because no matter their party affiliation, liberals believe that everyone in this country should have a safety net that provides for starving children and takes care of our grandparents and our veterans. We believe that Americans like hard work, and that most people are not lazy parasites.
Liberals see the world through a prism of personal responsibility buttressed with a strong social safety net for hard times. It worked for Mitt Romney’s father, and it works for many Americans.
Romney has left ideology at the shores of his bitter pandering, and he’s doubled down on the Randian cruelty evinced in his Vice Presidential pick, who ironically also benefited from government largesse. In actuality, Mitt Romney’s parents and Paul Ryan himself make the argument for how effective our social safety net is, and how it strengthens America.
Mitt Romney is waging a despicable class war. The fact that he holds half of America in contempt should automatically disqualify him from the office he seeks.
It appears as if that feeling is mutual now. Mitt Romney makes good Americans sick to their stomach.

In all seriousness, Get Out The Vote – contact your Organizing For America office and see what you can do to help. If everyone who CAN vote doesn’t vote, the R’s will steal this election. Do NOT think that because everyone knows that Bishop Romney is wrong for the job that they won’t pack the voting booths with a bunch of rubes come Nov. 6th.

That *certain smile* over the conveniently timed murder of American military and diplomatic personnel was already bad enough. This hideous scorn towards at least half of the country he claims as his is, as the Russian saying goes, the sour cream on the turd. If he wins the election now, it can only be through the kind of criminal skullduggery that puts 2000 in the shade.
Let sound bites be broadcast everywhere, and in videos, let that *certain smile* be superimposed on them.

Romney has a lot of nerve accusing people of wanting handouts…
This from a guy who has been expecting and receiving handouts from the day he was born.
His Daddy must be really ashamed of his son Willard…
Who has nothing in common with even his own Daddy.
Tax Returns please, Mitt. 10 years of complete Tax Returns.

How many people do you know who could afford to pay $50,000 a plate to hear this twit speak, or would even want to? He is completely out of touch with regular people. If he thinks middle class is making $200,000 to $250,000 a year, how much do they pay their household help? He is an unMITigated disaster.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47% of them who are dependent upon government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, you-name-it and the government should give it to them. These are people who pay no income tax.” That was Mitt Romney swan song bye bye election. He attacked 50% of those who are working poor and pay full payroll tax. He did not mention his thousands of rich pals who pay no income tax and who pay 1% or less in payroll tax. He did not mention corporations like Verizon with 6 Billion income in 2011 and paid no tax. Or GE over 5 years paid 2.3% on profit of 81 Billion. Or that we rank ahead of only Chile and Mexico As Least taxed in Oecd nations. Or that 1% pay 28% of total income in Federal-State-Local taxes as a percent of gdp and middle class pay 27%. MITT IS GONE. A RICH NUT.

True, most people aren’t looking for handouts. The “47%” quoted by Romney was definitely too high. He was referring to the fact that millions of people are dependent on government handouts, and most of them will vote to get MORE HANDOUTS — this includes Republican farmers. There are always a few people who will vote on principle, on what is good for the country…but the basic truth is most people act in their own self-interest. And if you are the beneficiary of any government program, you will want to preserve (and even increase) that program.
This unfairness needs to stop. We need to simplify the tax program, say, with a 15% Flat Tax that applies to everyone, no exceptions. We are dangerously close to the point where the poorest 51% will vote to take everything from the richer 49%. When we reach that point, the country will be firmly set on the path to destruction. We need to get the government completely out of the charity business, and let private organizations handle it. The government needs to return to its rightful role as protector of our Rights, not our nanny who feeds, educates, and clothes us. I hope people will realize that freedom is more important than free stuff.

The biggest share of those not paying taxes are people who dont make a lot, and have children. They get money back on their taxes. They work and they dont cheat. Dont get caught up in the Fox News lie about people not paying taxes.

Another damned flat tax nut.
Get this… the “Flat tax” is another scam to enrich the wealthy at your expense.
A progressive tax is the only one that is fair and that works.
If your Gary Johnson is a “Flat taxer”, then he’s just another conservative scam artist, like the Pauls.

Sarah, there is one thing I’d add to your list of liberal characteristics.
Liberals know and understand that some people HAVE been victimized, and that discrimination and persecution do exist.
What would you call all the laws against women? The difference in incomes?
What about the women who were forced into marriages and never had a chance to have their own life? Women whose lives were cut short because of anti-abortion laws?
The fact is, we should all recognize that the system has been unfair and unequal since the beginning, and strive to make it more fair and equal. That is one of the essences of liberalism.
